Great Mark, I am now slightly less ignorant about fuel injection than I was before this series on the Lucas injector. It really is a well worked bit of engineering for it's day, I love the barometric control with the aneroid capsule. Very simple but effective.

Awesome video. Thanks. So the throttle cable is connected to the butterflies. When that opens it creates a bigger vacuum that is fed back into that block to enrich the mixture. Interesting how the barometric and choke changes the guide for the wheel to follow. Thus enriches the mixture

I guess it could be comped to the oppression of the SU carburettor. In that the jet is moved independently of the butterfly. I would imagine that the concept would have been the jumping off point of this design it’s all about airflow and it was the aero devision of Lucas that worked on this stuff. I do explain the operation of the system in the first film there are 4 films in this series. It’s worth watching them all to get a proper understanding of it. All this stuff was dreamt up in the 1940s and 50s without the aid of computers. Remarkable really.

I am impressed... well explained. I was always in favor of having such a car with Webers as I was always afraid of having fuel in the oil system. Therefore, I never looked deeply into that system. But this is really well explained.

Thank you. It is a good system but is misunderstood. So can be troublesome if not looked after. I don’t think modern fuel is helping.

I would be extremely grateful if you could help me understand the wiring to the injection fuel pump, specifically to the C1 connection on the Lucas 6RA relay. One Maserati factory wiring diagram shows three heavy gauge wires to this relay terminal (one to a safety switch, a second to fuse 11, and a third to no. 8 on the thermal switch). The fuel pump is wired simultaneously to the C2 terminal and to the safety switch. The Lucas injection manual however shows an alternative wiring configuration with only one connection to the C1 terminal ( fed through the fuse and ammeter), but also a second feed mastered through the ignition switch to no. 8 on the thermal relay. This configuration shows no safety switch ( a direct connection from the C2 terminal on the 6RA relay to the pump). I desperately want to avoid any chance of an overloaded circuit and a possible fire hazard. I would be eternally grateful for your help and guidance.

Curious, my 4l metering unit didn't have the cover plate over the levers.

I spent six months fiddling with metering rollers on our 4l trying to get rid of black smoke under load, assuming that it couldn't be the ignition as there was two separate systems. Turned out the the spark leads were cross-firing.

@@lkkaz1 A misfire will affect the manifold depression and make it run rich it is one of the problems of the system. The ignition system has to be operating 100 percent anything less and it upsets the injection system . It is a misunderstood system but can be made to work very well.

Mark do you need to lubricate inside the barometric end around the shuttles etc

A bit of grease around the outside edge of the piston during assembly and a drop of oil on the links.
