As a Parisian myself I got pleasure in just watching everyone in the video appreciating the various sweel/salty specialities. I even got a couple of new places to experience. What I may add to the comments is the following. About what you show as CREPE. Of course you find this a bit everywhere as street food because quick to prepare… but… a CREPE (made with wheat flour) is generally stuffed with something sweet (honey, jam, freshly melt chocolate, etc) unlike GALETTE which is prepared with buckwheat flour (top for gluten free people) which are indeed stuffed with salty ingredients (endless list: ham, grated cheese, mushrooms, onions, andouille, egg, braised leaks with bacon and bechamel…) To appreciate these differences, nothing best than having a dinner by a Creperie where they served galettes as main dish and crêpes as dessert. One word now about what you call APERO. Although the cheese you had might be found in some families, apero is more often made with wines and aperitives like pastis, port, aperol spritz, than are usually accompanied by a large selection of mini snacks that preceed the dinner: salted or spicely coated peanuts/almonds/cajus…, various crisps, black/white olives, various types and sizes of saucissons, bites of pâtés/terrines spread on Parisian crispy baguette, guacamole with tortilla chips, etc. Etc. Thank you for your videos :-)

I visited Paris at the start of June and was blown away with the food and wine!! Stayed in 17th ARR. after watching your channel. I have become a total croissant snob and have not found anything that matches Paris croissants in the UK 😂 Love the channel. Thanks for the excellent information.

I am glad for you Philip. I would say that NOTHING matches the quality of French pastries in the UK. If you love cakes and pastries I recommend you to visit Sicily for its superb cannoli and Vienna for everything sweet. PS: Forget about the overrated "Sacher torte", there are much nicer cakes in Vienna!

If you're going to France and are going to eat croissants, you have to get the ones that are made with only butter as the fat. Every decent croissant or pâtisserie in France will be "pur beurre" so many do not actually state this (some may have signs stating this). This is a major difference between French pâtisserie and industrialized US pastry that fills the shelves of Costco and discount grocery stores. The cheaper US stuff uses hydrogenated soybean, palm or other oils. French croissants look and taste wonderful because real butter browns beautifully and is a natural emulsification of water and fat, which gives just the right conditions to create a flaky dough. The flour in France is also better quality and contains its natural yeasts, which is why you can get wonderful baguette with little or no additives, as it often has been at least partially hand-kneaded and proofed. This is actually rare to find in USA. Outside of the large cities there are great boulangeries and pâtisseries that offer great stuff shown here.
@OnlyGrans693 ай бұрын
I've been to France countless times and I don't think I've ever had a (fresh) croissant without real french butter lol? That's exclusively a non-european thing as far as I'm aware.
@tiamarrow63662 ай бұрын
I was watching another French KZbinr’s video on the best croissants in France and he actually said that unfortunately a majority of the croissants in at least Paris are made in factories not by hand, with pure butter as the fat. So you really have to find any real French bakery that has made by hand croissants.
@bengt_axle2 ай бұрын
@@tiamarrow6366 The lamination (interleaving of butter and dough) is always done by machine -- even when they are rolled by hand. This allows large tiles of butter to be used in a machine that does the work of rolling repeatedly, without heating up the dough and melting the butter. If you'd like to learn more, @KrisKazlauskaite is a professional baker and has an entire channel devoted to croissant and patisserie! I believe, according to French consumer law, a boulangerie is a place where the dough is made on the premises (and then baked), while a "fournil" can be a place where dough manufactured off-site, is just baked and sold fresh.

O my...I think I would be in trouble if I get shipped to France. Cheese doesn't agree with me. However...the steak and fries would definitely work...just as long as no cheese is sprinkled on it. That's awesome that the fries are cooked in beef fat rather than highly processed canola oil...and I always appreciate high quality steak. 😊 Thanks for sharing Lucile.

Whenever I'm in Paris, Monoprix 3:40 is usually my first choice to pick up some really nice, fresh food with reasonable price. And believe it or not for a native New Yorker, Monoprix check out cashiers are friendly. When I'm in a hurry, cashiers are also quit fast (as in purchase process). My friend loves the huge and extremely affordable wine list and price when compared to Costco prices. When you have a chance, please do a Paris popular supermarket comparisons. Like Monoprix vs Franprix vs Carrefour etc. My personal favorite neighborhood "tiny" supermarket is La Récolte Beaubourg at 43 Rue Beaubourg. Because the staffs are super nice and I love their ultra sweet grapes.

Definitely go to Old Nice and get some socca for a good snack. Kind of like pieces of pancake, made from chick pea/garbanzo bean flour, olive oil, and likely some secret aromatic herbs. To be sure, try it with fresh ground black pepper. Also, Pan Bagnat at a beach cafe. It's sort of like a tuna sandwich, only super deluxe. So good, and so very much Nice, but be aware that it will have anchovy fillets in it. Make sure to try it that way, it is so delicious, and a little bit messy to eat, as there is a lot of olive oil & vinegar in it! Pan Bagnat = Bathed Bread. Look up the pronunciation before you order it, because it is not English phonetic, kind of Pa(with a barely heard nasal N) Banya. You can thank me later!

I was very surprised, but I think I saw a Canadian cheese in there. Quebec makes a lot of nice craft cheeses, but I am surprised France would want to import pasteurized cheese. I remember having a conversation with a French man who said pasteurization ruined the flavour. I was surprised the sandwich you bought had only meat and butter without any toppings like veggies. The best fries I've had in my life were in France.
