@@larrybutler8948 Perhaps you are aware already, but "The Miller's Tale" is the second of Chaucer's _Canterbury Tales,_ and this definitely seems to be what the song is referencing. Knowing that, though, doesn't seem to make the words to the song any more decipherable.

This is a cover of an iconic British song from 1967 with history dating back to Bach, that’s stood the test of time. I wouldn’t bother trying put meaning to the lyrics, I don’t think Procol Harum know themselves. The sound of this song with it’s classic electronic organ melody is most memorable. Lucy with her clear voice delivers the lyrics cleanly so now we can listen the lyrics, when the original focuses more on the music and tune. This is an artistic production of an old building worn and torn with pale shades to back set the contrasting colour and rich tones of Lucy. Everything and all, and only what’s needed, but pleased it stayed simple and focused on Lucy.

I think this song is more of a feeling than a meaning. Whatever “you” think the meaning is, that’s what it is. Lucy just sets the mood.

I’m surprised you didn’t recognise the song from 1967, a classic. I love Lucy’s lower register, smooth and soothing. Credit to the production team coming up with the idea of using a ballerina in an old “whiter shade of pale” house. 😊

I was 18 in early 1968 when I heard Procol Harum perform this live shortly after it has been No 1 in the UK for 6 weeks and no I didn’t understand the lyrics then either! Lucy’s version is based on the Annie Lenox version from the mid 90s but, in my opinion is better than the original and any of the literally hundreds of covers since then!

Hi ya Dennis - as randysimon pointed out 'Whiter Shade of Pale was a #1 hit by Procol Harum in 1967'. Lucy performed this song completely in her lower vocal range. Those rich and deep vocal tones are a divergence from her previous performances, highlighting her versatility in presentation. Another very nice reaction and your support for Lucy. Hope your new year is very successful, safe, & healthy!

Hi Dennis This is a classic song sung by British Band Procol Harum in 1967.Don´t worry about not understanding the Lyrics no one has to this day .Just enjoy the beauty of Lucy´s rendition .She is gearing up now for launch out into the world She is using her great lower register in this song I think this is her best song to date Chris Broom has done a fantastic job in the Production with the shabby pale background and the Ballet dancer all adding the contrast to Lucy´s bright dress. I think Lucy goes way beyond with this. Thanks for your continued support for Lucy Happy New Year

You must be very young Dennis! 😂 This is one of the most covered songs in pop history with over 1000 known covers - and there is still debate over the meaning of the lyrics! 1967 was during the psychedelic era and the use of acid was common - possibly even influential in the composition of this iconic song. In spite of this, Lucy conjures her own magic with this particular 'phone book' to produce an unforgettable and unique rendition. A beautiful video in every respect.

Lucy did a fantastic performance on this song. I love her smooth lower register. The instruments are different than the original song. As best as I can remember this song has really no meaning although I still like the song. It was really popular song in the late 60s early 70s if I remember correctly. It was done during the hippy movement. But Lucy really changed the whole tempo and meaning if there is one. I don’t think anyone that is alive today is a better vocalist than Lucy. I’m an old man and I have heard a lot of people sing but she is in a class of her own.

@@jimivison5837 I respect that your tastes are different. However, I'd be remiss if I didn't point out that your comments of "gritty voice she uses much too often" and "not my style of music" are not quite accurate. She has no "style of music", except maybe the jazz influences that she often injects into her rendition. But she covers so many genres, and being known as "the girl with a 1000 voices", in her over 200 covers and originals, she's never been accused of just using one or two of them. She's always changing her sound. It's one aspect of her creative genius that sets her apart from all the rest.

Hello Denis, this song was recorded originally by a British Group called Procal Harlom in 1967, the original was a bit different than Lucy's version, Lucy's version was recorded by a Scottish Singer called Annie Lennox in the 90's. This song is one of the old time greats and the lyrics was written by a person who was a hippy don't forget in the 60's there was flower power so everybody was stoned the words written although sounding beautiful had no meaning. Lucy sings this copy just like Annie Lennox it's so hard to tell the difference between the too. This cover is so good, Lucy is going to be a Superstar soon there is nobody out there that can match the way she sings. Happy New Year Barbara.

Hi, predates the 80's by a lot. Famous Procol Harum piece. You need to take a look at a version from a concert in Denmark from 2006 by Gary Brooker. It was from the psychedelic rock era (late 60's). Lucy as always makes it her own. It is on her latest album. A few more on the album to look forward to, because they are beautiful ("Pie Jesu", "1000 Years" and "Hold On") when she releases videos.

This was a boring song when it first came out, so just because someone "threw it to" Lucy Thomas doesn't make it a hit. I prefer to hear her do better songs. I love listening to Lucy and there is a song called "Hold On" (another original song from the upcoming, Rosie the Musical) and it is so much better a song, than Whiter Shade of Dull (pale)..except Hold On is just a cover so far of the beautiful, budding Lucy Thomas, but it needs the video of the Will Callan/Lucy T, like the beautiful original "Above the Clouds". Those two are special songs. This one is not.
