Charity Adams was one of the first African American WAC Officers, graduating from the First WAAC Officer Candidate School in 1942. In 1945, she became commanding officer of the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion, which was the first and only black WAC unit to be stationed overseas during World War II.

This is among one of the many stories we should have been told in history. We were given such a selective perspective.

Thank you for sharing this beautiful history. We recently dedicated a monument to the women of the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion on nearby Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. Lt. Col. Charity Adams Earley's bust sits atop the new monument.

Gen. Foote, seemed to have forgotten military protocol by not referring or acknowledging the rank title of Lt. Col. Charity Adams Early. You would think that such a high ranking officer would have learned better, especially in light of the subject matter at hand.

@@valeriewilliams3010: General Foote, was very neglectful of her military bearings, by often referring to Colonel Adams by her first name, and not by rank. It shows a lack of respect and disparages Colonel Adams military status, as well as treatment for a fellow officer, be it black or white, male or female, Allie or foe.

🎯it was off-putting and slightly distracted me throughout the conversation.

@@syckindahead: I quite agree, it is extremely glaring to witness. I've never by a military fan of General Foote, for I felt, that there were far more female officers, worthy of her rank, than her. That said, I still honor her rank. General Foote should have done so, herself....but her disrespect of Lt. Col. Addams, is by far and away,

For a GI in ww2 mail was actually a matter of life and death. Morale is will to live, Morale wins battles, morale become victory. The 6888th saved Thousands of GI lives by making sure thei recived their mail
