As much as I love Tom Ellis' voice, I think what makes his performance really great it's the fact that he's acting while singing. We don't see Tom Ellis here, we see Lucifer and his suffering. This episode is one of my absolute favorites of all the seasons, but I must say whole seasons 5 and 6 are simply amazing. I finished it all and still can't say goodbye.

I don't fully agree with your statement because there still is quite some potential there and when it's a question about money then producers will always find a way to renew the series with some stupid plot although everything has been said and done already. He maybe doesnt have big range but that timbre and amount of emotion that his voice contains that's what make him so unique. Lust, desperation, joy, sadness, power, weakness, desire, emptiness, confusion, fortitude, loneliness, love...Tom could convey all of these with his voice! Perfect song for this moment. Tom Ellis is a great pianist singer and just an all around talented musician/performer. Cinematic heft to his piano skills - so much passion and depth in the dynamics of his choosing, soft/loud and everything in between. Legato is so fkn smooth. My god. Through out the series I developed a deep respect for Mr. Ellis’s music talent. This piece is my #1 fav of all the series. I very recently divorced after spending nearly 20 years with the same woman. One of the things that first drew me to the series was actually their choice of music. First track was No rest for the Wicked by cage the elephant and then it proceeded with some David Bowie which was enough to reel me in. But this... I don't think his vocals are perfect but it's their imperfection that is the icing on the cake for me. It makes it more realistic. A broken man, nay angel, longing to feel a certain way, awakes in the middle of the night to lay it all out, to the sound of a lone piano. Just ..mwaah!
