UPDATE- Wow that was quick, but Aaron has seen everyone's messages and confirmed he's looking through his archive for The Wire! He hasn't watched it in over 20 years, so it might take some time to find. Also, since some people were asking for invites to the discord servers, Captain B Zarre's is here- discord.gg/G2PM7gn , and the Lost Media Wiki one can be found on the homepage of the site.

Toonheads was a compilation show with trivia. Only one Toonheads episode in full has ever been officially released. But a good chunk of the shorts within them have seen release in other collections. Someone in the nerdier LT area could probably give an adequate count of how many aren't.

Pinwheel honestly deserves a documentary. Not like a youtube documentary like Blameitonjorge's video. I mean a full story about how most of the show was not legally owned by the 2 creators and how the series can legally never be released. They should call it, "Pinwheel: The legally unreleased children's series."

I never knew Pinwheel was a cartoon series. I always thought that was the name Nickelodeon had as a channel in their early days like late 70’s and early to mid 80’s. That being said, the whole “Toonheads” series seems very intriguing to me. I just found out about it because just saw the Tom and Jerry episode “A Cat Concerto” and I knew there was a rivalry between that short and the Looney Tunes short “Rhapsody Rabbit.” When I looked up more details about the controversy, I found out Toonheads did an entire episode devoted to it in 2001. I wanted to see the episode but I only found the intro to the episode. Now I know many specific episodes of Toonheads are hard to come by.

Toonheads had 2 incarnations, one that lasted anywere from 1992-1998(the dates on the episodes very wildly) and 1998-2003. The second incarnation is more well known, as most of the episodes do exist. I myself made a little hunt for the series about a year ago, but gave up because info for the first incarnation was too scarce, there are only about 2-3 episodes avalible online, and i think none of them are complete. There are promos avalible on youtube for episodes that are not seen on any episode guide online.

Nice to see someone digging up the old TTTP forums over there. That's one of the best archives still standing on some of the stuff that was going down at CN in the early 2000s. I imagine there would be better documentation if some of the old host sites still were up. That an AIM backlogs and Cartoon Orbit.
@officeroldir480
@officeroldir480 5 жыл бұрын
Toonheads in it's first form was a bit more wide in subjects than towards the end. There's a little bit of a tension that some of the "classical animation" and "television animation" fans don't like each other. Towards the end of the run they were more often trying to cater to the classical one than the other. This was because of yet another thing that changed under CN's new leadership. Kellner and Samples cared more about raking up target demographics to make the advertisers pay more money. So Toonheads final seasons were more one way directed and their older reruns that went against that target market not often seen. Then in the end in 2003 CN gave GAK a pink slip and just ended the show for good.
@pkkingcrimsonrequiem1332
@pkkingcrimsonrequiem1332 5 жыл бұрын
@@officeroldir480 Based on my research, it would appear that "GAK" is none other than George A. Klein, correct? George had a Vimeo account, and he actually posted clean, higher quality versions of the intros to some episodes. He hasn't uploaded in quite a while though, but his other uploads seem to suggest that he is (or was) still working at Turner.
@officeroldir480
@officeroldir480 4 жыл бұрын
GAK was indeed George A Klein. At the time he was a Cartoon Network person. He was very private but he was let go from his jobs at CN in 2003. He didn't even want that public, he asked Jerry Beck to take it down, which Jerry did but as Jerry said "it's still true". It's good to see though he managed to get work at other Turner networks. Because he was great at his job. If you are reading through older posts also if you see "bozo" that was Barry Mills, Producer of the Popeye Show. Multiple people from Cartoon Network used to lurk and some even posted on the Toonzone forums back then. It's where a lot of the stuff leaked out from. It's weird to see people on that site today not know some of the history that the site itself was involved with back in the day.

Man, Toonheads is something Id like to see again. I last saw it around 2000, I enjoyed it, it showed toons and trivia. learned a lot about chuck jones. Hey I got something I saw weird once. It was on cartoon network 2000 early christmas morning. I remember the tv called it "Yule Toons"... in this cartoon, the world was completely ravaged by WWII (you see soldiers fighting with gas masks) and humanity is dead. A group of sentient animals find a bible in a church, and an owl notes "Looks like its filled with a set of rules those humans didnt follow" and ended on the note that we need peace on earth, goodwill towards man. Thats all I remember about it, I just remember it was weird and it was at 3am-430am

Cartoon Network got three creator based shows off the ground then. The Tex Avery Show which focused on his work at WB and MGM. Sometimes it showed some ones not often seen in other blocks. The Bob Clampett Show which aired his WB stuff and for a real treat Beanie and Cecil licensed in from Clampett's widow. And The Chuck Jones show which mostly just aired Chuck Jones WB cartoons and eventually even aired a few Non Chuck Jones shorts for some weird reason.

I only had cable for a short period of time in the late 90s. Most of my childhood mysteries come from shareware floppy diskettes, The Box, Night Flight, and weird shit my cousin would tape for my siblings and I. An early CGI short about little spiders living inside a computer, a live action shot film about arresting a coke dealer all narrated in rhyme, and a video game featuring a balloon floating through Vincent VanGogh paintings come to mind. I realize I'm significantly older and come from a very different upbringing than most lost media hunters so I seem to be questioning the void.

Some of it obscure, entirely miscellaneous, and I'm excited at the abundance of it. Of course this is coming from a 2000s kid who's beginning to crave nostalgia, but who knows, I cleaned some up and with a VHS player, there could be things that haven't been seen in a while.

You know, the mention of the DBZ hunt reminds me, I'm pretty sure there's a lost Funimation dub of Dragon Ball Z Kai. Episode 98, "Peace for the Future! The Spirit of Goku Is Forever!" It was apparently delayed in Japan because of an earthquake, and it supposedly aired in the US on February 8, 2013, but I remember that day being a rerun of episode 1. All that we have now in terms of the dub is the preview from episode 97. Funny thing is, it's not on any streaming service I could find, nor was it part of a home relrase. There is a full description of the changes of the episode on the DBZ wikia, though I'm unsure of how they'd get that.

I would periodically try to search for it online like "Cartoon Network late night eye show" or something like that to no avail. I started thinking that I just hallucinated it until a random video I watched about lost media offhandedly mentioned it. Usually when I find stuff like that from my past it's never as cool or mysterious as I remembered it, but... nah, O'Canada is really goddamn weird. I was not disappointed.

I was kinda low-key thinking that too… I thought from seeing the thumbnail then watching this that this animation / character designs look VERY familiar - like something I saw once many years ago. I’m not really familiar with any other animations with this character design either. And there’s a far greater chance that I would’ve seen it on Boomerang than Cartoon Network.

I also recall a show on cartoon Network in the late 90s, specifically something about award winning animated shorts, one in particular featured a cgi robot cleaner, in a museum I think...

The CGI robot cartoon was one of the What a cartoon shorts. It was a rarity in daring to use CGI at the time. It was called "Strange Things". CN aired multiple versions of special compilations for award winning cartoons at various times in it's early days. Sometimes on just winners or somethings including ones that got nominated. There was a also a block on the 50th Greatest Cartoons that was one of the time CN aired some rarer shorts in the daytime.

Theres a tape i had as a kid. That was about a group of puppet animals who work in a news station? They reported on a oil spill. I dont remember much after that. I believe it was from the late 80-early 90s but i cant find anything about it. Anywhere. One noteable scene i remember is between a monkey and a racoon. In chich they were talking about the monkey being the racoons side kick. But the monkey misunderstands what "sidekick" means so he kicks him in the shin. It was hilarious to me. Which is why i remember that scene most. But if you can find this that Would be Dope!

While we 90’s kids are talking about the obscure early aspects of Cartoon Networks history, does anybody remember those weird promos that were on 4 to 7 AM? I remember one being a weird clay animation or early CGI of faces distorting. Another with doors opening to trees. This was definitely before Adult Swim was a thing and happened around the same time (95 to 97). I remembered them only because as a kid I left my TV on to fall asleep to and wake up to see creepy imagery.

Back in it's early days Cartoon Network had a lot of weirder designed bumps using different types of animation. They used to air frequently across the whole day at times. Other times segregated to the night. When I last saw Adult Swim they had some weird bumps like those being used. It may in fact be some of the same people responsible.

Toonheads and stuff like it only got more obscure because too much of the CN online fandom decided to devote years to revising the actual history of the channel to the point it annoyed the living hell out of nearly everyone that actually lived through it. You can only stand so much of that nonsense. Plenty of us who lived in that time watched and loved toonheads. You wouldn't know that in forums populated by people who thought no one cared or watched CN while it was a 'rerun' channel until the powerhouse era made it important. Though i admit having talks with people in real life usually go much better, but that's just a reality of how people can use the internet to distort narratives when the other side is around. To them Toonheads was some obscure show they barely saw. To us it was a regular part of the lineup. We gotta work together to bridge gaps like that.

There was a short animation on The Disney Channel sometime in the late 80s or early 90s featuring little computer animated bugs living inside a computer. It was kind of like Reboot in that they sort of interacted with the person using the computer but they were all little robotic bugs instead of colorful humanoids and geometric shapes. I'd like to find it again but I don't even know how to search for it.

When I was a little kid, (like between 2007 to 2010 maybe ) I remember seeing a thing on Cartoon Network that I want to know if anyone else remembers and you could possibly do a video on. I can remember what show was on at the time but I remember it happened after the end credits. It was some kind of logo thing or thing to pad out unused commercial time. So it was like a claymation alley way at night and the moon was in the sky. Then the camera panned down past like apartment windows with the curtains closed and there were like silhouettes (not 100% sure about that though). Then on the ground there was a dumpster and a kind of Frankenstein or zombie man standing next to it. This is when my memory gets foggy. I think something happened where he looked in a window or in the dumpster, something like that (I kind of remember a lady screening or something, but this might be something else I’m thinking of). Now I’m pretty sure that it ended with something based around the man with bloody teeth and him smiling. Then it ended with the camera zooming in on a old tv with like rabbit ear antenna (the tv may have been in a garbage pile, I can’t remember and I don’t know if it matters) then the tv showed the Cartoon Network logo amongst static in the tv. Then whatever cartoon on next started. Whatever it was that’s all I can remember and I did know that it scared the shit out of me. I hope this can be found because I’ve been looking for it for ages. I really hope other people remember this creep ass short.

Toonheads is considered obscure? I loved that show as a kid. Used to watch it with my dad and see all the really obscure old cartoons. The trivia/background info was awesome. I remember they would do like a whole episode on WW2 propaganda cartoons, or one was just about a really obscure Looney Tunes character that never took off (it was a sarcastic flea that caused hell for a dog). I got the impression it was one of Cartoon Networks more prestigious shows; before Adult Swim, it had the most "mature" tone of anything they broadcast.

II'd say it's actually well known among those who grew up in the original CN era. But too much of the CN online fandom doesn't care much for a lot of that and consider the powerhouse era the thing that made CN important. Which opinion is one thing, in terms of actual history that's insane. But this is the tale of two eras that is really visible online vs offline. Go offline to people who were kids then, you'll get a lot of praise for it. Go to some of the CN forums and watch them have only the vaguest clue what is was.

"How About One of My Eyeballs?" (Lost/Unidentified Freaky 90s Commercial) Utterly bizarre advert for Red LED Light Bouncy Ball Commercial From The 90s (first of it's kind?) Background and Timeframe. Somewhere lost in the ether of my memory is a particular fad that started in the 90s, that launched with a weird super freaky commercial no one I know can recall. I remember bouncy balls with red flashing LED lights, almost exactly like the ones in "L.A. Lights" shoes that were popular with kids at the time. I've even seen balls like these in stores as recently as 2014. Today flashing LED lights of every color are common, and found in air-inflated balls, and water-filled balls, but I recall these were in solid bouncy balls. I think they were clear? At the time, clear bouncy balls with something in the middle for viewing, were relatively new and all the rage. As a kid I'd tare them open/ destroy them, to get the tiny toy from the middle (which I would loose). As I recall, these were the first of their kind. LED lights in fun little cheap products were relatively new. I believe this was originally a patented product that later devolved into a brand-less generic $1 toy. When these were first released they got a VERY bizarre TV advert. It was pretty standard 90s commercial fair, rock music, bright colors, weird camera angles, kids yelling "woah"... over the top radio DJ announcer - you get me. It ran in Midwestern United States for maybe a year, to a year and a half sometime between 1994 and 1999. I think because it was somewhat generic in it's presentation overall, it's largely forgotten, but its' content was so strange I can't forget it, even though it's fuzzy. So here's how it went... Commercial Description In the advert, a pudgy kid (with chocolate on his face) is eating a doughnut with sprinkles at his bus stop before school. UFO noises draw the kids' attention upward for just a moment, but he seems disinterested. Then a chubby, green, rubber suit alien with a big head waddles up to him, blinking loudly and in a weird peevish robotic little voice says, "Hey kid, I'll trade you something for that doughnut". The kid says no. The commercial then shows a montage of the alien showing off various weird stuff, alien technology, and weird curiosities. Each time the kid just shakes his head no seeming annoyed. "How about this?" the kid shakes his no "What about this?" the kid shakes his head again and ignores the alien. Finally the alien seems wiggly and desperate and says "How about one of my eyeballs?". The kid stops eating his doughnut and looks at the alien suddenly interested. With a mouthful of food he says "How about both eyeballs?" the alien thinks for just a split second like it's not a big deal, and says "mmm... ok" with a shrug. The kids eyes get huge as you hear the popping noises followed by him putting the eyballs in the kids hand. The alien gets the doughnut and looks super happy, despite 2 disturbing black holes in his face. From There the boy starts bouncing the eyeballs and they lightup, with the kid excitedly saying with awe "woaaaah...". This leads right into the advert for the LED light bouncy balls. I know for sure at the time they were only red. Fuzzy Memory and Nostalgia I seem to recall the end of the advert, the alien either runs into something or is unable to eat the doughnut for some reason. I can't recall. I could be getting it mixed up with a don hertzfeldt cartoon as well. I remember seeing the don hertzfeldt short from "rejected cartoons" where the alien takes the dudes eyes at the bus stop. When I saw that for the first time I remember saying out loud "hey... do you remember that strobe light bouncy ball commercial with the alien?" No one knew what I was talking about. No one does to this day. I know I didn't dream it. I couldn't possibly have dreamed up that iconic line. "How about one of my eyeballs?" One of the reasons this commercial resonated so much with me is because my friends and I were constantly swapping food from our lunches at the bus stop and at lunch time, in between trading cards. I always remember that kind of thing fondly. It was a major feature and theme in 90s shows and commercials too. Trading your stuff with friends at lunch time. I have friends who like old commercials from the 90s and I'd love to show this to them. Lost/Unidentified Media Search as of 6/26/2020 one person came forward on the lost media wiki saying they saw this too, but had no information either. I don't know where to look for broadcasting data about what commercials aired when. This may simply be lost forever. That would be a shame, because it's so perfectly ridiculous, campy, and era appropriate, it's almost a spoof of the 90s incarnate. Thanks so much ~James Calico Please check this out on Reddit www.reddit.com/r/tipofmytongue/comments/hglg6g/tomt_lost_90s_commercial/
