As a guy that turned 15 in 1980, I sure appreciate the theme. Best decade ever!

Matt, thank you for making this video and all the work you put into the editing and production. I've never had the privilege of building a motor. Learned some stuff on top of the video looking like it was done by a professional production company. 👌 👍

Looks good, my only issue is this. "Good enough" is the theme for the Tahoe's engine, but an F-body's engine gets extra attention. Yet the numbers remind you how much more the Tahoe is watched/loved than yet another F-body. The people LOVE that Tahoe, Tahiti deserves the same love and care when addressing the engine needs. LOL Nice work there young man, it should have a nice heartbeat when fired up. Carry on!

You already had things set up to measure accurate ptv clearance when you was degreeing your cam, you just needed to push down your valve when you had it at tdc with the mic on top of the valve and see how much the indicator moved

Question though. What about head gasket compressed thickness? Doesn't that play a bit in the PTV clearance?
@johnsnow1355 Жыл бұрын
I foresee a front crank seal leak looks like u tightened the front cover without making sure the cover was centered on the balancer first. Gm was very specific and had a special tool to center the balancer sealing surface before u torque the front cover down.

I gotta ask... is there a reason you wouldn't just run a slightly thicker head gasket to get more ptv clearance?
@lsxmatt Жыл бұрын
When I ordered the tool I thought I only had .016 of ptv which a thicker gasket wouldn’t of helped. I could of ran one after getting the correct measurement but decided just to cut the pistons being I already had the tool.
@ChrisLincolnHomes Жыл бұрын
I was going to ask the same exact thing.

Will going so far over on PTV clearance significantly alter compression ratios?
@lsxmatt Жыл бұрын
I doubt it but a lower cr will help with boost anyway 😂
@MrGFG003 Жыл бұрын
4:45 - ignorant-me question. By doing that, aren't you hurting the balance in the piston head? Isn't the piston head supposed to be balanced to avoid putting extra pressure on the piston walls and rings?
@lsxmatt Жыл бұрын
Yes but it’s such a small amount of weight that it shouldn’t hurt anything.
@MrGFG003 Жыл бұрын
@@lsxmatt Thanks for the reply! Hopefully as you said, it will not hurt anything, and will be a hell of a ride to enjoy, rock hard and have fun with, once you're done with it.

Any chance of using a thicker head gasket instead of opening the reliefs?
@lsxmatt Жыл бұрын
I could of but I already had the tool and standard headgaskets so I just decided to cut them.

hey Matt, I probably missed it but what lift is the cam exactly? thanks 😊
@lsxmatt Жыл бұрын
I don’t know off hand but I believe max lift is around .631 for intake and exhaust.

@@lsxmatt ok, cool. yeah on my LM7 build I am going either a .585 lift and was just curious. thanks Matt.

Damn torquing the head bolts with a 3/8 torque wrench, not and easy thing to do 😂
@johnsnow1355 Жыл бұрын
Direct injection is already dead many manufacturers have ditched it for port injection. The valve contamination is a huge problem making OEM ditch it for regular fuel injection.
