What are the spices you added and what did you do with the dumpling mixture?
@lucylismore
@lucylismore 3 жыл бұрын
I realised I forgot to write them! The spices are 2 tsps ground cumin, 2 tsp ground coriander, 2 tsp cinnamon, 2 tsp ground tumeric and I added a touch of chilli powder. For the dumpling mixture you just drop around a tablespoon of the mixture into the simmering soup and they will puff up and cook in around 5 minutes. x

@@lucylismore Why didn't you add it to the description after realizing this? Adding what you wrote here to the pinned comment also works. There are probably 70 comments here with people asking for the spices and parts of the recipe that are missing, and more (like me) will show up over the years, just fyi. Your answer here that I am replying to is extremely buried. That being said, I'm really looking forwards to trying out this recipe. Thanks!

My elder mom was obese most of her adult life. She spent thousands on diets, and Weight Watchers. I was stuck w/ her during Covid, I eat healthy (long-time healthy vegan) and did the cooking, she went from 2-3x to size16 and has maintained it. We learned much of her health issues were solved by not eating dairy. She has muscles for the first time, she can kayak, and she had a healthy colonoscopy. Learning to eat healthy as a lifestyle is the best investment in our health. It is wonderful you were able to make this change at a young age. My siblings have diseases from their lifestyle choices. Great video.

I love that you added that after the weight loss, you continue to have fluctuations. I think that is so important to recognize and understand. Life changes and body changes happen and that is normal. People who have never been overweight have fluxuations. They happen with even small life changes. It shouldn’t result in a panic and worry.

I felt the same way as did many other of you guys liking this post, so much so that I paused it at the 17:32 mark and called a friend to share that same sentiment. It pretty much knocked down the walls standing in the way by simply scrubbing all your graffiti “knowledge,” of all the expert advice, to a four word phrase a child can comprehend, “Move More, Eat Less.” Your tips offered were as simple, but brilliant!! It was positive from beginning to I’m sure the end cause it’s still paused, but I’ve been on the move!!

I found that when I set any goals or expectations and a timeframe to reach them - no matter how high or low those expectations are; or how long or short of a period of time that is, I just can't shed that excess weight. Then in time I realized it's because I get stressed and feel pressure and my body literally locks itself. When I decided I didn't care if I lose weight or not, and I knew that somewhere along the way I surely would, I just wanted to make healthier choices for my body, then I started seeing results and quick ones, mind you. Its exactly like you said in this video. Sometimes, less is more.

@@AC-iw5mv Definitely! I went to a dietician years ago to lose the weight, I was so determined and after 3 months (and I was soooo hungry, all the time!)all I could lose was barely 5 kgs. My dietician was so disappointed and absolutely sure that I was eating pizza and hamburgers in secret :) Now, I'm never hungry and lost 8 kgs in 2 months. I believe its just the way we treat our body that makes the difference. Nutrition over calories, compassion over harsh expectations.

Your journey is so similar to mine (which just started this spring). I lost 10 kg without actually making difficult changes. One day, the famous switch flipped and I started exercising 5 times a week and making better choices about what I eat (portion sizes, more fruits and veggies, no meat). And now here I am, still loving to exercise, feeling better than ever and I'm very close to finally manage a toe push-up. I'm so much more confident and even my lipedema can't get me down anymore.

I really love this video. Thanks for showing healthy and sustainable ways of getting fit and healthy. I'm currently on my own fitness and weightloss journey and I'm down 11kg in 4 months. It's all about portion control, making healthier versions of your meals, moving a little bit more and just adjusting here and there. Another thing that has helped me is NSV (non-scale victories) like pushing through a workout, being less tired, feeling better, clothes fitting looser, ... . And most important thing: there is no bad food/food groups ... you can eat carbs, you can have dessert, you can eat pizza. It's all about portion control, making healthier versions of your meals, moving a little bit more and just adjusting here and there - NO restriction!

What you just described applies to relatively metabolically healthy people and who are not utterly addicted to (bad) carbs/sugar. Know thyself. Are you a moderator, or should you be an abstainer? Great example: moderators can buy a bag of chips or cookies. Then have a few and come back later so late that your treat has gone stale. However people that need to be abstainers are those that buy the same treat, but find that they've consumed it all in a rapid period of time. Or if trying to moderate your consumption of it is like psychological torture...

This feels a lot like intuitive eating which is wonderful. You didn't force yourself to eat a big breakfast because you weren't hungry, you ate something that was filling and delicious for lunch and then you allowed food that you loved and craved. No wonder that worked for you because that is very sustainable

Really appreciate you Lucy! This year I finally just took the uncomplicated approach that you share and have lost body fat over a sustained period of time. I feel so proud of this slow + consistent approach. It honestly doesn’t feel super difficult because I was just eating the same foods, just making small switches so I hardly felt different while I lived a normal life. Some days I ate way more than normal, like at a fam dinner or gathering etc. but I didn’t stress about it. Over 9 months I’ve lost 14 pounds and I feel really good about that. Not too fast, not too slow. Not always consistent but that’s life. Thanks for all the info you put out. It’s very helpful to the rest of us that haven’t studied nutrition science! 🧡😘

I'm 55, been disabled since birth and in a wheelchair for a few years now. Entering menopause too... Been seeing my blood work getting worse over the last 2 years and also gained weight above what has been my upper "limit" before hand. I live with a hubby who loves to snack and has no intention of doing anything healthy to get off or reduce his multiple meds for blood pressure, cholesterol, etc, even after multiple heart issues he's had. But I've decided that at my age I don't want to become like him and have 6 meds a day to keep my blood work looking 'good'. I have about 20-25 kilos to lose but I'm not going to go nuts about it. Small, gradual changes that will work for me is the way to go as well as finding more physical activity that I will enjoy. If it takes a year or two - that's fine with me. Thanks for your words and inspiration. You're the first that managed to do that! :)

If you are a woman in or post menopause it is quite different. Higher cortisol levels cause lots of weight for us. You have to lower the coritisol levels with no extreme workouts (which raises cortisol). Walking and strength training is a menopausal woman's best friend. Of course proper diet too (mediterranean diet). I hope this helps some oldere women out there who can't figure out why their exercise is not getting rid of the weight or is adding weight on them.

14:19 Hi! I'm a nutrition counselor & personal chef. Calories is not the way to figure out if something is nutritionally beneficial for your body. The more natural & less processed the food source, the more nutrients it contains. Counting calories is not the way to find out if something is more nutritious. For example, 1 cup of coke is 100 calories , while 1 cup of almonds is 547 calories. Obviously, there's nothing to compare because coke would not be considered nutrient dense, while almonds are and contain many vitamins, minerals, fiber, protein, and healthy fats even though they are more calorie dense. (Not that 1 cup of almonds is a normal serving size, but it makes the point clearer.) Nutrient dense foods also keep you fuller for longer, as opposed to a chocolate bar and a diet soft drink. Of course, enjoy the fun foods in moderation, but don't say they are replacing/ better for you than a nutritious granola bar.

Dear Lucy, I was 146kg around 5 years ago. I began my weight loss journey in 2018 and lost 40kg by early 2020. I was super disciplined with myself and I became so much happier. I was hooked with kick boxing and I went to the gym 5 times a week. By then Covid happened but I tried to stay consistent as possible. Unfortunately I went into a mental breakdown due to multiple lockdowns and succumbed to overeating again. It’s 2023 and I am now 136kg, I gained so much of weight. I became in denial but it struck me hard when the clothes that was loose on me are now super tight again. I am currently struggling to get back on track... came across your channel and it made me realised that I should not procrastinate and should give it a serious go again. Easier said than done but I’m not getting any younger, my family and friends are living their best lives now. I must find my mojo again... thank you Lucy. You are spot on. The exercise is an acceleration for what you’re already doing with just the right diet/ deficit. The kind of exercise doesn’t matter, as long as you’re active, you’ll lose fat faster. Also you lose fat EVERYWHERE, not just one place. You can’t just target your stomach or just your arms, because it’s doesn’t burn in one place of the body. It’s burns all over. ❤️✨ keep up the great advice!

Thank you for the inspiration! I wanted to say that I have psoriasis too and I found that I could completely get rid of it by eliminating these 4 things from my diet (it’s a little tough, but I swear it works): 1. Sugar-huge trigger 2. Refined carbohydrates (bread, crackers, cereals, any baked goods, most flours, processed foods, etc.)-also a huge trigger 3. Refined vegetable oils (use extra virgin olive oil, avocado oil, coconut oil instead) and 4. Alcohol. After years of experimenting and eliminating, I know what triggers my psoriasis to break out now. I find I do well with substituting sweet things with fruit, stevia in my teas, and I still eat chocolate but I get dark chocolate with as little sugar as possible, sometimes even no sugar at all. Just thought I’d share that with you in case you’ve never associated psoriasis with diet. It’s definitely dietary inflammation related.

It helps a lot that you share your portions and patterns from before as well! It shows the difference, which is important to be reminded of as well sometimes. I notice that whenever I want to lose some gained weight, I only look at what 'i should eat' instead of what i eat right now, which can give my mind a wrong example of my own eating patterns. I loved everything from this video! All very well explained! Kudos from a dietician in training

Great video! I lost about 15 kg and it took me 1,5 years. I did no sport at all but changed the way I eat completely. Many things you said in the video reminded me of my journey especially the sweet drink story you shared. I drank softdrinks all the time. So I started to mix them with a third of water, then half and half and then I only drank water because all of a sudden all these sweet drinks were too sweet for my taste. I ate more non produced food and vegetables and didn't have my candy plate around all the time. ;-) Every week sometimes month I wrote dowm my weight and that's it. I still enjoyed my sweet treats like chocolate, cake but I was more aware of the portions like you explained. Many years later I gained a few kilos again so I will do the same what I did back then. I think it was easy for me because I wasn't browsing the internet to get confused by all the false advertising. I simply did what I could and was succesful. Everyone can do it!

I am super fat and I feel ashamed to go gym because of my fatty-girl looking. I am all the time post ponding my events: going for a hike or skiing etc. I feel I am not able to do those. I always wait the day that I am gonna be fit and comfortable. But int he meantime, I do not do diet either.. I just started doin exercise again. This video made me motivated a lot.

This is the best and most relatable weight loss video ever! I was in a very similar situation as you, always had a little chub and then moved abroad alone and had no idea what calories were and why I kept gaining weight. I think my epiphany moment was similar to yours but for me, it was after I attended my annual physical (mandatory in Japan) where they said I was obese. Of course, Japan has different BMI standards for obesity than the west but since I’m East Asian, I figured their analysis of my overall health was probably more accurate than what my doctors in Canada would say. At my heaviest, I might have been 145lbs/67kg (which was quite big for an East Asian woman, only 5’2/158cm in height). Now I’m 103lbs/47kg and I’ve mostly kept the weight off these last 10 years. As you said, I chose to do an exercise I enjoyed and was comfortable with and for me, that was walking. Getting off the train a few stops early to get to work and at the end of the day to get home. I probably just walked an accumulative 1.5hours per day. And again, like you said, I made sure to go out of my way to add in a little extra activity throughout the day. I always took the stairs at the train stations and would volunteer to fetch something on the 3rd floor for a colleague. The biggest change was the food I ate but like you, it was mostly just portion control. I ate kara’age (Japanese fried chicken) nearly every night for dinner (just 2-3 ping-pong ball size pieces) but I would pair it with half a bowl of brown rice and half a plate full of sautéed spinach. As you said, I needed something to treat myself and look forward to every day otherwise all of my efforts would just feel like too much and I was afraid of falling off the wagon. These days, to maintain my weight, I do a cardio workout everyday but never interval training or anything that is too physically challenging. I have good cardio endurance (could run a 1/4 marathon) but can’t do much with my arms. But it’s sustainable for me which is why I’ve stuck to it. I also still indulge every day. I enjoy a chocolate chip cookie with a sugar-free latte pretty much every day. If I overindulge with a larger cinnamon bun or something really naughty like chips, I just make sure I eat less for dinner or I write it off as a bad day and aim to do better the next. I’m trying not to be too fussy about calories (although it’s hard not to weight my food) and I just make sure that my meals are vegetable dense even though I’m adding cream and butter to my mashed potatoes.

I wonder what kind of results you would have seen if you had started your weight loss journey with calisthenics rather than HIIT. I know it is mainly about the calorie deficit but I haaaaate HIIT yet I feel like it's the best and fastest way to lose weight. But I know that if I do something I hate it won't last long. Slow and steady wins the race. Thanks for sharing everything Lucy, it's so so motivating!

Hmmm, it's pretty popular but I think longterm strength training (either through calisthenics or weights) would be more beneficial especially in regards to building muscle mass and increasing TDEE. I think it really depends on your longterm goals too! You got this 💪🏻... thank you!! x
@esmee6308
@esmee6308 3 жыл бұрын
Calorie-deficit in the kitchen and with any movement you enjoy should be enough to lose weight and keep it off. It takes a lot more time in cardio to burn off than it takes to eat even the least calorie-dense foods. HIIT burns more than any other activity in a time-frame, but real HIIT can only be sustained for a short period and builds up quite some fatigue, which for many people affects non-exercise expenditure. If you can enjoy something simple like walking anywhere within a ~1-2km radius and enjoy it, it will take you more time but will eventually add up without affecting fatigue, leaving room for calisthenics or lifting. Also is your 'dream physique' just skinny, or at least somewhat muscular? See it as part of the journey. In my experience a deficit always feels the same as well, I have highly active days where I come close to a 3000kcal maintenance, if I eat 2500 I feel just as hungry as I would on an inactive day on 1400. Same deficit, same hunger, nearly double the food.

Thank you for being so healthy about weightloss. Diet culture has taken over much of the internet and it is refreshing to watch your well rounded approach (: you also seem so sweet and positive. (:
