You’re doing it wrong, Tom. You should’ve put your car in headfirst. Then the charge point is just to the rear on the side of the charger and it’s easy.

it’s a shame vehicle manufacturers put their charge port all over the shop. at least with ice vehicles it’s either at the rear left or right or above the bump back bumper if it’s a classic American vehicle

To me if the charger ( vehicle width) with bollards in front would be better so you either drive straight in if ports on front/ front side of vehicle or reverse vehicle in if charging ports towards the rear of the vehicle.

Aarrrgh! 😬 Cable across the paintwork - yuck! 😫 The right-side charge port was what broke the deal on the Seal for me. Good to know though that Superchargers and Seals can now play nicely together. Nice work once again, Tom. 👍🙂

@@LudicrousFeed This one was at South Yarra Victoria (based in vic) and was testing out the Seal Performance charging at a tesla location and still reached! If i reversed in it would have been on the back left but didnt want it laying on the car so went head in :)

Yeah same here. Not repeated charging either. When Battery temp hits 52 the car throttles the charging. I did this multiple times with 12-15deg C outside temp.

Just went for a long trip and the rapid gate is for real. At first charger the car throttles down to 70kW at 28% SoC down from 150kW. Second attempt the car throttle at 48%. Every time this happends when the battery hits 52deg C. Funny the car never goes over 52. Software or hardware related? 😮

Have BYD been responsive to such feedback and rolling out updates. I really don't want a Tesla and.byd seal is right up my alley. But worried will end up in a situation where oem disent respond to serious issue and roll out updates. Its a 50k car after all. Please let me know how responsive they are

Do we actually know what the problem is? Unless BYD can confidently demonstrate that it's a Tesla problem, their car is incapable of charging on one of the major ccs2 networks in Australia. It should be fixed by the manufacturer or distributor at no cost to their customers. If they charge their customers for this I'm going to be cautious about their cars in the future as what other warranty issues will they try to make their customers pay for?

Very very cool and looking forward to watching. Fantastic they are starting production fixes for the Seal and hopefully Atto 3's will be soon as well. You know most drivers won't put the cable over their car no matter what anyone tells them, they will just grab the cable on the other charger which is right there instead.

Another comment i would like to make which unrelated to your video , BYD should decouple battery pack from the model they are selling. (Given that it can be just bolted on ), At the time of buying one should be offered a choice 50, 60 or 80 KW pack. EV maker in general got be more realistic in making the buyer aware of real range that expect to get , for example 50 KW will give you 250 KM and 80 KW will give you 400 KM , their claims do not back real driving conditions . There are tons of videos in the internet ( from Australia ) including yours where claimed range is just not there. How do i define range , actual KM with 15% battery left . One would never wish to get in a situation with these figures without a reliable charger in range.

I think it’s best to calibrate your BMS regularly ie at least once a week - charge to 100% given LFP packs have such stable voltage

Some are saying it might be hard to open the driver door if you’re too close to the charger. The cable slung across the driver door makes it hard to get back into the car also 🤔

@@LudicrousFeed Yes, true. It might be good to see how long the cable on a v4 is in practice, v3 cables are very short you'd have no option but to use the 'wrong' charger. Like you said, job for another day. Of course you could sit in the passenger seat

Yes it's higher for non Tesla vehicles. Purchasing a membership brings it down to the same price as what Tesla owners pay. I've previously worked out if you charge at least 500kms worth at a Supercharger, then it's worth the price of membership

Thanks! It's more than likely that you'll receive a March 2024+ vehicle so you should be able to charge at these V3/4 Superchargers without requiring an upgrade. I would check with your sales rep the build date nonetheless

Also Tom if they told you that 2024 plates Atto 3 vehicles are ‘OK’ they obviously know exactly what the issue is because they have fixed it! They have upwards of 13,000 Atto3 s impacted …. Their most significant volume line by far! No OTA since last Nov ….. Atto 3 customers are being treated very poorly of recent times…. Suffering from ‘not the flavour of the month’

am going have to do this then, I only a pre 2024 BYD Atto3 and am having the same problem...CANNOT charge at the Tesla V4 in Raymond Tce...contacted BYD Cardiff where I brought the car and they say it's a hardware problem, and they cannot give me a time frame as to when it would be fix, only that they are working on the problem.... I trully like the Atto3, its a great car to drive and am liking it, but with my starting my business soon and would be driving all over the state, and NOT being able to charge at a Tesla Supercharger, it's gonna cost me time on the road...and cannot afford this.... I might have to contact BYD Sydney in getting this issue fixed....and see if they would listen...

I’m ex auto and this is the worst I’ve seen ….. spoiling a good product with their performance. Unlikely to be a repeat customer unless they dramatically improve.

Hey Tom, the better way to charge a Seal on V4 is to park nose forward and cable should reach the back of the car as its quite long. Try it next time. ;)

In retrospect maybe … I’ll have to go back some time to test that theory. Don’t forget it’s two door lengths to the charge port and as you can see the cable was already almost on stretch with the reach around

I'm sure Zeekr/Geely was aware of the positive press your Seal ownership had for BYD. It may be why Seal is now outselling the Atto3 after a slow start. Word of mouth is so important. Yes, it will cost EV Direct but surely they must realise 13,000 unhappy Atto3 customers will cost a lot more.

No adaptor required. V2/3/4 Superchargers in Australia all use CCS2 which is the same as the Seal and most EVs in Australia

Thank you, many have also suggested the same. I’ll have to return to try. Some have said the stall may block the driver door. You can’t drive too far forward because there is a garden bed and sign which will stop you. The slung cable may also prevent you and the rear passenger from opening the door once plugged in.

I contacted BYD Customer Care about upgrading to be able to use Tesla chargers for my BYD Seal Premium as you had done but they implied it was very difficult to do and the risk of Tesla changing their software was a big risk. I got the impression they weren't interested in updating pre March 2024 vehicles.
