Another great video showing you and your crews skills in crazy narrow streets. If you haven’t already done one we missed it would be great to see a segment from the pilot car as they look after the rear steer on the trailer. I am sure it is an art in itself. Cheers from Australia.

Load and engine, especially in 😂the hills and jacking, as when the engine pulls less an automatic usually shift up, going downhill you have to shift down manually to get the rpm up for maximum engine brake performance. Thanks for another video, enjoying it.

Hi Doug, You always wonder why they don't run the ship up to Montreal. APL goes there. Definitely a darned-sight easier than rolling through PA with all those lovely, picturesque towns with all those charming low-hanging wires and low bridges. LOL. Enjoy the sunshine.

From what i understand the runs the APL ships are on make it more economical for the to come to our pier where they are offloading much more freight then just coming to Montreal to unload the train cars.

I saw the space shuttle enterprise hauled down the middle of 5 lane highway. From Palmdale to Edward's back and forth, publicity stunt just to fix the tiles on it and get a wash it was dirty. Hundreds of people moving it, it was a huge parade at 2 miles an hour, tow trucks moving vehicles all night, set temp paper no parking signs up. Power Co to raise lines up. Workers raising stoplights up or removing them. Took em hours to re open road. 😊😊😊😊😊😊😊 it's pretty big up close. I'd help moving be excavators etc.

I grew up watching Silk Road Specialized come thru my home town hauling old beat-up subway cars on their big oversized trailers back in the early 80s. i remember the NYSP comin thru and blocking the road so the big trucks had room to turn. Stuff like that is what got me hooked on trucks and trucking. At almost 50 years old I would still give anything to get my CDL. Closest I have ever come was driving an M1A1 Abrams for the US Army lol!! You Make it look so much easier that they did back then. But trailer technology has come a long way since the early 80s!

Always enjoyed heavy haul and over dimensional, they were a challenge to secure properly and get the weights just right, anyone can steer a truck with a van and automatic. Just thinking with the icy roads and extreme cold a couple of weeks ago that the trucks in trouble were usually pulling vans. Not much planning on bad conditions. Seems they would rather be in the ditch than put a chain on. Cheers my friend.

Please note at around @39:07 you can see the Rexall Drug store coming up on the right with their collapsible sidewalk sign suggesting flu shots et al. Please note what appears to be new construction/reno of the building to the left and it seems to be matched to those that are decaying…..decaying is a harsh word…..why don’t we try those that might be falling down……yes, that’s better. Please remember, this short Canadian Santa is maneuvering this train-car through a historical downtown district. What does Taylor Swift want? Well she loves Doug because he reminds her of her great-grandfather. 😎 Look @42:07....insane maneuverability! *I'm not an officer or an employee of Douglas Shipping, Inc. The rim that broke, how often do things like that happen? Just a salt/rust/age thing or extra stress due to that type of load?
@luckybananaheavyhaul3407
@luckybananaheavyhaul3407 8 ай бұрын
The rim was an age related failure. Some of this equipment isn’t new anymore. We keep up the maintenance on wear parts like tires and brakes but it can be hard to predict metal fatigue. Even structurally these trailers all have a certain life span and after the metal gets weak. Every time we drive down the road the metal is condtantly flexing and well you know what happens to a soda can if you flex it a few times. I’ve seen some pretty scary structural failures over the years.

When I’m not driving a truck I’m usually floating in a fishing boat. Superstitious fisherman will try and tell you bananas are unlucky. Hence Lucky Banana.

I've never understood freight. It's great for your business but it perplexes me that these can't be shipped closer than New Jersey (or Baltimore where a lot of your heavy equipment seems to end up). Seems like trucking them from the Port of Quebec or Montreal would be easier unless those ports can't handle that type of load. But that also would seem odd seeing as Duluth MN get's all kinds of heavy cargo including Wind Turbine blades, towers.

@luckybananaheavyhaul3407 8 ай бұрын
The ships that go into New Jersey and Baltimore are enormous. They don’t take time to stop at every little port along the coast. They only stop at a few key distribution points. For example wind towers are usually shipped on much smaller boats and the one stop will offload the bulk of their cargo so it is worth it for them to go directly to destination.

Because there were more curves ahead and I know from experience if you give people half a chance they won’t let you back over when you need to. If people let trucks over when they put their turn signal on I wouldn’t need to be selfish. When I put my turn signal on I don’t just “want” to move over. I “need” to move over.

I'm a bit surprised you've got the one guy that hardly speaks any English. Not to sound like a bigot or anything, but I'd rather think that passable English would be a prerequisite for the job (along with Spanish if you range that far south), since your outfit seems to operate all across North America (I'm assuming your escorts are company guys and not third-party contractors). I also thought the majority of French Canadians were fully bilingual, is that not the case? For that matter, is French that common outside Quebec? I've always been under the impression that despite having official dual national languages, only about 40% of Canadians were multilingual or spoke languages other than English, and French Canadians were a generally more of a minority outside Quebec and parts of British Columbia. Could someone enlighten me on this?

Québec culture has evolved a lot over the last few decades. There is a big difference between my generation and the older generations. The younger, new generations seem to realize the advantages of being bilingual. Unfortunately not so long ago Quebec culture was very segregated and the older generations were either English or French but the two did not mix.
@RedneckCowboyFeller

@@luckybananaheavyhaul3407 Huh. I knew that historically the French Canadians had their own separate culture and had no intention of fully assimilating or melding with the collective, much like your First Nations tribes (can't say as I entirely blame them, either; they were there first, right?), but I hadn't realized they were that segregated. I thought they at least got along and communicated, maybe mixed a little here and there. Been on this planet over four decades, and I still learn something new every day. Thanks for taking the time to explain.
