I got married at eighteen to my hubby, I was four and a half months pregnant. We'd met at the end of March and by the middle of April he'd asked me to marry him. I moved in with him in the May found out I was expecting in August and we married in the October. I borrowed the white full dress off a friend, there was about a handful of guests. We married in a church with no flowers, music and it cost £45 that my dad paid for. We didn't have a reception, we went back to our flat, my mum had done food, had a cake made. We didn't have a honeymoon. The following March we had our daughter, she was our first, followed with three boys. So twenty-five years later we are still very much in love and our 24,23,20 & 18 year old kids are very happy. Our three son also have autism and other disabilities but they live like anyone else and are very independent. We've not looked back, you can spend silly amounts on weddings but do the marriages last? Sadly not always, if you love each other and want to spend the rest of you're lives together nothing else matters. I love watching you're posts, your blessed with a wonderful family and the boys are brilliant. I love grounded people who embrace who they are and not what others expect. Keep the posts coming xxxx

Wow this is a true love story. This is what I think. You don’t need to have a massive wedding and spend a fortune. I feel like when they do that it’s more for the guests and not because they are in love and wanna be married! Your sons are obviously warriors. I have a disability so I know how hard it can be and I see how hard it is for my mum to see me in pain etc. You and your husband are also warriors. I know that to you they are just your children but to see them have harder battles then the average person and ten times more battles is tough. I don’t know if I’m making sense here but your story is amazing. I wish you many more years of a happy marriage. 💕

r Begum thank you, I do my best and that’s what counts. After all none of us comes with an overly large handbook with step by step instructions and sometimes that would be wonderful but sadly we go in blind and have to figure it out. Thank you again for your lovely comment xx

Lucy Jessica Carter aww thank you, from what I’ve seen you do a great job yourself. Don’t get me wrong it hasn’t always been easy but you just roll with it. In regards to my sons if they didn’t have a strong supportive parent who they could trust and rely on then they’d be alone. I figured out we take our day to day living for granted children and adults with disabilities struggle with basic skills and we just need to be more aware. My hubby has told me he’s thinking of banning me from watching KZbin because I’ve gone nuts with cleaning, changing things in the house, Christmas, shopping and waffling about people on KZbin 😂what can I say🙈it’s all good. Keep up the great posts, take care 💖💖💖💖

I got married at 16, wedding cost £500 and Honestly we didn't enjoy having everyone's eyes on us and having to spend most of the day dashing about. The best part of the day was leaving together knowing we were husband and wife and would be spending the rest of our lives together . We've been married 24yrs now and our love just grows stronger and stronger. An expensive wedding isn't needed, Being married is about love not just one day and a party. You two are adorable 💏

Our wedding costs us nearly 40 grand! And I felt all the pressure in the world for it to be the best day of my life. Thank you for making this video as it has confirmed what I was too afraid to admit. Our wedding day was chaos , amongst the glitz and glamour of our beautiful wedding venue, expensive catering and fresh flower walls everywhere, I felt under so much pressure to make sure I looked amazing, everyone was happy and every photo would look flattering. None of this ended up going to plan! But I’ll allways remember the laughs and amazing feeling my family and husband gave me on the day. Was it the best day of my life! No? And often I don’t believe people when they say their wedding day was. So thank you again for shining light on this as not a lot of people would admit to this!

My mum and step dad go to the Maldives every year and I’ve been 3 times which I’m privileged to be able to do, our family tend to spend money on holiday rather than new cars and designer things. We don’t go to these massively expensive islands, but it’s the best place in the world, you want to cry all the time when you’re there at how amazing it is. I would take everyone so they could experience it just once in their life, please go, you won’t regret it, all the best x

Ive always stood by the fact the wedding doesnt make the marriage - been proven to me as well. I was a bridesmaid for my brother when he was just 18. Cheapest wedding, under £1000... everything handmade and second hand back in 2003. Church was free as they were already members and used the hall attached for the reception. My Dad had a DJ set from his 'dj days' and everyone chipped in. All the love and work tho to avoid expense I still heard 'itll never last' my sister in law was pregnant at the time. I was then a bridesmaid again for my cousin several years later, she did it all. From dress fittings in Paris to various venues for photos before the ceremony to lavish food and band.... my bridesmaid dress was actually a top and skirt and alone at just 12 was over £300. Well you wont be surprised when i say my brother is still happily married to this day... however my cousin is not. So after recently getting engaged ive promised myself to set a budget what we can afford and have and to stick to it... cos as you've said and i fully agree the wedding does not make the marriage. ❤❤

I am so glad you have made this video. I am getting married on Christmas Eve at a registry office with only our immediate family as witnesses. It took so long for our parents to come around to the idea as they dreamed of a big lavish wedding for us, but we have a son and just wanted to be married and have that family unit. It is like you have explained exactly what was on my mind! Great down to earth couple! I'm not actually married myself, but for young couples that are thinking of tieing the knot this was a really great way to let people know that it hasn't got to be all over the top, get in debt for, & just to fulfil other people's enjoyment & to feel you have to live up to people's perceptions, do what is right for you & what YOU can afford! By the way Lucy where's your white/grey jumper from Hun?, it's lovely. X

I love the title of this video! I also loved your wedding post on instagram the other week. My wedding day was awesome, but I’ve been too ashamed to say that it wasn’t the best day of my life, until you have admitted that yours wasn’t. I’m so glad I’m not the only one! I unfortunately got too swept up in the moment and invited a few people who I wouldn’t necessarily have invited now. It put a downer on it looking back, because I don’t see them now and have only seen them twice since the wedding and have since found out that they weren’t necesssarily very nice people. Secondly, it rained on my July wedding day and we had picked a venue that really was only perfect in the sunshine (my bad, I know!). As much as everyone says ‘rain shouldn’t ruin your wedding day’ (and it didn’t, it was still amazing!), it just meant that the ‘wow’ element of the day was missing because guests couldn’t explore the beautiful venue and gardens properly due to the weather, and were huddled under parasols for post ceremony drinks. I’ve tried and tried to get over that just over a year on from the wedding, but it will always stay with me that it rained on my wedding day, whilst I’ve seen a lot of people I know getting married on beautiful sunny days. Some people might think that’s ridiculous of me to feel that way, but every bride has a vision for their day (whatever that vision may be) and mine was for all my guess to be drinking champagne on the lawn in the sunshine. I really take my hat off to you for publically admitting that, even though your wedding was awesome and beautiful, it wasn’t the absolute best day of your life, because I feel exactly the same xxx
@francescabaxhija83005 жыл бұрын
I think a lot of people focus way to much on the wedding day, when it’s not about that but the life you are committing to each other. And everyone always seems to want to out do each other with big weddings. We had a small wedding (although it cost a lot!!) but I have the best marriage and that’s all that matters!! X

We tried to keep our wedding reasonable as well, we spent about 4-5k including what our parents put towards it. We knew we were about to start saving to buy a house so we didn't want to spend an extortionate amount on the wedding. We looked at a couple of hotels where it was easily going to be 10k or more. In the end my mum did our cake as she used to do them professionally, we used my dad's classic car as a wedding car, decorated function room ourselves (even including chair covers and bows from ebay), made our invitations and even did a sweet table for about £50 when I went to a wedding fair and they were £300 minimum! So much you can do yourself that saves a lot of money.

I got married when I was 21 and also 24 weeks pregnant. We had a wedding booked for July 2019 but instead we decided to secretly marry February 2018 with just our parents and siblings around, my proposal was nothing big or romantic but it never bothered me. We just did it our way. My wedding ring cost £10 and my husbands was £15, I didn't even wear a white wedding dress - we spent about £180 in total that was for the registry and cake. We enjoyed a sit down meal afterwards. I just think you get married for one reason, whether you spend 20k on a wedding or £20 you still have the same outcome. Weddings are about love, not about how flashy they are or money. So I love this video x

I love how you are talking about the fact that you don’t need a huge massive wedding. I feel like when you do that it’s more for the guests then the actual bride and groom. Yeh obviously they do it for themselves to but the majority of it is entertaining the guests etc. My mum got married in Vegas and it was perfect. She had been married to my dad once before and she did that here in the U.K. she went to Vegas because my grandpa had died and she wanted something different then the last time as it was rushed because my grandpa was very poorly and she wanted him to give her away he ended up pulling through for another 5 years. They were engaged field ages they just hadn’t got round to it. Vegas weddings aren’t just getting married by Elvis etc. There was only me, my aunt, my uncle, my sister and my grandma there. It was perfect!

I relate so much! I had a fab day but we did it on the cheap. Cost about 2k in total. People get sucked into they hype of this big white wedding and then get in debt for years! it’s about love not money xx

We got married in Mauritius with just our best friends and it was so chilled and cheap (for a wedding). We then had a party back home with friends and family but it was a lot more stressful trying to please everyone. You are totally right though, for me it's about being married not the wedding xxx
