My theory for the ducks is that he was fixated on the moment Charlie first laid eyes on one of his creations, the part where she sneaked in while he was working, and so he held on to that memory of her smile despite being estranged for a long time. There's also that line he sings, "I've missed that smile."

I've never seen anyone hate Lucifer so much. I get why, but I love him. He's not like your typical dead beat dad, he's just a goober who wants nothing more than to reconnect with Charlie but doesn't know how. When he tried to disuade her from her dreams with the hotel, it was to protect her, like he says in the song. He might not be the best at parenting, but you can tell he's trying, and that he genuinely loves and cares about her. Also, Jeremy Jordan was perfect casting.

An interesting perspective on Lucifer but a welcome one… all of their family is pretty horrible at communication, and Lucifer is just depressed and anxious, which ultimately strained his relationship with Charlie. After she also didn’t put as much effort into the relationship, he ended up self sabotaging a little bit by convincing himself that he wasn’t needed. He definitely has his flaws he needs to work out, but ultimately he was able to fully convey what he wanted from their relationship to Charlie which is what mattered. He wants to protect her and support her, he just struggles in doing so and isn’t very good at parenting

5:20 He's depressed over the fact that he's there and feels like his dreams have ended and that is dealing with the fact that this is all because he gave Eve the apple because he wanted humanity to have free will. He doesn't go out that much - apparently sometimes forgetting stuff can be a sign of depression (don't quote me on that, I heard it somewhere and I need to check so no one quote me on that).

Speaking from personal experience: Yes that CAN happen. Depression takes many forms. If like Lucifer all you can think about is the mistakes and the bad unchangeble state of the world and people in general its hard to focus on other things. Especially if like him you blame yourself for it. He cuts himself off from the outside world as much as possible, to prevent these thoughts and has errected mental walls to no longer feel the neverending pain of... well everything really. Thats why he makes so many ducks its something "small" that remains under Control and cant hurt anyone. Other forms also can make it impossible to find even the mental strength to stand up and take a shower. Under these circumstances it is hard to remember most things, especially a conversation bit that happened literral months ago. And thats not even considering the fact that Lilltih took his daughter away from him (potentially because of these depression symptons but we dont know why they split, but that could be an additional factor), and kept them seperated. He feels that he is not worthy of her and would everything even worse, no matter how much he wants to be with her and there for her. Is it rational? not really. But this feeling is so strong that its almost impossible to perceive other line of thoughts, let alone act on them because of the potential risk to hurt those he cares for.

Another symptom of deep clinical depression is that you basically hate yourself, so you assume everyone else hates you, so why bother even trying to change anything, it forces you to shut down emotionally… When someone actually breaks through that wall and you realize someone actually *wants* to spend time with you, you tend to obsessively lock onto that connection, but it’s only a matter of time it’s beaten back down by the “everyone hates me” mindset and you shut down emotionally again. Ask me how I know…

I see why you may not like Lucifer's outlook on humanity, but you have to remember; he can only see the bad parts of it. From the start he has been in hell and the introduction literally states he only sees the bad parts of humanity, not any of the good. You know, it's ironic, because Charlie also never seems to call her dad unless she wants something from him... so like, it's interesting that she's accusing him of the same things she does herself. Plus, the first thing that gets Lucifer on board with anything is Charlie inviting him over. He wants to be in her life, but is terrible at communicating that. If anything it almost feels like she's the one guilt tripping and manipulating him, and being a bit of a... well... After all, he arranged for her to see Adam. Then to go to Heaven. She runs this hotel, is pardoned from exterminations, and has the power she has because of her dad. When she fucks up, it's generally her own doing, and, honestly... the failure to communicate seems pretty mutual. Also, the choice didn't lie solely with him. Lilith decided on that too, though, unlike a lot of the fans, I'm still holding out hope that it's because of good intentions gone wrong. Lucifer clearly didn't take his failure to introduce free will into the world - which had horrible consequences - very well, and wound up locking himself away in his room, away from the sinners that he was supposed to lead. But Lilith thrived where he was miserable and potentially just didn't want her daughter to turn out as miserable as her father. So she limited his influence by limiting their time together physically. And Lucifer, not having faith in sinners wound up discouraging his daughter not because he doesn't care, but precisely because he *does* care. He just sucks at showing it. (You can kind of see that in the way he interacts with Vaggie, very awkwardly.) So she turned to her mother instead, who probably was more... optimistic, shall we say? But then her mother disappeared, leaving Charlie alone. And because she didn't have faith that her father would have faith in her, she didn't reach out unless she was desperate, and in turn, Lucifer didn't think he should reach out unless she wanted him to. So he never called first. But we never see him ask for anything, arguably, so... maybe Charlie's projecting. Maybe they both don't know how to start up conversations with each other unless they use needing things as an excuse. (Although, weirdly, Lucifer doesn't seem to, and doesn't need anything back from Charlie, who seems awkward throughout, doesn't talk about anything but her goal and what she wants/needs...)

Why do you make it seem like Charlie is the villain in this relationship. Her dad was distant from her and never knew how to be a good dad. She had every right to be upset. If he distanced himself away from her then she probably thinks he doesn’t want to be around her. Lucifer knew how much of an asshole Adam is but still sent Charlie. He could’ve been supportive at the start. Both are terrible at communicating with each other.

22:51 here’s the thing with Angel’s eyes: Before the show got picked up, there was a backstory Viv loosely had. I don’t know if it’s still canon, but I kind of hope it is. The story behind Angel’s black eye is actually tragic. Back when Angel was Anthony (ie alive) he was an addict that was born into a mob family. Angel has two siblings, Molly (who we see in ep 6 in Heaven) and Arackniss (who we actually get a cameo of in the finale). Arackniss was sent off to war (since Angel died in the 40s and thus WWII was going on). Angel had begun using drugs probably to cope with his sexuality (since being gay in the mob would’ve gotten you killed). Angel’s drug of choice was PCP (ie Angel Dust) hence his name in Hell. When Arackniss came back from war, he had severe PTSD which due to the time period and his family life was left untreated. He and Angel fought a lot post his coming home, and one night a physical fight broke out. During the fight, Arackniss gave Angel a black eye and said “go overdose on more drugs”. Angel did just that, overdosing on PCP while his black eye (given to him by his older brother) formed. Thus, Angel’s black eye followed him to Hell, where it lays as a constant reminder of his fight with Arackniss. If the backstory is still canon, that would make Angel an even more tragic character. As that meant Angel led a life and an afterlife of abuse 😢

I really love Lucifer. I feel so strongly for him. Like... this is very much a show that doesn't spoon feed you the story. So when Charlie says "He never calls unless he's bored or needs something" you can't take that at face value. Like, it's charlie, she 100% believes it, but that's her perspective. (speaking as someone who's mom was a "she never drops by unless she needs something or wants to steal something" mom)... the reality is that she doesn't know. Lucifer is depressed. He says as much himself ("take that depression!!")... and depression is REALLY good at making you feel like no one wants to be around you or like you're a burden. --and in that same respect: "she hasn't called (lucifer) in years." now aside of the more obvious... there's a lot suggesting that lilith put a rift between them and wouldn't let them interact much past a point. Look at how SAD lucifer is when LIlith takes her away during the sing. Like there's sunlight. it's not bedtime or anything. anyway I love the little duckie man. cannot wait to watch you finish up this show

I completely understand how you feel about Lucifer. I'm glad you're not so mad at him anymore, but I just wanted to say that you shouldn't be. He's a really tragic character if you think about it. He was exiled to hell for doing what he thought was right, and if you remember during the story in episode one in said that part of his punishment is that he can't see the good in humanity anymore. He was cast out from Heaven, lost his wife and daughter, and fell into a depression. When he picks up the phone he says she hasn't called him in ages, and Charlie says he only calls when he needs something. It's miscommunication. Also it could just be me being a kinnie and projecting but I feel like he shows some signs of being on the spectrum, _particularly_ with his obsession with rubber ducks and trying to make up scripts before talking to Charlie. Sorry for the essay but again Lucifer is a comfort character for me and one of my kins (Alastor is too.)

Lucifer is my favorite tragic character and I am so happy you started to like him towards the end of the episode. I haven't seen many people hate on him but I saw SWEATING watching like oh no. You misunderstand our depressed short king. He's a beautiful mess. I can go on a ramble of all the little details but I will try to keep it short but I won't make sense at some point. xD As we see he wasn't around because he was being kept from Charlie. They were separated and as much as he wanted to connect with her, he tried by having excuses to call her. Needing something or being bored, but not calling enough to "bother" her as he didn't know much about her. She hasn't called him in years taking that she didn't want anything to do with him when they just weren't communicating their actual feelings. Seeing Lucifer at the start and how he desperately wants to talk with her when she calls and gets excited to be invited over you can see Charlie is very much like him with their excitably. It's odd to see them so estranged when they're so alike. He loves her so much but has no idea how to bridge that gap especially when he feels like he's the only one trying and messes up with how he tries to protect her. Accidentally doing what was done onto him with the other angels and that starts to progress through the episode. Though Lucifer has been riddled with depression since his fall, he's trying to do everything to keep Charlie from being like him. Lilith seems to be the real ruler of hell. Lucifer is known throughout hell, but he's a king of a realm he never wanted. He doesn't interact much with the sinners of hell and thus is why he keeps himself essentially locked up making rubber ducks once he and Lilith separated. Charlie's home is hell and she sees nothing but the good in the worse people. While Lucifer is a prisoner reminded of his mistakes daily and only sees the worst of the worst. Despite his creative and playful nature he's very much lost his glow from the fall and his repeated failures to make a hell a better place, but Charlie sure taken it on.

It's interesting to note that one fan theory is that Alastor, who is mixed-race Creole, has some hostility towards Lucifer because he doesn't like that Lucifer was a "dead-beat dad" to Charlie. Alastor was born in the late 1890s or early 1900s, before interracial marriage was legal (much less acceptable), with his mother most likely being a darker-skinned Creole woman, and his father being white. This would also imply that Alastor's own father was a "dead-beat dad" who abandoned he and his mother after he was born, because he didn't want to be associated with a Creole woman and child. I personally think that Alastor sees a lot of his younger self in Charlie, which is why he feels protective of her towards Lucifer. Alastor also doesn't like men.

To me he is not genuine in his protective act toward Charlie. He sees her as means to an end. He manipulates her to gain control over a very powerful entity in hell. Only Lucifer is more powerful than Charlie even if she hasn’t realized her full potential yet. For all we know, there could be an entirely different reason why Alastor and Lilith both disappeared 7 years ago, and Alastor's soul could be owned by someone else. Hmm, wouldn't the fact that chocolate is significantly denser than water make it less likely to sink, and therefore down, in? I might be entirely wrong about this, but I would presume that a denser liquid, although much harder to breath against if one were submerged, would also be much harder to end up submerged in? On the other hand, given that (generally) a liquid transfers heat more efficiently than air, and that chocolate must be kept pretty warm to remain liquid, you'd either be scalded or hyperthermic if dropped into a vat of it. How fast a death that would be would depend on the temperature of the material, but it could certainly be quite a while if it's not that far above body temperature. Lucifer fell into deep depression since he and Lilith separated. It’s one of the reasons why he doesn’t have the best communication with Charlie. Also if we look at Lilith taking Charlie away from Lucifer in the song, it gives a small indication that Lilith probably didn’t even allow Charlie and Lucifer to maintain a relationship… which is odd because the creator of the show says that Lucifer and Lilith love each other very much. Also based on the information about Lucifer on the Hazbin Hotel wiki, Adam fucked up the moment he decided he would come for the hotel. Lucifer’s deal with Heaven states that exorcists may perform an extermination on Sinners only, and must leave Hellbornes alone. Even though everyone staying in the hotel is a Sinner, Charlie is a Hellborne and threatening any harm to her breaks the deal. Edit: I forgot to add, Adam breaking the agreement can lead to so many directions for season two. An all out war between Heaven and Hell can end up happening now that the deal is broken, plus in the very last scene we hear Lute talk about a deal between Heaven and Lilith that involved Adam’s life. I feel like there’s big plans in store and I’m excited to see what Viv gives us!

In episode five alastor never auctually really cared about being charlie father figure, he just wanted to get under lucifers skin. Also in the song hells greatest dad there both trying to minipulate Charlie . Alastor is trying to minipulate her by showing her what he has done for her and lucifer is trying to minipulate her by showing her what he can do for her. Love your Vids!☺️

I swear some people fail to see their parents as people like themselves, they suffer too and they don't always know what's best or have all the answers, just because you've reached parenthood doesn't mean you're the most capable person for the job, all they can do is try their best.
