years ago I remember reading about Neanderthals and how there is fossil evidence of them eating each others bone marrow, there was a theory that proposed that it could have been a sort of ritual funeral practice, like consuming and carrying the souls of your ancestors, rather than just basic cannibalism. This all seems similar to what was happening with the weirwoods in the past and I wouldn't be surprised to find that all these horror stories we hear about Skagos turn out to be misunderstandings of something much more ritualistic and magical

You really are bringing light into this world… literally. Not literal light… but you are literally bringing the metaphorical light into the lives of so many (I assume) and I am one of them. Through the medium of KZbin videos and live streams usually talking about game of thrones, dance of dragons, etc. But I’ve said it before. My favorite part is the parts of yourselves, you and your fellows, your good vibes, good example of respectful, loving, caring, honest, self loving, examples you provide for everyone. Sorry when you talked about the last pet of your game in a bit more detail this video I thought about how literal it is that you changed your destiny or grabbed hold of it and at least from my perspective that I’m trying to share with you, and literally brought light into the lives of so many.

Great stream, good sets! And dayum, GWT sounded good, congrats on the new equipment! More backing for LmL’s thoughts around 1:20:00-1:24:00 ish about the horned moon pointing to the Skagosi & their goats helping overthrow the Freys-along with sacrifice, we figured out during bookclub two weeks back that the horned moon (& tributes to it) is meant to protect against the Evil Eye (which your Catelyn quote has Walder Frey acting as through the murder hole). Also, unicorns are also meant to be protective forces… and in the Last Unicorn they stampede out of the sea when Amalthea frees them while King Haggard’s tower crumbles into dark water… so waves of horns & hooves from across the sea are about to quench another gross old man’s skeevy stares. Keep up the awesome work! Really looking forward to the Cannibal stream!

The 3 Eyed Crow is the shadow mind inside the tree, which acts through, but independently of, Bloodraven. This is why Bloodraven was unaware of the interactions between Bran and the 3 Eyed Crow. Bloodraven watched Bran, and sent Jojen & Myra, while the 3 Eyed Crow was teaching/changing Bran, and wants him to explore the Stark crypt.

I believe I read somewhere in a GRRM interview that Holding the door means something different but similar. Hodor has a sword and Bran has been practicing swordplay in Hodors body and this is preparing Hodor to "Hold The Door", or, in Martins words, "Hold this pass" against enemies.
@GreyWasteTimАй бұрын
I didn't have a good answer for the Freyja myth stuff, but after time to marinate on the Others as former Green Men idea - all the dead tree symbolism in the sigils seem to point to that. We know the seasons are messed up and so would the seasonal changes for trees (Green leaf weirwoods?) Leaves brown in the autumn, fall off in winter, grow back in spring and turn lush in summer. The Others as Green Men are like trees that died in winter. Their leaves never grew back, and they are perpetually frozen. Points more to what lays at the Heart of Winter? Probably a great dead frozen tree with a body buried beneath, tangled in the roots, it's spirit haunting the WW net. The Others as a hive mind are also like the physical manifestation of that spirit's will.

Possible Manderly issue: he pledges his fealty to Rickon, and as much as he may want to support Jon, he's the kind of guy that believes in an oath and has to support Rickon if there is a fallout.
@Kaine_Gardner3 күн бұрын
He swore an oath to Robb. Oaths generally include swearing to obey heirs/successors, if Robbs will is revealed then Jon is his heir plain and simple. I agree with these guys on it. Manderly will not stand against Jon and I don’t think he will need to if Rickon doesn’t press his claim which he may not.

1:13:47 David Lightbringer I was thinking more about the Elden Ring stream; in particular the bit about Ranni the Witch being a spirit with no body that manipulates a doll with magic. The Others also seem to be spirits that use ice magic to give themselves bodies. That lead to the question: “What would their original bodies have been?” And, I think the most obvious answer if the weirwoods. They were literal tree spirits, the faces of trees, like the one in the Blackgate. The original Green Men were the trees faces.
@jenniferarmstrong8879Ай бұрын
Lol, I drafted this it notes and pasted the title of my note, “David Lightbringer” The previous comment seems super aggressive now 😅
@jenniferarmstrong8879Ай бұрын
To add on, Azor Ahai sets the trees on fire in order to get the green men out of the trees. And then he kills Nissa Nissa, using her blood as part of a virtual, which would also probably involve carving a new face into the weirwood(s). It mirrors the catspaw assassin, setting the library on fire and then giving Cat the weirwood stigmata

So when Lewin goes into the crypts with Bran they pass quite a few tombs before they get to Ned's. He mentions Jon Stark first, that's quite a long time ago. Also Ned sees some swords were rusted away when he goes to visit Liana's tomb with Robert. I wonder if the crypts have a tree-like structure. Because we know the oldest Starks are in the deepest levels, but Ned's isn't the last grave either. So if it was like a burried tree and Ned's tomb was in a branch and the oldest Starks were in the roots and the door was somewhere in the trunk, it would work, you'd have to pass some pretty old tombs to get to the newest tombs in a branch.

I came to the conclusion that Rickon will be Bran's heir a while ago, because I have a different view of the ramifications of Shaggy Dog's name. The point of a Shaggy dog story is not that it's ending is meaningless, the point is that it goes on and on and on, and therefore it's ending is less important than its length. So Rickon naming his wolf Shaggy Dog doesn't foreshadow his meandering life leading to a pointless death, it foreshadows his story going on beyond the the narrative of the novels. Btw, I suspect that Bran will be king of the North and the Riverlands with Rickon as his heir by the end of the story, not the Seven Kingdoms. But this will be very important because the worship of the old gods is strongest in the North and the Riverlands and the power of the old gods will see a resurgence under Bran. I don't think that the institutions of the Iron Throne or a royal house will survive the Long Night. I suspect by the end of the story most of the Seven Kingdoms will rule themselves, perhaps under the guidance of a Stark or old gods hegemony.

What if Bran and Rickon are a parallel of Romulus and Remus? Romulus would be Bran and Remus would be Rickon, they are essentially raised by the wild (Bran less so but he does gets picked up by BR). The arc would result in Rickon going dark and being a bad guy warg and Bran having to kill him.

Considering the themes of Martin's writing within asoiaf, I think that the Manderly's motivation is altruistic. The Freys and Boltons did a bad thing, and the Manderly's are going to do what they can to right things. Now, you might be thinking, "How can that be? Don't only bad things happen in asoiaf, a grimly realistic depiction of the impossibility of good to prevail over evil?" The answer is that good things CAN happen in asoiaf... but they come at a cost. The Manderly's will surely not survive the series because this altruistic path has been chosen, but their sacrifice will pave the way for a better ending to be possible.
