Lucario Beginner's guide - Smash Ultimate 13.0.1

Even tho by now there actually came a new update for smash with 13.0.2 it didnt include any changes in terms of gameplay, so even years after the upload this guide still can be seen as relevant. Also at this point I wanna say thank you very much for your support, the numbers this video did in the past years were truly insane!

Nice vid Mo, here's a few bonus tips for everyone watching, Just like other characters Lucario can cancel aura sphere by landing with a jump right before hitting the ground but Lucario and Mewtwo are the only 2 characters I know that don't ever get hard landings from this, meaning it's better to do that than to wait to shield cancel. And here's my last tip that I actually never heard anyone mention before: if you've already used all your jumps and have a fully charged aura sphere in the charging state if you hold jump when you land it will do a riskless jump landing, no clue why or how it works but it does and that's really all that matters

Actually aura sphere isn't required at all. Just hold jump when you land.

As a personal piece of advice for new players, at high Aura, Force Palm Flame (side B) will essentially become the Super Shotgun from Doom

Good stuff :) just watched it and it's a pretty good video covering the main basics! I agree that aura spere and nair are the two main tools to be accustomed with, they're his 2 best moves in my opinion haha. Both of them lead to so much and it's definitely important to understand what sort of combo string/extension you can get when you land both of those moves :P

Lack of weight is a downside, but his mobility is so good that heavy hitting characters can't really keep up with his mobility. Just need to play calm and smart. Biggest question I have is how should you use his down throw since it sounds like upthrow is a better option in general??

It can generally be used as a combo throw, just as up throw. Biggest use it has compared to up throw is that d-throw - b-air can work (and kill) at mid - higher percents if your opponent DIs out

I was trying out Lucario because I was both getting into Pokemon and *really* getting into DBZ. I figured Lucario was basically Pokemon Goku. I was having trouble landing things, so I switched to Pikachu for a little bit. I've returned to Lucario and I am having much better results than I originally was. I just need to take it slow and steady to improve.

This is extremely helpful. I used to main Lucario but just couldn’t get much out of him beyond being my comeback king with aura. But now I want to relearn him, and aura sphere cancel and that amazing control is what I challenge with the most. Combos I got down, thanks to you, but any advice for aura cancel and control (specifically mid-air) Such as button layouts, stick sensitivity? I have my Y as my grab cause I hate Z (I use GameCube controller) Lastly, but most importantly, amazing breakdown of such an underrated character. Thank you for making this.

First of all thank you very much! Very happy that this guide could help you 😊 About Aura Sphere Cancelling and movement I've set shield to Y and my Stick sensitivity is set to high (I'm talking about my controlls a bit in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/moXVlKqDbr-SqMU under the category "Movement"). All in all it's just a thing of practice. If you spend a bit more time getting back into lucario online and offline you'll get to master Movement and ASC in general easily. My channel's also full of showcases feat. ASC follow up examples and situations where it can be useful, so if you want you can watch through them, maybe that also helps. Last but not least if you have further questions let me know!

If an opponent shield aurasphere charge can you break their shield

Aura Sphere can be used for shield pressure, yeah. Technically when you cancel it while your opponent shields the Charge hitbox you can cancel aura sphere and follow up with a smash attack. As it pretty much comes down to your opponents reaction I'd suggest to use grab/force palm grab out of ASC against shielding opponents
