The singing wasn't originally intended to be on the show. The crew went out to karoke one night and heard him. That's how it got in the show. I won't say which is my favorite that he sings. One thing that is amazing is how this show starts to scrape and then digs. The wings are not what you expect. I was shocked when I first saw them. Like he said, he is a paradox.

The speach Lucifer gives comes straight from the comic book character they used for inspiration. Though the tone he delivered it in was almost certainly different... because in the comic he was speaking to Dream, in Hell. "Why do they blame me for all their little failings? They use my name as if I spent my entire days sitting on their shoulders, forcing them to commit acts they would otherwise find repulsive. 'The devil made me do it.' I have never made one of them do anything. Never. They live their own tiny lives. I do not live their lives for them." Neil Gaiman, The Sandman, Vol. 4: Season of Mists This was probably the inspiration for the entire show.

I'm glad you're getting into this show, it was a bit of a guilty pleasure of mine when it aired on Fox back in the 2010's. I was hooked almost right away with the first season, Tom Ellis is such an entertaining actor, he brings layers to Lucifer, especially when he gets to showing us that seriousness underneath all the charm. I was so disappointed when it got canceled after its second season, which as we know it was picked up by Netflix and given a proper conclusion.

But suicide is a sin in pretty much all versions of the abrahamic religions, and since you can't repent afterwards since that sin is literally the last thing you do while alive, you go straight to hell. _That_ makes it idiotic for this guy to kill himself to get away from the devil.

I really love your reaction to one of my favorite shows! You are the first reactor that i saw picking up on something i was wondering since i saw this episode the first time. Lucifer is Latin and really means "lightbringer" or "lightbearer". I never understood why they had to go through the Hebrew Name Samael which, if i understand it right, does not even mean lightbringer but "the venom of God"

Yes, "Lucifer" is literally "Lightbringer" in Latin. No idea why the show tries to make that a "Samael" thing, which (as far as I can tell) _doesn't_ actually mean that.

I don't think they're trying to say Samael meant Lightbringer, just that those were two other names he was called which (importantly) were NOT "tainted" by his devilness (most people have heard of Lucifer = Devil, but very few know Lucifer = Lightbringer, even though that's the direct translation). At least that's how I always understood this. Then again, looking up the meaning of Samael, according to Wikipedia it includes terms like blind angel or angel of darkness, which could be both the same or the opposite of Lucifer and shows the two sides in him, angelic and demonic.

Which can also be interpreted as two different other names, despite Lucifer answering "that name" (singular).
