God, Manhattan so many stories. I worked there most of my early life, visited friends who lived there, my father and his wife lived there, I lived there with my second husband. My son was born there at New York Hospital, we lived there about 3 years and we moved to Bayside, NY. Then life got interesting and then things fell apart.
@maggierichter95442 жыл бұрын
Quite right, Deborah! Without descriptive violence, foul language and 'below the belt`scenes, Mary Higgins Clark rose to become the world's number 1 thriller writer. That's an awesome achievement. And it should, actually, give second thoughts to all those authors of this genre, who feel they can`t do WITHOUT the above.... Mary was a graceful AND grateful lady who loved life and people; an attitude, or way of life, which found its way in all her writings. She died in 2022, at 92. Her latest novels, though co-authored with skilled suspense writer Alafair Burke, still bear that unforgetable "Mary Higgins Clark style". I shall miss her books; as yet I have not found a thriller writer who might take her place....

the question I am asking myself is : what had Nora's husband to do with the woman who cashed the lottery ticket? if she was a client (insurance), why is she calling him home after hours and asking him to show up in her place(in half an hour)?why would the manager(the criminal) say that Bill saw Jack and talked to him for a while and seemed excited (about something)when, Jack was not even there and could refute it (if asked)? a lot of inconsistencies!

If I saw my husband eating lunch in front of a restaurant window with an attractive woman who put her hand on his arm when he said he was at the library doing research I wouldn't run away crying. I'd get to the bottom of it. Could be innocent. So just go into the restaurant, get a table and act surprised when you pass the two and introduce yourself and flesh out the situation. All that drama would have been avoided if she just confronted the husband.

OK! I'm gonna nitpick a little bit. I don't know the procedures in the States but a ticket with such a jackpot is going to come under some scrutiny especially from the good old IRS. I read somewhere along the line that alot of these big winners end up filing for bankruptcy within ca. five years. But then we wouldn't have a story would we? As usual well done - GREAT!
@christinabernat67092 жыл бұрын
In the US we pay taxes on lottery winnings over a certain amount. But even if it was 50%, they would have 7 mil., which in those days (the 80s as I see it) that would be equivalent to a lot more today, so they made out well. Yes, a LOT of winners lose it all, but not all. Some actually manage it beautifully, and yes, they ARE a small percentage of the winners. .
