To be fair this was an issue with the old EU. The Jedi Council in Legacy and Fate of the Jedi was very white male heavy. Luke, Kyp, Kyle, Corran, Kennth, and sometimes Kam ... Individually fine characters but Lucas did a better job of having a truly diverse Jedi Council. Yes, you also had some great characters like Saba and Cilghal... But I can see why there would be an effort to be a little more intentional with developing a variety in the kind of lead characters put in the books. However, you still have to write good characters. If you think it's enough to hit checkboxes, then it's tokenism. This is less on individual writers and more something that should be a bit more intentional on the editorial level. Corran's whole Gary Stew arc, probably should have been cut off when Stackpole wanted to make him Force sensitive. Because Star Wars already had a white male Jedi who first established as a pilot. It hit a point where they had almost all the Jedi flying X-wings and that got a little boring. Luke being an X-wing pilot and Jaina carrying on the piloting tradition was fine, but trying to make all the Jedi fighter pilots felt uninspired.

In one of my last architecture related classes, we were discussing what is most important to us at a firm when looking for employment. Many of these kids responded with "diversity". "Diversity" is not what these kids think it is... Diversity does not work the way they think it does. "Oh its great because you get different perspectives and solutions to things!" No. You need a basis of cohesion. You can't throw in completely different attitudes/styles/ preferences into a project and expect them to meld well and run smoothly. "Diversity" in their minds literally only works as a surface level "skin deep" contributor because everything else has to bend to their ideologies, thus cancelling out any true "diversity" of thought. Not to mention, the reality is the most important thing you should be looking for in a job is simply employment as if they'll have a plethora of options that they'll be able to pick and choose... Especially straight out of school. And its hilarious that they think they're going to have any say in design development any time soon regardless.

And the only reason why they have blacks in everything, is because they complain the most. And they are hoping to silence whites into accepting that crap by saying they are racist unless blacks, who only make up 13% of the population, minus all those in jail and doing nothing with their life collecting welfare, have to be in 100% of everything and be at least 50% of all everything. Even if they put every single black in everything, they still would not make up even 1/4 of all entertainment and sports. But they want to act like blacks are 50% of the race. Which is why they don't care about all the other races. Notice they only care about race, or blacks, and women in everything and dare to call skin and gender diverse?! Yet there are so many other things that make so many people different. But that does not sell their DEI agenda.

Diversity in stories shouldn’t automatically be seen as a bad thing, as long as the diversity isn’t directly incorporated into the story. Simply having a female character apr person of color should in no way be cause for people to get angry, it’s should only be seen as a problem when the writers are trying to force those themes into the actual stories themselves, which they aren’t really, for example if they had a storyline for a character where they were experiencing racism, that would be really stupid and not fit the Star Wars universe at all, but nowadays I feel like people just see a persona of cool and immediately think that’s woke or forced when in reality they just decided to cast a woman or person of color

Maybe that’s why they use gender and race swapping. Instead of looking up to the character for what they really are, they want to change the character visually so as to satisfy that shadowy dark conscience on their shoulder who always says “can’t can’t can’t”.

Not pro-war’? How patronizing and self-important. The idea that their mediocre space adventure could somehow convince people that war is good is delusional-they should be taking people’s coffee orders instead of making entertainment. Plus, it’s ridiculous to think audiences need a reminder that war is bad in a Star Wars movie. The heroes are always the underdogs fighting desperately against a superior force, which never lends itself to a pro-war narrative.

We in the flyover states are just the clueless masses, scraping by in the dirt. Naturally, our Hollywood betters have to remind us that movies are fiction, because we’re apparently too dumb to tell the difference. Hollywood hacks are self-important.

What if, we just made a movie about a Star war? With rebels fighting evil. Instead of evil fighting the good?

as a person of color,l concur,the audience doesn’t need superficial representation,just a GOOD RELATABLE story,we want quality over quantity(l don’t give a hoot about a character’s gender race religion or sexuality)the current show runners just don’t get that simple concept 😓
@declancampbell12772 ай бұрын
and this is the true face of the woke DEI stuff, as you said "superficial". Its one of two things. The first being corporate box checking that reduces people of color to "token" characters, which as far as im concerned is racism disguised as kindness. The second is the ideologically possessed people that weaponise people of color to push their own activism. In this case again, just hiring a person based on the color of their skin to win some sort of moral victory is also racist.

"Actual ending" You know what, it seems like there have been a lot of shows and movies that have either forgotten to give any kind of satisfying ending... or they purposely, and deliberately go out of their way to make the characters unlikable and to make sure that the ending is insulting or a waste of time for their audience. This has been a fun little trend in entertainment since Weeds and Lost, and it is unfortunately not unique to Star Wars. It's made me hate watching so many things anymore.
@stuartspencer21612 ай бұрын
As for Star Wars though, they did do the "actual ending" with The Last Jedi. They pretty much killed any thread that was set up in The Force Awakens, and then left no cliffhangers for people to come back for Rise of Skywalker.

I love dinosaurs too, and I’ve been wanting them in Star Wars for a long time, can you imagine a character getting lost in space only to find a planet in another galaxy where there are these huge (even more huge if we pretend the denizens of the galaxy far far away are smaller than us, the original Star Wars action figures gave me that idea) creatures, dinosaurs, and the planet is Cretaceous era Earth? That would be amazing, instantly my favorite Star Wars movie or series, if they do that, and it fits well with the whole “a long time ago” disclosure.

More diversity in star wars…. think about that for a second, what other movie or franchise has more diverse characters than star wars?? But no, it has to be THEIR version of diversity. South park nailed it with the episode about disney, they really are a joke now.
@crayvun21962 ай бұрын
Completely agree, you guys nail it. Its so frustrating, and kinda hilarious, to hear things like "neo-na*i" being thrown at us. When the simple fact is that the characters were poorly written! Do they seriously think that Rings of Power, or The Acolyte or whatever, does really badly because what, suddenly 60% of the audience are secretly evil monsters? I mean we're talking about us goofy ass SW nerds here, it just doesnt add up!
@S0L12D32 ай бұрын
It’s really telling when “diversity” is listed above: feelings, actual ending, relatable characters, AND WORST OF ALL it’s above epic. Star Wars is a tragedy that contains all the elements of an epic poem!!!! How can they put epic at the end of the list 🤦🏻♂️
