Always love how Kevin goes over different variations and give good analysis.

its been about 25-30 years since i played chess; joined lichess last year during lockdown out of depressed boredom with a broke L2L4, & although I lost a lot of games and acquired a lot of back pain, mainly falling into all the classic obvious traps I'd all but forgotten, (often accompanied by a sickly de ja vu feeling lol), but I have to say, these videos have really improved my game over the last few months bud. Don't get me wrong, my end game still lets me down no end, & I defo need to get better at holding on to any passed pawns and avoiding those all too common, yet still sinking, last-minute, fork-blunders, under time pressure, but thanks to you bud, I'm definitely not the same achetypical gambit victim I was. (and to any other nooobs, I think always trying to play the best players I could find in the lobby, has also helped). so thanks 4 the videos. & Stay groovy.

Love your videos on the Lucchini gambit and the Alexandre gambit. I know it's not very sound but I'd love to see one on the Rosseau gambit as well. It's somewhat similar and I'm always on the lookout for new tools to employ against the Italian!

10:58 what will you do if white's knight goes to f7? forking both queen and rook. Will you counter-attack with Nf6?
@dudemanaric3 жыл бұрын
yeah that's the obvious choice for white too.. hmm

can you do a video helping beginners in chess? I played chess 6-7 years ago and started playing again but I would like to improve from my 'beginner' status. If you could that would be really helpful. Thanks

Puzzle: The winning move for white is Re7! Yes, even if it can be captured by 3 pieces! 1. The rook cannot be captured by knight or bishop as it allows Qf7 mate! 2. If Qxe7, then Qd5+ Qf7 Qxf7 is again a mate! 3. If the rook is not captured, Qf7# still needs to be defended. All the attempts to support the f7 square lead to mate, as follows: a) Qd5 is not possible due to Qxd5, and if Qe8, then Rxe8 Rxe8 Qf7#. b) Nd8 loses the queen to Rxd7 and now the knight can't move else Qf7#. Whatever black moves, in the next move, we capture the knight with Rxd8 and then Rxd8 Qf7#. c) Ne5 protects the f7 square and attacks the white queen. But then, black still loses after the continuation Rxe5 Re8 Rxe8 Qxe8 Qd5+ Qf7 Qxf7#.

Could you do a video on aggressive responses to the French defense (preferably something less dubious than the Orthoschnapp)?
@polychromaa3 жыл бұрын
Look up the alekhine chatard attack (1. e4 e6 2. d4 d5 3. Nc3 Nf6 4. Bg5 Be7 5. e5 Nfd7 6. h4). Beautiful weapon against the French defense, I won a game with it in 13 moves the other day, and a few days before that I won a game with it in 22 moves. Not only that, but it’s not dubious at all objectively. My engine says equality or slightly better for white.
@mattchete26803 жыл бұрын
@@polychromaa I've never heard of that one before. It looks pretty good. Can you get that position pretty regularly or is it more of a "oh look what my opponent stumbled into" kind of position?
@polychromaa3 жыл бұрын
@@mattchete2680 Every move before h4 was a main move, you should be able to get it fairly often. I should mention that after h4 Bxg5 hxg5 Qxg5 there are two lines, Nh3 or Qd3. If you want to play the Alekhine Chatard Attack you should look up the stockfish-alphazero game where stockfish 8 crushed alpha zero with the gambit in 22 moves Other good options for black were the Winawer (1. e4 e6 2. d4 d5 3. Nc3 Bb4) and MacCutcheon (1. e4 e6 2. d4 d5 3. Nc3 Nf6 4. Bg5 Bb4) variations. Against the Winawer I have been experimenting with Nge2, the alekhine-maroczy gambit, it certainly looks interesting, unique, and not very dubious. Against the MacCutcheon variation I have been experimenting with Nge2. All of these are pretty good aggressive gambits, but if you aren’t interested, maybe look into the Alapin gambit (1. e4 e6 2. d4 d5 3. Be3), it has a huge amount of surprise value and is probably less dubious than the orthoschnapp. The Milner-Barry gambit and French Wing Gambit are worth a mention too.
@mattchete26803 жыл бұрын
@@polychromaa I checked out the game and that was pretty crazy. Against the Winawer have you ever considered the fingerslip variation?
