Yet another 4th Gen Fbody is saved with a new LT1 stroker! I get it, LS1/Coyote installs are pretty slick and the aftermarket is huge but many folks don't realize the LT1 itself is extremely serviceable, has a great aftermarket and it strokes out wonderfully but it also accepts boost like an LSx can. Very nice to see that bad boy mated into the engine bay and 2 thumbs up on keeping another 4th Gen Fbody on the road in updraded condition!

Getting ready to stroke my 95. Had a couple questions. Are those the 21 degree heads? Where did you get the T56 conversion? How difficult was it to swap from the 4L60? Lastly who did your motor work/build? Car sounds great by the way!
@jsv87
@jsv87 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Actually, these are the 23 degree heads, ported by Lloyd Elliott. (Specifically theses, with the upgrades: "elliottsportworks.com/?page_id=155" ) The T56 conversion was way easier than what I had expected. I just followed writeups that others have posted on the forums. The only conversion kits I know about are on Ebay or the one sold by Hawks Motorsports, but it's pricey. The alternative is to find a junker to pull everything out of. I did the build myself, but had a local machine shop clean, clearance and bore the block for me.

Awesome build dude. Just building my engine this winter and currently have it completely apart.. two questions. Did you have to remove your interior dash to delete the A/C box. And how you like the koni strt shocks? I have a pair of then but im keeping stock ride height. Cheers!
@jsv87
@jsv87 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! For the A/C delete, everything that's on the interior that needs to be removed is right behind the glovebox. So after I cut the heater hoses in the engine bay, all I did was remove the glove box and wiggled everything out from there. It was easier than I thought it would be. I love the koni shocks. I don't have anything to compare them to as I replaced the original shocks with these, but it made a night and day difference.

Where did you find the guage pod mounts? Also what headers are you using? I could not get the hooker long tubes to fit even after beating on them so I went with pace setter mid length.
@jsv87
@jsv87 3 жыл бұрын
I couldn't find anyone who made a gauge mount for that location so I actually made it myself. I just pulled out the plastic a/c control mount and used it as a template. I cut the shape out of a sheet of aluminum, painted it and used the plastic backing from the a/c control mount to bolt it in. Works and looks good! I'm using hooker long tubes. I didn't have any fitment issues with them. I have read where a lot of people have issues with the hookers hitting the k-member, but that wasn't the case for me. Guess I got lucky.

I love this setup/build. Can you tell me how you relocated the alternator/how hard is it? And what opti did you go with?
@jsv87
@jsv87 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! The alt relocation wasn't difficult at all. It can be done with the engine in or out of the car with little effort. The only things I had to do were, (1) Remove the A/C compressor, (2) Purchase an alt relocation bracket/kit. I got the hawks motorsports one, (3) get a different sized belt. Which belt will depend on where you relocate it to. (4) Extend the wire for the alternator plug that goes to the PCM. That's it. The opti I'm using is a Delphi - part # CZ20003. Got it from Summit a few years back.

hey bro i have a 96 Z, and i have a couple questions, first off how hard would it be to put heads on this thing, as in remove the stock heads and replace them with LE2 heads or such while the engine is in the car. Also do you happen to know why my car throws out so much smoke out the exhaust. The mods are LT headers, CAI 3inch Magnaflow exhaust and no cats. I do not know if it is because of the cats there is lots of smoke coming out and water dripping out the tailpipe.
@jsv87
@jsv87 3 жыл бұрын
Hello, It's absolutely possible, although more difficult, to change out the heads with the engine in the car. The biggest problem doing it that way will be the cramped space in the engine bay to work your wrenches. If I were doing it in the car, I'd probably drop the k-member down on some jack stands to get more room. It would be hell trying to torque down the rear head bolts otherwise. The only thing I can say for sure in regards to the smoking issue is that I also had smoking and a lot of water/coolant in the exhaust track. Mine was due to the head gasket being completely blown in the rear passenger side head. (This was the whole reason for the 383 rebuild) This let coolant into the back two cylinders causing all of the smoke and water. Of course I can't diagnose your issues over the internet, but checking your head gaskets would be the first place I'd look for those symptoms. Good Luck!

@@jsv87 i have no experience dropping an engine. Especially how you guys do it from the bottom hahah just looking at it makes me freak out. How hard do you think it is
@jsv87
@jsv87 3 жыл бұрын
@@rebel9976 My personal preference is to build it outside of the car. It's much easier to work on and in your case, you still get to enjoy driving your car around. My car was on jackstands for a couple of years while I slowly acquired parts and did the build. For the head gasket, it absolutely can be done with the engine in the car. It's just more difficult due to the limited space in the engine bay. I felt the same way about dropping the engine out of the bottom. But, it's surprisingly easy. There are several videos on youtube that show you how to do it.

Super Awesome Z! I noticed you converted over to 4 Bolt Mains. Which brand of mains did you purchase and roughly how much did the machine shop charge you for the work?
@jsv87
@jsv87 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! The main caps are PRW, part # 1735003. The machine shop charged me around $300 for the conversion. It should be noted that these are not splayed main caps. The machine work for splayed caps would be quite a bit more expensive. Splayed caps are really necessary when using a lot of boost, or nitrous. My engine is naturally aspirated. I wanted the extra strength of four bolts considering I will be spinning close to 8k RPM.

Thanks! It's really quite difficult to pin down a price for everything. It's going to range somewhere between $5,000 - $15,000. It all depends on what parts you use, whether you buy a kit of some sort or not, etc. To save money, I bought tons of used performance parts from other Fbody owners in the different forums. Also your machine work prices vary from shop to shop and your plans may change in the middle of your project and you may go a different direction. So in order to remove the engine you have to remove the trans also as one piece and detach the rest of the car?! Holy fuck lol

lol, It's much easier than you think. The engine, trans, front suspension all bolt to the body. Once you unbolt that, you just lift the body of the car and roll it out. So much easier than trying to pull it all out of the top of an F-Body.

Oh okay I figured I’ve seen a lot of ppl do it but never seen the process actually being done. Have a 96 ss and I’m trying to see what I can do to it keep it stock or add a cam to it

I wouldn't put an ls in my lawn mower,if you can't make all of the power you need out of an early Chevy or Ford you just know how to build an engine
