Lucifer doesn't lie, but he sarcastically roleplays his own reputation to hide how miserable he feels underneath. This is the first episode we can see his mask is beginning to crack.

One reason this show works so well is Tom Ellis' ability to jump from being childish, to seductive to terrifying.

He is such an awesome actor, carrying so much of the show. When one focusses on Lucifer's growth, tries to see everything from his perspective, even the weaker phases of the show become tolerable. The scene in Dr. Linda's office is amazing.

This show should be called "Character Development: The Series". And it's not just Lucifer, it's pretty much everyone.

I so love his monologue in this. I got goosebumps the first time I saw it. Ellis acted the shit out of those lines. My husband adopted the "I CAN'T!!!" when he cannot do whatever thing he is trying to do😅

Amenadiel. 4 syllables. Sounds like A, men, a, deal. Amenadiel. It took me a few shows also. And now, Lucifer has to own up to his actions. For once, he is getting the bad end of the "schtick". And his Brother is unknowingly helping. I like this episode. Good Post, Anna.

While not mentioned in the show - nor part of the show's canon - in the comics the show is based on, the dolls actually housed/trapped souls.

When asked, the show runners said the dolls were originally just a placeholder until they could figure out what to use as a plausible decoy. After the shoot, it was decided they fit the narrative (mysterious and unexplained though), and would just keep them. Can’t remember which interview or if it was contradicted later, but a fun story.

This is one of my favorite episodes of season 1, not only because we get to hear Tom Ellis sing for the 1st time. This episode begins to give us a deeper look into Lucifer’s character and a little of the darkness surrounding his identity. It shows Linda’s true value in the overall storyline. We see true anger from Lucifer for the 1st time and we also get to see how Amenadiel, a supposedly pure angel, has no problem lying and manipulating. Lots of different angles of characters are starting to peek through and it’s just the beginning of so much character development. So much fun 🤩 Thanks for a great reaction ❤

I'm not religious but watching this show made me realise that we all have free will & can say no to a sin (big or small) When Lucifer says about the frase 'the devil made me do it'. He completely right we blame others (family, friends & the devil) when we make mistakes or sin. We don't admits to our sins & takes responsibility for our actions This is why this show is so great religious or not we can learn about are selves though all seasons

Oh, you *have* to hear Nina Simone perform Sinnerman. I think this is the first time we hear Tom Ellis sing. Apparently the crew was at karaoke early in the first season when they discovered he could sing, he spent a lot of time with a coach over the course of the series and really showed off his chops a few times.

Still loving your reactions....I suspect Lucifer was too angry in that moment to think about where/how/who Linda might have gotten her information from. Linda definitely hit a nerve though...I don't think she was expecting quite that much of a reaction.

0:20 Depends on the religious text. Since Lucifer is based on a DC comic, I doubt the number is that high. For instance the Catholic religion believes that we each have a Guardian Angel, which would make the number in the billions. 🌻✌️😸

I always thought that he doesn’t immediately think emenidiel because she got him so angry after already having the wings taken. Sure if he were to take a step back and start thinking logically, he probably would come to that conclusion, but he isn’t thinking clearly right now.

1. Its Amen-e-deal. It'll grow on you 2. I like the chloe dan relationship thing. Not great but feels like we walked into something awkward instead of something made for tv. 3. Trixie belives Lucifer is the devil. And its why she likes him a lot. He punished her bully and now he cheers her up. Also the sign on her door says "no boys allowed, except for Lucifer"

2. Chloe-Dan. I agree with your description of their relationship, but that's why I find it dull, boring and pointless. Makes me think, "Why is this even in the show?"
@IdriveKITTnyc

@@michaelhoward142 personally I think it adds life outside of what we see on screen. Which actually happens a lot in this show. Can it be boring, for sure. But so is life and without that kind of stuff you end up with a CW type of soap opera drama. Them trying to work things out implies that it wasn't a toxic or negative break. Just two adults that gradually fell apart and still get along and are trying to be good parents. Neither using Trixie as a weapon against the other.

The precipice of a story change - occurs rather frequently in this one. And it gets deeper and more interesting as we leap into the unknown. Oh and again the pronunciation of the Angel brother's name is "Ah Men Ah Deal" Amenadiel.

Why do they blame me for all their little failings? As if I'd spent my days sitting on their shoulder, forcing them to commit acts they'd otherwise find repulsive. "Oh, the Devil made me do it ." I have never made any one of them do anything. Never.

That`s one of Lucifer`s few lines in The Series that`s direct from The Comics. Another is "Oh, The Devil made you do it, did he? Sorry to say, that isn`t actually how any of this works. Every choice is your own, darling, for better or worse. Put your life together please, for God`s sake."

one thing this show makes abundantly clear is that the angels are flawed at best, same as humans, and most of them are more villain-ish and jerks than lucifer. the only things the bible has correct is that lucifer was banished for some kind of rebellion (we never learn what kind or how that rebellion looked like) and that the devil is/was an angel. take amenadiel for example. he´s a straight out villain that manipulates humans to get what he wants and that´s not even the worst thing he does

Technically, Lucifer is derived from Lux Ferre which means "To bear light" and is mistranslated in The Latin Vulgate from Heylel Ben Shachar "Shining one, son of the dawn". Also, little known fact:Jesus also refers to himself as "The bright and morning star in The Bible".

'Caught in the basement' I like this phrase that you are using for your intro. If Lucifer did know you, this would have become the title of one of the episodes. 🙂 I would also like to add another point. God is all knowing. Lucifer is his son. Lucifer did not inherit this power but many times he is using his mind for logical conclusions. And that is coming close to being all knowing. Sometimes the clarity of his thoughts may be obscured by strong emotions for things or people. Throughout the whole show, you will recognize this motif.

Not quite pollen season... Just had a foot of snow over the weekend... The thing about this series, is that you don't have dwell on things for long... The mysteries, powers and plot devices of the wings will be demonstrated quickly...Its kind of the opposite of how a series would be written even a year or 2 latter than this - where we would have a 10 or 12 episode arc to unravel a mystery like the devil's wings... Lucifer sets up plots, expands them, and solves them all in a 2 or 3 episode arc... Character and plot development express. This kinda why the "Case of the Week" plot device suffers with a simplified plot some weeks.

This is sort of what I like and dislike about new TV series story telling. I like the larger questions and philosophical discussion about Lucifer and his place in creation. You have to know and have interest in Catholic theology and narrative history of the Lucifer story. Biblical knowledge is left out because most of the story of Lucifer is outside of the bible. However the bits and pieces you get every episode are annoying because it forces you to put together what the writers are going after.
