I love the goal of your channel! I have grown tired of American popular music being less musical and less interesting. I have been looking at many artists around the world and there are some great singers out there who deserve to a wider audience. The best male voice I have ever run across comes from a 24 year old from Kazakhstan, Dimash Kudaibergen. Dimash is one of those especially talented and motivated people who think "I've mastered opera, what's next?". So it's on to pop, then RnB, then traditional Kazakh folk then rock etc. Because he can do all these different tones and styles, he tries to figure out how much he can put into a single song because it would be too easy if the whole song was in a single style, right? Then he scouts around for great songs and when he finds ones he likes he doesn't do translations, he has to do them in the original language (13 so far). I can bet So Hyang has made more people cry than all other singers put together. Just seeing her walking on stage brings water to some people's eyes. There is a definite love for this truly humble lady. There is a youtube interview she did with a guy from Turkey where she describes her preparation for singing...i.e. no laughing, speaking softly, practicing Mariah Carey song for 30 minutes that day... no loud sounds with the voice....all these things she says creates phlegm in the throat, she keeps a tight waist, moderate amounts of exercise for core strength....and advice for up and coming singers 'practice more than anybody else on the planet'. She also noted that she would practice a new song 'a hundred times' before bringing it on stage. So Hyang I gather carries a lot of self-doubt baggage, and is why she is such a hard worker...to her she has to sing twice as good as everybody else, to be at their standard. lol And she has even considered giving up singing because of her doubt over her ability believe it or not......but she prays a lot and in the end, she got the message...'trust'... so she no longer sings for herself, a she now believes' He is with her.

Hi Lucia...i will be honest to you and your subscribers...Sohyang is the only gospel singer that really moved me...she is the ONLY one...and why is it surprising??? I am a muslim. I watched her Bridge over Troubled Water because it is one of my all time favorites...and i was shookt!!! Unbelievable emotions! She once said this: "I WANT TO SHARE MY MUSIC, NOT SELL IT." that is why she is relatively "unknown" outside Korea. I have so much respect for this wonderful lady.

So Hyang has so many wonderful performances its hard to know where to start. 'Arirang Alone', a Korean cultural classic, is a thrilling arrangement and is her most watch KZbin video. It has a couple of moments that takes the unitiated by total surprise, and an ending that shows the total control and skill this woman has. She show cases her exquisite skill in vocal control in this one. And on a further note, her vocal coach at one stage was the same one as Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Streisand,....etc so her skill is no accident...plus she practices more than anybody on the planet.

He then got hold of So Hyang and arranged for them to share eight concerts together at Tokyo's Blue Note Club in late 2018. So Hyang was thrilled to share the stage with David Foster. Foster places So Hyang at the very top level of the diva list that he has worked with, including Whitney Houston. So Hyang decided at that time that she did not want to pursue a world wide singing career. She decided that it would be spiritually ruinous, and credits God with correcting her course in life. Do you know the story behind her awesome talent? She has always been singing, but when she was 20 years old and newly married she got cancer in her stomach and had to go through several operation. Because of this, she can never have children. But being member of the church she got people praying for her, and she survived the cancer. Because of this she sees her life a gift from God, and she wanted to dedicate her life and singing to Him. She said she wants her singing to comfort people who are in pain, telling them “I see you- I’ve been there”. She has since then almost exclusively been singing at churches at home and abroad, at charity events, or events to honor other artist - meaningful events, and avoided taking part in the big music industry. She has been contacted many times by international managers who could help her getting famous here in the West (she is famous in Asia, despite her limited performances), but she has always refused. Now she is about 40 years old (she looks so much younger!) and the last few years she has been participating in South Korean music contests on TV. When she first started singing on these TV shows she was very conflicted if this was the right thing to do. But then she saw a woman in the audience crying while she was singing, and she realised that her calling was to reach out to everyone who is hurting, not just people in church. ❤️ She not only has an outstanding talent and the most beautiful voice, her singing touches people in a way that is hard to explain, a gift from above. I personally had the honor of hearing her live and in concert here in California 2 years ago and hearing her sing live is an experience at another level ... she will be performing in New York next month .. you should explore further S. Korea's amazing singers such as ALi Cho (or Jo) Yong Jin, Son Seungyeon, Park Ki Young, Ailee, etc they seem to have great singers in their DNA male and female alike , I enjoyed your reaction very much ... words were not necessary your physical reaction and facial expressions said it all !!

Sorry to learn about what happened to you. Other than the monetary value, It's so debilitating to lose work you created with heart and sweat over time. During the period of anxiety and depression, it is the perfect time to listen to Sohyang's Bridge Over Troubled Water. More than Sohyang's technical prowess, it's the emotional healing we can get from listening to her that makes her my favorite singer. Out of all her amazing work (and there are many), her rendition of Bridge Over Troubled Water will always be my top performance. I can't even speak to the emotion this performance invoked in me. First time I have encountered your video; good analysis. I agree that "Arirang Alone" is the next So Hyang video to hear. Also, there is a mistake that continues to get perpetuated in some comments. She had cervical cancer, not stomach cancer. Unfortunately she cannot have children.

The owner of the list updates the links semi regulary, so it's good for quick reference, especially for subtitled performances, since KZbin purges that kind of subtitled videos on a regular basis, for copyright and whatnot. That is why there are videos not only from KZbin but from Vimeo too, linked by that list. Some of the Sohyang videos in KZbin, even by the copyright owners are incomplete. So, watch out for those. 😵 Follow the list or recommended links by commentators, rather than searching yourself.) It's up to you if you want to start recording in English. Props for the extra effort if you do. If you want to stay with the current format, it's also fine, since I think you gave a pretty good english subtitles. 👍
