Ladies! This is just one bouchée away from being foodporn 🤭 I asked a French friend why baguettes are so crusty and she told me this story (read it with a young, French, female voice in your head): In the city of Biarritz there was once a beautiful French girl (aren't they all?) who fell in love with a boy that her father, a famous baker, did not approve of. The baker conspired with his friend the local magistrate and had the boy thrown into prison on made up charges. The girl, who worked in her father's boulangerie, was distraught but hatched a plan to help her lover escape. One day she made up a sandwich: the finest olive oil drizzled on a fresh baguette, the best ham from Bayonne and topped with thin slices of Pyrénées Brebis cheese. Wrapping a sheet of paper around the sandwich she set off for the prison, fluttered her eyelashes at the guard and got him to deliver the sandwich to her lover. The boy, who was starving - prison food, even in France, not being the best - devoured the sandwich but saved the crusty top slice. Later that night he used it to saw through the steel bars on his cell window, escaped and the two lovers eloped across the border to Spain where they lived happily ever after! And that is why a true French baguette is so crusty! Handy Hint: when eating a baguette sandwich ALWAYS turn it upside down so the crustiest side is against your tongue - the roof of your mouth will be forever thankful.

Croissant is my fav pastry ever, but I also love apple pie. I didn't know it was a classic pie there, we also love it in Spain. It's funny because the pain au chocolat is called "napolitana", at least in the Basque Country xD you can find it stuffed with chocolate or pastry cream (I supose you also have it with that). I am learning French, I hope I can visit Paris or any places soon and speak with the natives. Merci beaucoup pour la vidéo :D

FYI you’re pronouncing macaron wrong in English. A macaroon is a different item made mostly of coconut. You don’t need to change the pronunciation of macaron at all for English speakers. That’s how we say it if we say it properly. The reason it’s important is many English speakers say macaroon because they don’t know the difference and if they hear a French speaker saying it, it will reinforce the incorrect pronunciation because of your authority. It’s been an ongoing struggle since macarons became popular with people calling them macaroons and the two items almost couldn’t be more different.
