Mark, Lucas CAV designed/produced the diesel fuel injection pumps rather than Lucas aerospace.

Thank you Jason that’s good to know. The Lucas petrol injection was originally developed for the aero /military sector. So I guess it was a very different part of the business. Official secrets act and all that ! It was first used for racing before road cars. You could also imagine it on a Merlin or something similar it just has that purposeful look of that kind of stuff.

Amazing that someone could have that idea is his head for fuel injection. Design it and then put it in practice. Boggles the mind. Make the modern EFI systems look like child's play in design. .

In 1943 Lucas had a fuel injection system for aircraft and military vehicles. So in the 1950s it was further developed for motor cars. Adopted by Jaguar and used on the D type. So yes remarkable how someone could dream this up and then develop it without computers 3D modding and CNC machines. An idea, a slide rule, a drawing board and then machined by hand !
