I've never heard such exquisite ensemble playing - these two brothers are so in sync with each other that it's just amazing - I've heard other professional pianists of the highest caliber playing together and they are not even close to this level. Extremely well done.

When you put two individual professionals together, they instinctively want to stand out rather than blend. Like a great solo singer who joins a chorus.
@gijsschubert79014 жыл бұрын
There are several performances on KZbin of this masterpiece, and most pianists read the score! These include famous pianists like Evgeny Kissin & James Levine, Benjamin Britten & Sviatoslav Richter, Martha Argerich, Maria Pires, Imogen Cooper & Paul Lewis. However these young heroes play the whole piece from memory. Thank you guys, for 19 minutes of wonderful, sparkling Schubert music!
@lucretiaweil75 Жыл бұрын
The thing is that those great pianists you refer are mostly soloists and just occasionally play pieces for four hands, whilst the Jussens (who I love as well) do exactly the opposite..
@afritimm Жыл бұрын
@@lucretiaweil75 It's an indication the soloists havent immersed themselves in the music.

@gijsschubert79016 ай бұрын
@@Diogenes-archiv You are absolutely right, Radu Lupu and Murray Perahia played probably the most beautiful version during their Snape Maltings concert in 1984. Not sure however, if Radu and Murray played it from memory, or used the score.

Knowing about Scbubert's outward and inner life, characterized by how he would send Goethe finished ms scores of G's poetry S had set to *at least* equal music--and how G ignored them....the way our duo of brothers have internalized this music and infuse it with lyric pathos, sheer play, and at appropriate times an aggression nearly, almost under complete control..... . . . . this rips my heart out. The levels of rejection Schubert had to swallow would make a cptsd zombie out of the best of us. Schubert kept on composing. What can we say? German Romanticism existed to give us this very piece. Right now I am a Romantic. Something almost drilled out of us who have studied Music or Literature academically. Rips my heart out that 2 boys, so young and inseparable, have an entire life (with 2020 under our belts) to live. BOYS: Keep it coming alla Schubert, and even moreso alla Bach to a nice ripe old age. Let us hear you perform this fantaisie at 35, 45, 50, 60 and 70. Let us listen to what more life will have shown and taught you. How it has schooled and blessed your hearts (as seat of the universal emotions and of the personal "spirituality" that needs to be cultivated in order to overcome and thrive in this world and on this planet named Earth. Our very highest and best wishes from all of us you have reached thus far, Mark (Arizona USA)

One of my favorite pieces of music, period. I have collected several recordings of it. This duo (whom I had not heard of before today) turns in a very good performance. They obviously communicate well with each other...lots of marvelous little turns of phrases. Minor notes: I find the first F#-minor section (5:19) a little too fast. The scherzo's (7:57) tempo, though, is perfect. And the fugue was just grand. Must have been a real treat for them to "reopen" their country's "Carnegie Hall" after being closed for so long.
