Calleegirl I remember growing up and watching every Emmy and Academy Awards Show. I was a Tv and Movie buff since I was 12. I love Lucy for sure, and I also remember this broadcast. This is before I knew how Lucy and Desi changed the face of Television. For the last two years I have not watched any of the award shows. I can tell you what happened, people stopped disciplining their children, we started rewarding people for bad behavior, they started giving drugs to children to control them, we stopped making children obey the rules and criminals obey the law. We elect officials based on their looks and charm instead of their ability to do the work. We started letting people with very little knowledge make the big decisions. Alexander Pope once said, “a little learning is a dangerous thing. This world is going to hell fast. Let an uneducated 15 year old girl living in the projects get pregnant and then give her a welfare check, food stamps and a free apartment is rewarding bad behavior but guess what, she learned it from her mother and grandmother and so on and so forth. That’s what’s happened!!

I can honestly say, Lucille Ball has made me laugh my entire life. I remember being very young in the mid 60’s, and it was always a treat to watch whatever show she was in. My bedtime was 9 pm, except on Monday night. I was allowed to stay up until 9:30 to watch Lucy. I was sad when “Here’s Lucy” ended, but it was probably time. I Love Lucy is probably the best comedy television ever produced, and I can only imagine, will still be on 100 years from now. Her comedy is timeless and joyful. Not like today where everything is vulgar. She was, and still is a national treasure. I remember her last public appearance, a few weeks before her death, at the Oscar show. She looked like a million bucks, and then she was gone. Her kind of talent comes around once in a lifetime and we’re all the better for laughing along with her. My favorite episode, that still has me laughing like it’s the first time, every time, “Hollywood at Last”. Who wouldn’t laugh at the scenes between she and William Holden? Her nose going up in flames? Pure genius. I think I’ve gone on too long, but I’m a fan, as should everyone else.

John, I am probably about the same age as you. I was born in 1961 and started watching Lucy in the mid 1960s as well. Starting in 1967 I LOVE LUCY reruns started on my local WNEW-TV Channel 5 at 7pm weeknights. THE LUCY DESI HOUR ran for a few years on the same channel in the late 60s and early 70s at 9pm Sunday nights. THE LUCY SHOW began reruns on CBS Daytime at 10am, and HERE'S LUCY ran 1968-74 Monday nights on CBS.

She was so ahead of her time. Without her, there would be no Star Trek. Without her nobody would have seen a Cuban man married to an American woman in 1950's America. Sexism, an abusive marriage, unsupportive social norms, she obliterated it all for herself, and left a trail for other women to do the same. A true legend, she laid claim to one of America’s most beloved syndicated comedy shows, ran her own television studio, and did it all with class, grace, wit, and humor. Lucille Ball is, and will forever more, be one of the greatest business executives, philanthropists, and entertainers to ever walk this earth. May she rest in peace. 👏🏽

Angel Rios one of the most insightful comments about Lucy I’ve ever read, she. Did overcome so much and made a place for herself - the very top. Her only pitfall was to fall in love with a very flawed human being who had to lose , desi couldn’t shake his poor beginning , it stayed with him because subconsciously kept trying to return there. Deep down he felt he didn’t deserve a perfect life that he himself made for himself . Lucy was grateful but she knew she earned it . She died with a man who stood by her , a man who never left her down , a man she wasn’t in love with, there wasn’t a day Lucy didn’t hurt over desi although her tough upbringing told her to stop it and move on. It was still in her heart as she smokes her anxiety about it away but it never went away. It left her bitter at times.

I never cried when hearing about the passing of a celebrity, but I did cry when Lucille Ball died. My family grew up watching her. She indeed had a special place in all our hearts. A tear comes to my eye just writing about her. I love Lucy :)

Have loved Lucy my entire life. Her show was syndicated when I was a kid and on Sunday it was on 3 different times! I know every episode by heart but still watch occasionally today, and am still discovering things I didn't notice before. Have learned over the years that all four of them were amazing comedic actors. But Lucy made it happen, I Love Lucy ❤️

Here was an entertainer and a force in showbiz who did as much behind the scenes as she did in front of the camera as Lucy Ricardo. We can't underestimate her contributions to television in the 1950's and 1960's. Many people know about her accomplishments beyond her iconic sitcom, but some don't know that she saved Star Trek from a very premature cancellation. That's just one thing Lucy did during her career at Desilu, a company she would eventually run solo (while doing a second sitcom every week). She knew quality as soon as she saw it, and she seemed to know what the viewing audience would take a shine to. Quite a special lady.
