I am a local, and I have hiked the Headwaters many a time, but I always backpack carry my skis. Watching you guys carry them gave it an entirely different perspective. Made it look a lot scarier. You can tell your dad has been skiing a while. Great technique that you learn with long 203 -205 older skis is my guess. The way the new skis allow dudes your age to rip it up like you do is so great . Im 66 and love the fact you and your dad rip. Also worked at Big Sky back in 78'. Had to hike to get to the a - z chutes. Lots of steep but you had to want it to get it. I think Big Sky is typically just north of the major snow belt that is just south from West yellowstone down to the Tetons. Jackson and Grand Targhee get very consistent big snow years while Big Sky is hit and miss. If you ever hit Big Sky in a big snow year it is amazing. Thx for the vid.

EXCITING STUFF!!! I'm sure the tram is, indeed, 'something else,' Lucas, but you and your dad on those Headwaters Chutes were both exhilarating to watch. (LOVE how your dad has that "ski style" GRACE that was part of ski instruction 'back when.' Not to mention the guts to ski 3 Diamond chutes. BRAVO!) PS. The most "exciting incident" for my twin Lynn I traveling to Big Sky was when we were driving along that final long winding road that takes you to the resort. The sun was rapidly setting, and maybe I WAS a tad above Speed Limit in my anxiety to reach our hotel before dark, but we got stopped by a cop car. After he explained to us that we were somewhat above the speed level, I apologized and admitted that we were very uncomfortable driving up that narrow winding road in the dark, and that THAT probably contributed to our 'extra speed.' LUCKY FOR US, he empathized and did not give us a ticket. Just advised us to maintain the speed limit. WHEW!!!! We were headed to the Huntley Lodge and enjoyed our week at Big Sky, but wished we were proficient enuf to ski the "Big Girl/Boy" pistes! (Also enjoyed the cool town of Bozeman on scarce snow days.) 🤠 Thanks for such an enjoyable vlog! & ⛷Happy Birthday to your dad! 🚟⛷

it is fun to see a video of my home mountain. When you walked around the rock it doesn't show how scary it is. It was really scary in the old day before they installed that rope to hold on to. It looks like you are there very early season. You have very strong legs. The video doesn't show how steep Hell Roaring is. I can't believe you hiked that without strapping your skies to a pack. Hopefully, you can come back and ski some other runs. North Summit field puts headwaters to shame. Unless you can afford a helicopter you can't beat it. Unfortunately, you visited Big Sky when we had the worst snow since the ski area opened I hope you come to visit us again.

Big sky was my home for about ten years, but that was about 15 years ago. I worked full time (except for powder days and hunting season) as a carpenter back in the Yellowstone Club (the private resort behind Bug Sky), and bartended and part time work on the mountain (to get a season pass). I spent my summers living out of my van on the river around Ennis, the Gallatin, and Yellowstone rivers while I worked, fished, and DH mountain bikes all of that country. 17-27 years old was the damn prime of my life lol, now I’m 40 and “stuck” in Minnesota :/… Love the vids (especially of Big Sky).

Sheesh! This is my second time watching this video, this time shortly after coming back from my first days of this season - last monday and tuesday at the bird. Wow. That ski through of Hell Roaring was hair raising! I had fun on the thanks for the memories chute last week in Utah but it now looks tame by comparison! The last time I was at Big Sky it was before the Headwaters/Moonlight Basin was included in Big Sky's lift tickets. Snow looks great, but it is so committed - once you've dropped into the top, it doesnt seem like there would be any hike-outs to bail until you're out, committing you to multiple mandatory straightlining and serious speed through some narrow chokes. Cant wait to ski there in early March!

WOW!!! What an amazing video! I love that you could ski those crazy, rocky chutes with Papa Joe. I was nervous watching that hike up, but you both made it down like pros. What a great way to celebrate his birthday! :)

Was just in Bozeman this past week. Skied Big Sky and was a bit disappointed in the conditions. Then hit Bridger Bowl and same story. Just chose the wrong week to come I guess :( Praying for more snow next winter!

Always good to see father and sons spend time together. Just curious why you call him “Joe” instead of “Dad”?

Cuz that’s his name!!

Damn, we got 8 inches of snow in Big Sky last night. Wish you got luckier with condition and could do Big Couloir but still a great vid!
@LucasCatania172 жыл бұрын
thanks man! gonna have to go back with more snow.

12:01 Bottom ski goes on first, sir :) Joe has a awesome ski style - very smooth, stable and in control, which is really the right way to ski this type of terrain.
@LucasCatania172 жыл бұрын
Not on terrain that steep sir :)
@andrewbellifreeski20392 жыл бұрын
@@LucasCatania17 Yes, still on terrain that steep...always bottom ski.
@LucasCatania172 жыл бұрын
I respectfully disagree

@@LucasCatania17 I guess you prefer doing a 180 with one ski on to get it downhill and then get your other one on? Seems very odd but to each there own..

I am here for it and am sure it is another good one but will have to watch later because it’s DUMPING snow right now at Cottonwood Canyons (Brighton specifically) and have to get after it! haha
