Lucky escape for this BMW E92 M3 owner!

With a fantastic 174,000 miles on this 2009 BMW E92 M3, the new owner wanted to replace the Conrod Bearings straight away for peace of mind.
Wow, wasn't that the right decision!
Check out the excessive wear on these Conrod Bearings and not to mention the contraction plus the delamination!
It wouldn't have been long before one of these bearings failed and wrecked the Crankshaft.

Great work as usual James👌 …. Shame the all your hard work was in vane as the last one has the damage, bet the owner will be so pissed his crank needs sorting & to do so will be a full engine strip!😢

I'm assuming you're going to put new bearings in and that one bearing with the damage will wear out faster

Hey I'm wondering if the crankshaft and main oil pump are still within spec in this car? I’m swapping out the original bearings in my S85 with 113k km. Found scratched crankshaft and the main oil pump makes tiny noise when spinning. Bearings show copper layer just slightly. Don’t know if mine is still saveable

Is it just the high revving n’asp M engines that suffer from this? Or should diesel and petrol turbo owners prepare themselves for a chunky bill as well?

Well is it really a lucky escape ? The crank will need to be ground at a minimum - that's if it's even possible [if that gouge is too deep it won't be]. Either way, you can't install a fresh bearing on that journal and put it back together.
