That is the same dream I have for the '93 Caprice I inherited from my grandparents. They bought it with about 5k miles and put another 150k or so on it. Much less after Grandma passed away, but Grandpa was still driving (at least sometimes) after his 100th birthday. My thought was an LS3 with a trans like this truck's, 3.73s or 4.10s, greatly improve the suspension and brakes, and some 18" Schott C7s would fit great on it. Fix all the rust and make a couple small exterior changes that you might not even know were changes. Just need the right Powerball ticket.... Rob's living the dream and doing a great job keeping Willie G's memory alive. That was an awesome video and awesome story.

We all find our way to smile after losing loved ones. There is just something special about knowing you touched something that THEY were the last ones to touch.... Especially tools and say an old jacket or gloves. Takes you back instantly! I'm not so sure Grampa would be very proud of the rear frame area..... I'd have to have a long talk with my Dad if he seen that, on his truck....

I love this truck, my father had the same truck he purchased used back in the day! 1986 with the same colour scheme , dual exhaust, glass packs and a 4 barrel carb! I can still smell the unburnt gas 😂😂! Had a lot of fun in that one! Love it!

This is a badass truck! The only thing I wound change is going with 20" wheels and putting window tint on. I have a 2000 GMC Sierria I bought from my grandparents in 2006 when I was in high school. This is still my daily driver. Good content Shawn

Now that’s a fine ride. I’ve grown up & it hasn’t taken a mountain of shiny bling to get me off for a long time now. To me, the Grandpa Theme set the stage for the build and honestly, I’d say “Done” & that would be that. Like I said, I grew up. Been there done that when I couldn’t stop chroming this & that then taking off a piece stashing it & putting on something else that I saw somewhere & had to have it & a one of my friends would say “I thought you’d chromed that or powder coated it 😳” & I’d say “I did but…”. That pickup is very tasteful & just right.👍 Put a fork in it & call it done.🇺🇸✊☝️

I have the same truck in a 1985 Chevy Silverado,after seeing how this came out I am NOT going to paint it! Mine was bought brand new at Bill Heard Chevrolet in Columbus Ga. Mine had a 305 from the factory,I put a gm crate motor 350 in it,I love this truck!

dude, you seen cartoons or movies where everybody is awaiting a door to open and when it does its just 8 kajillion watts of blinding light that stuns everyone looking. thats got to be how it feels to open the door on this thing. i probably didnt say that to depict the crazyness thatis inside and the patina on the outside. this is one sano ride. you can drive thisand not care about a rock chip but also park next to the most elite show trucks and its just as bitchin' as they are. to me, this is the best build possible. its a piece of family and the engineering and cool stuff is where money went to make it so cool and not spend crazy loot on a paint job. the fab and interior make this in a class of its own. mega job bro!!!!!!

My late grandfather bought a brand new Scottsdale in '85 that he owned for many years doing his wood cutting and splitting business and farm work. I was so young back in those days and didn't know much about vehicles or how to work on them and restore them. Now all these years later I do but that trucks long gone as is my grandfather unfortunately. I would love to the opportunity you did and be able to drive and build something owned by him or my late father as well.

That upshifting quality in other builds is likely due to fuel economy--unless you just want to cruise local, driving a high HP whip to a big car show far away gets annoying when you have to keep stopping for gas. Also, keeping it out of the RPMs helps the valvetrain--and the owner probably doesn't even notice since most seem to stick to part throttle on these cruises anyway.

It's an awesome truck. I'd like to build a truck someday along these lines. But not sure about an air ride suspension. Never rode in one. What would be the difference between an adjustable coil over vs the air. And I'm 6'4", so I'd need a much taller seat back. The one thing that would really bother me is, the seat belts, in this truck. Having them constantly around your neck. Just doesn't seem comfortable. And the wheels just seem to be too big for my taste, I'd like more rubber between the road and the wheel. Because there isn't, is this where the air ride compensates for this.? If the paint is original, wouldn't you want to stop it from oxidation with a coat of clear.? I'm not trying to criticize the truck, just asking questions for myself. For a future build possibly. So, if anyone has answers for me, that'd be great.

At 6'4" you may not like the seating position in a squarebody, The seat belts don't bother me at all. You don't need to clear the finish. There are other ways to prevent further damage. You should look at a coilover truck with 20" rims, more rubber. If you build an autocross truck you can get full buckets with harnesses.

@Robert Lane thanks for the reply. You have an awesome truck. I know of a guy that has a 1986 GMC stepside, he ordered it from GM as a Plane Jane 6 cyl, heavy duty half ton. He put in a 603 cubic inch big block Chevy. Carburetor, no F.I. 4.11 rear. 38 spline axle. Last time I seen him run at dragstrip. 10.37. On drag slicks. He has a roll bar inside the cab, other than that, everything else is stock appearance. It's still street legal. He just switches rear tires to drive up to local Dairy Queen. Lol
