What is there to say here? It's the Mythical Astronomy Ned Stark episode. The Blood of the Other series is all about House Stark, so you know we have to talk about the Ned.
Intro music by Stanley Black, flamenco guitar by John Walsh.
Cover art: "The Lord of Winterfell" by Michael Komarck

Brandon Stark bloody sword penetrating lady Dustin (only Barbrey Ryswell at the time of the deed), and she speaks of sweet pain (a little bit of agony and ecstasy); man, when you start to think about it is really on the nose!...

Sweet! I was listening to an earlier podcast with you and IOIAF just a little bit ago. Thanks for all of your studios work, man! I really dig the depth of the different perceptions and angles you take. You're able to articulate the source of the source material and draw the imagination into the intersection of the real world catalyst and the enriched fantasy. It's like GRRM looked at the stars, fathomed a universe and did just like the ancients...made a grand story that we all love and try to understand. Again, thanks! I dig the content!

Thanks, man! Just a side note, I always called my wife, My Sleepy Eyed Star. Just as a nickname. She always had beautiful, Sleepy eyes and she brought light to my darkness. We would watch meteor showers together and eventually we had "our star".What's interesting is that it turned out to be Venus. The Evening Star. The light bringer. My Sleepy Eyed Star. Lol, now she's my EvenStar and the universe is a beautiful place.

I haven't watched this video...but full marks for a truly amusing title. --------------------- I wrote the above comment some time ago. I finally got around to starting to watch this video. I clicked "start", only to be met by music which I recollected all too clearly. The film from which this music is taken, I saw in a large old style theatre upon its original release in 1975. The only time in my life when I had to lie on the floor of a theatre, in pain, real pain, because I was laughing so much. Don't know who is made this video....but I like them.

What I love about Ned is that the tough lessons he teaches his children are to keep them safe and strong. This is different from other "tough father teachers" examples like Lord Tarly and Tywin . These father's teach toughening lessons so their children don't embarrass the family, not to keep their kids strong. You're Killin it LML.

Speaking of wolves rescuing babies, have you heard of the Turkic legend of the She-Wolf (Asena or Ashina) who rescues a kid and bears his children? It's the origin story for one of the major Turkic clans from back in the days when the Turks lived on the Mongolian steppe (before the Mongols took over centuries later). I'm not an expert, but the basic story is: Enemies attack and slaughter a village or a clan, except for the baby prince. Instead, they hack off the baby prince's hands (Weirwood stigmata parallel, maybe?) and feet and leave him to die. But a she-wolf finds him, drags him to safety, and suckles him. (In some versions of the story, IIRC, a raven actually helps by being the 1st to find the prince and then leading the she-wolf to him...That's the Wusun version of the story, I think? Not sure. Fact check me.) When the prince gets older, he starts mating with the wolf--and actually impregnates her. Around this time, the enemies find out the prince is still alive, and they hunt down the handless, footless prince and murder him...But the pregnant wolf escapes--to a freakin' cave, where she gives birth to a litter of kids, who become badass metallurgists / blacksmiths and go on to found the new Turkic people. It's not a perfect analogue for rescuing the Other Baby, but I think it's interesting given that the main rescuer House (the Starks) called wolves and (three-eyed) ravens. And the presence of caves, hand amputations, and blacksmiths is intriguing, though I'm not at all sure what that means for ASoIaF.

Hey LML do you think that there is any connection between Azor Ahai and the fire giant Surtr of Norse mythology, Surtr wields a flaming sword and burns the whole world after a three year winter. The flaming sword and three years of winter sounds a lot like lightbringer and the long night, and the burning of world seems to be further evidence that AA was a bad guy.
@DavidLightbringer
@DavidLightbringer 6 жыл бұрын
Yer damn right I think there are intentional parallels there! All the things you said... plus, Martin draws so much from Norse myth and Ragnarok, and right there in the middle is this bad dude with a flaming sword... yeah it's definitely one of several myths that Martin is drawing from to create his Azor Ahai figure, and yes, I'd say it's another clue that he might not be the hero we think. Maybe an anti-hero, who knows.

The NK is descendant of the Starks ..He was the 13 Lord Commander of the NW and was a Stark..Brandon the Breaker...the one who defeated the previous NK[with the help of Joramun King of the Wildings] ..and taken hi place making a pax with the Others ..He was also the Last Hero of story or the Azor Ahai who sacrificed his Red Priestess or Children of the Forest Wife for the first Lightbringer .
