What I cannot fathom is why management just didn't investigate anyway, she was absolutely no threat to them provided they followed procedures they wouldn't have been sued by her if she had been innocent. It sounds to me that they didn't want the way was run to be inspected for something so serious but brushing it under the carpet would have got them into even more hot water - management should have known that.

@@BigBoomOfDoom2 Of course they have 'power' over the patient. But the vast majority of healthcare workers do not get into the profession to exercise such perceived power over others - at least not those on the ground or in the main. @@BigBoomOfDoom2 And yes they should still be vetted. My concern was with the statement "Healthcare is absolutely filled with narcissists and even psychopaths." Again, depends on where this is directed. The police investigated the case as instructed by the doctors & consultants. These doctors & consultants were suspects. Since when in any murder enquiry has the person/persons reporting the crime been discounted as a suspect before police even reach the crime scene? Their potential negligence or the possibility that they may have been the murderer was never investigated.

I disagree, while at the same time disagreeing that it could have been detected after 2 babies died. It is not common for 5 babies to die in a facility like that, within that time span. No, it's not common. But 1 or 2 babies deaths are not enough to raise suspicions. Nevertheless, there were 7 dead babies and some 8 others that were almost dead. That is a too large number of incidents to be overlooked. Shame on the system for not allowing managers to be accountable. They were more interested in protecting her than in raising suspicions. That tells you how far we went in terms of protecting workers. Someone has to pay the price for overprotection of employees. In this case it was the children and the families. You can't have it all. When the Law is so worried about worker's rights, someone has to lose at the other end. It's a closed bubble: you can't give rights to one side and not restrict the rights on the other end. @@StellaKnights

Because so much was invested in trying to help these extremely poorly Babies regain some health, this could have been interpreted as a signal for Lucy to see a way to cause harm ..... undetected ? No, for me, it is too big a stretch to imagine that Lucy would use the failings of a Hospital System as "cover" for her crimes. And, then there is the knowledge that her own birth was difficult......ok, so why did Lucy not use this in her Defence..."Oh, i did so and so because i had a difficult start in life".....as so many criminals do........why did Lucy do her best to defend herself and her actions at work when she could easily have claimed "No Comment"....again, as do many criminals.....makes them seem all the more guilty in my book. You might argue that Lucy tried to make herself look more innocent by NOT using the "No Comment" routine....but why would she risk making a poor showing in her own strength ?? Doesn't stack up for me.........has anyone explored the possibility, however remote, that Lucy may have had Medication herself whilst at work.....seems outlandish i know, but there is a reference in her Diary to collecting a Prescription.....for what ? Also an eye appointment........curious.

An almost more important question is how and why did managers fail? Internal politics seems to have been a key cause of management failure to act with what should have been lightning speed. Refusal to take internal politics seriously seems to have been lethal It appears some managers were in the process of covering up something they felt would be a disaster for the image of the hospital, if the truth came out. I'm unconvinced. It's more likely the motivation was that if the truth were known, how it would reflect on them. Job protection is one of the key objectives of internal politics. The NHS suffers from thousands of internal alliances between managers and staff forming small, in effect cancerous internal corporations, working for objectives alien to its aims and ideals

All parents need to file a class-action lawsuit against hospital management, nurse manager of unit, and others who ignored doctor's concerns. Lucy was the "perfect storm" for turning into a psychopathic killer. Perhaps she was a selfish only child with entitlement, manipulation behaviors, lack of empathy for others, always the center of attention, need for drama, and she chose a profession where she could exercise God-like power and control over innocent babies. And did she want the attention of the one doctor that came to the unit when babies needed emergency care that she said she loved but "only friends"? Was there an affair between the nurse and doc?

I disagree, with all respect. The easiest way to detect psychopaths is not through the studying of their potential motivations but through the study of their modus operandi. The motivations are endless, on the specific level (vengeance for a past act, hate towards a specific population, etc.) and too diffuse on the upper level (envy, selfishness, power craving, frustration, egocentrism) to be able to be useful. The modus operandi are much, much more limited and visible. I advise you to read "The Gift of Fear" by Gavin de Beker. If you study the modus operandi you have the best methods to detect them. Not by engaging in highly subjective, redundant, debates on motivation. We all know the basic motivators for these individuals: need for power/dominance; crave for stimulation; deviant sexual desire; compensation for childhood frustration/trauma.

It's too important not to consider when building cases and prosecuting in my opinion,. I fear 'not needing a motive' being a philosophy will prevent people asking the deep and needed questions in a world with so many smokes and mirrors because we never know if in 30 years time we come to discover the story wasn't what we thought or made it appear so. U never know.

I’m so DISGUSTED the way they are still victimising this murderer by making excuses about split personality and all of this BS because she’s a ‘vanilla’ white women. She had a choice not to face the victims, who will be scarred for life and when a DOCTOR of colour reported her, the management reprimanded the doctors, possibly causing further deaths by delaying her arrest. Everyone should be ashamed and disgusted by the way this absolute murderous monster has got off LIGHTLY.

The clinicians also need to own this: In June 2015 evidence of criminal intent was recorded in the clinical notes of the baby who died unexpectedly. The standard clinical review of the records should have but didn't see it. Had they done so it would have triggered the police investigation at that point. Not until the police requested that the records be reviewed in Feb 2018 was this evidence found. This is the signal. Everything else is imo just noise. The evidence was the insulin level. The lay person who'd seen a couple of episodes of Miss Marple would have tracked this down before 2 years and 8 months had elapsed.

IF and when the spoken about 'inquiry' takes place, the most important things we need to remember and note include: [1] An inquiry must begin "as soon as possible" whilst the facts and documentation are ALL available. Usually court papers are stored away after three months and to retrieve them costs about £100 per page and-who is to be blamed when CRUCIAL documents disappear? [2] Such formal inquiry must be strictly conducted as per the UK Inquiry Statute, regardless of time taken in total because much will be revealed, notwithstanding the fact the the UK is in fact number three among top 'rogue states' in the world. [3] Over decades the NHS has cost hundreds of Billions of Pounds. Since we are not the sickest nation in the World, nor the largest in number, much of this money's travels has been obscured by crooked high-level accountants. [4] An inquiry will reveal the extent of counterfeited medical notes; exact deaths with exact causes in maternity sections of UK hospitals; total number of still-borns in the UK annually; total number of neonatal deaths annually within the whole of the UK. [5] Administrators are quick to say that medical records cannot be altered but that is after they have been composed by incompetent nurses and signed of by laxadaisical doctors. [6] There needs to be FRESH NEW UNIFORM Policies and Procedures within ALL HOSPITALS IN THE UNITED KINGDOM, Mental Health & Care Homes for very ill patients and maternity hospitals, etc. ALL MEDICAL NOTES IN THIS COUNTRY HAVE NOT BEEN CORRECTLY SCANNED IN AND COMPUTER RECORDS MADE FOR EACH UK CITIZEN. Nurses and doctors can play God with people's lives and we would be none the wiser. [7 ] There must be uniform publicly-made Policies and Procedures for all staff in NHS Hospitals against the Conflict of Intrest possible when they commit adultery with another Member of Staff and must declare their interest in formal forms when they become maritally attached to each other. [8] ALL BABIES' DEATHS IN HOSPITAL -stillborn AND neonata-l must be recorded in new statutory LEDGERS AND IN COMPUTERISED FORMS for eternity. THESE MUST BE NATIONALLY AVAILABLE TO APPROPRIATE POLICE OFFICERS IN DATABASES MUCH LIKE THE UN ITED STATES CODIS database- to prevent crime in general, killers-at-large and identity thefts of dead babies. Health Authority is responsible for allowing Lucy Letby to work on her own where legally a second nurse to check pre-IV injection or to spot common mistakes like airbuble in syringe, also writing notes like 'I am evil' a natural guild when patient die but to use 'I am evil' note as evidence is circumstantial also Clinical notes could identify the actual killer, Doctor could killed too due to overworked. Having worked in NHS there times Clinical staff were their pants and 12 hours without a drink on a busy winter day. Most times Doctor work in access of 22 hours without a break and accident on patients occured.
