This is part one of a 2 part series. In this episode I get the fuel system started, the pressure regulator plumbed in, and a return line added to the fuel tank, but then I get distracted and start doing some body work..... Okay, the body work needed done before I could install the fuel tank and finish with the pump and filters.

At the time it’s the only way I could do it. I think pulse width is actually better, and would be much cheaper to do.

Since the FPR is before the fuel rail, and there is no return from the fuel rail, can the FPR be mounted near the fuel cell? Or does the FPR need to be close to the fuel rail?

It can be anywhere. The only issue would be trapped air, but with these it’s not a terrible concern since they seem to pass air well. Are you using the psi harness also? Factory wiring uses pulse width to the fuel pump, and doesn’t require a regulator at all since it’s actually controlling the pump to regulate the pressure.

@@DeathTollRacing I'm using an Aeromotive A1000 pump (not PWM) 8AN line and 93/E85 flex fuel N/A 6.2L with a Holley Terminator X for the ECU. I should mention that my application is a little different...autocross and road course work, so the demands on the fuel will be off throttle to full throttle and back to off throttle quickly. Will having the FPR in the back make it harder for the system to keep the correct pressure at the high pressure fuel pump?

@@JeremyinCars That is a tough one and on a traditional efi system I would say it could create a variation in fueling. But assuming your 6.2 is direct injected, I don't think it matters as much since the fuel pump on these acts more like a "lift pump" like in a diesel. Variations in pressure wont have as drastic of an effect on fueling as it would on a traditional efi system. That being said, they do like a lot of pressure on the inlet side, but I speculate that is more to prevent vapor lock pre high pressure pump than boosting final fuel pressure (2000-2900psi) to the injector. This is all speculation on my part however.

I am using an L86 (LT, direct injected) - details here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aHmTaoqpgdCsaKc - Anyhow, looking at the vehicles that these engines are using, they are returnless with no FPR, the pump is PWM controlled...meaning you're probably right that I can save on the AN fuel line and keep the FPR in the back near my fuel cell.

Why non-detergent oil for threads?

You don't want the oil on the threads trying to "suspend" or dissolve contaminates in that situation. Good question! On a new engine it's the same deal. You run non detergent during break in so that it's not trying to suspend contaminants through the oil system, and also not trying to break down the additives in the assembly lube.

68-70psi. This is a direct injection engine. Factory uses PWM to regulate pressure and doesn't have a return line. PSI conversions is who built my harness and didn't use that function of the harness.
