i think in regards to the "europe speaking english" question it differs heavily on where in europe and the way the wars would alter in the scenario of a greater german solution to the german question. before the 2nd world war for example, in the netherlands there was hardly any english spoken compared to the relatively well understood german. this changed radically due to cultural distain from the occupation and increased economic dependance on marchall help and the way globalization unraffled with an anglo-american hegemon. in the case that a greater germany would be a bigger power and played a more dominant role in economics durring this time i could see english never surpassing german on the mainland of europe as a dominant language
@emib6599 Жыл бұрын
I thought that english become the dominant language in Europe, because the age of globalism started in the western world after the ww2, and English was simply the most teached secondary language in the world. So I think if super Germany still undefeated decides to become a part of this new era, by logic it should start to teach english in his possessions anyway.
@goldminer754 Жыл бұрын
@@emib6599 But why was and is English taught predominantly? Because after WW2 the USA was the most important and powerfull country in the west and the other western states were relient on them and wanted to make business with US. In eastern countries Russian was predominantly taught for the same reason because every Government and the businesses in the east needed to trade with the Soviet Union. When Germany was very powerfull, had the best Universities and research in the world and didn't yet kill tens of millions of people, many people were learning German instead of English or French. So having a superpower full and modern Germany in the 19th century would have lead to German being taught much much more. In the end the question really is what is the language of trade?

Answering the question at 17:00. The largest second language in Europe (and the world for that matter) is English because of British and American Commerce Culture and Soft Power follows religions and business. Had the Germans not lost WW1, I am of no doubts that German would be the most spoken language in Europe. They dominated the economy of Europe, and if they pulled in just the German parts of the Austrian Empire they would have been even stronger.

@@kristijanceple6026 In WWII yes (although the US would have declared war on the Nazis sooner or later anyways). In WWI the US declared war first after Germany continued unrestricted submarine warfare and after the Zimmermann telegram. But tbh, the US was on the side of the Entente for a long tme already. By 1917 it has been sending military equiptment to Britain and France for years. An example? In the US it is commonly accepted that the Lucitania was a civil passenger cruiser that was illegaly sunk by a german submarine. Later expeditions found military equiptment on bord of the wreckage of the Lucitania... The Germans had accused the US to smuggle military gear in civilian ships and they were right. The Germans also warned the US government and the US citizen to not ride these "civilian" cruisers to Britain, because britain was misusing neutral flags to transport weapons and ammunition.

About the conversation you had with your "friend" about the use of German if Austria and Germany had united in the 18 or 19th century I have to agree. In fact German was one the leading scientific language until WW1, and German was widely spoken throughout Europe until WW1 and was used as lingua franca by many. This is true on basically any economic system law, but especially on ones which give the player a higher fraction of the construction, make sure you queue up at least some railroads before you queue up all the new factories in states or the market access problems may begin to pile up.

@LudietHistoria I don't have significant constructive criticism for Victoria 3, because I don't even know what developers can do for the game potentially, but the biggest issue I've had with the game *by far* is that no matter the country I start as, by 1900 I'm over-powered and can easily start or have already started a "World Conquest" via puppets and then "annexing" them later. The AI's behavior is just "meh" and it doesn't really react to the player in any way other than generic "I'm mad because of high Aggressive Expansion." Also, I loved the Eddie Izzard reference! I would like to hear your opinion on vic3, I never played vic2, I bought vic3 with over 5k hours in hoi4, eu4 and ck2, hated imperator rome, I saw vic3 as a visually stunning game that is extremly bad optimized in the late game, has the worst/most buggy combat mechanics of all their games relying 100% on AI and RNG leading to way too much frustration, but I have over 500 hours in vic3 and I liked it, but I completely stopped playing because theres absolutely no replayability other than forcing yourself to do achievements, every nation is exactly the same, the AI doesnt help by not ever building oil fields or other resources to export so you HAVE to basically do world conquest and ANNEXATION in the late game, you have absolutely 0 control over your puppets. The lack of formable nations like the HRE for fun or releasables like actual countries for example Macedonia just show how bland and rushed the game is. Also im from Brasil, WHY THE FUCK THE USA GET THE OPTION TO BUILD THE STATUE OF LIBERTY BUT BRASIL DOESNT GET THE CHRIST REDEEMER, THEY WERE BOTH GIFTED BY FRANCE AT THE SAME TIME. It just comes to show that they missed the mark a LOT in this game, I really hope they improve it BEFORE spamming it with dlcs, because I am absolutely not buying any DLCs in order to fix the base game. Theres so much they could do with flavor, real life events, or like adding player ability to customize a general or country leader, customize flags and names of non historical places like "super communist germany". Just please dont paylock big updates that will for example fix the late game lag or the AI never ever building oil fields behind DLCS.

17:11 it's a very difficult question. German was for a long time one of the contentors for the World language and lost on influence during the world wars. With greater Germany beeing formed it isn't unlikely the US would become dominantly German. Without loosing the war it also would be the possibility that Hollywood don't get such much influence and the back in the time strong German film industry would become the main source of culture in the world. But all things considered nobody could say what would happened if greater germany formed.
@nehemiahkenny5027 Жыл бұрын
I agree with your friend. If Super Germany had formed, then then it is much more likely that the US would have been influenced by it. In our timeline, there was a proposal for German as a secondary language in US Schooling, due to the large populations. Hell, it was considered a problem in WWI, since a third of all newspapers were in German. It's only after WWI that we see a decline in German influence in the US. If Super Germany had formed, it would potentially have more influence, allowing it to ally with the US as a counter to the UK. So, even supposing that Hollywood still exists in the US, it _could_ be a German speaking one. Alternatively, the Super Germany could have less influence, as political dissidents from Benelux, Denmark, Hungary, and the Balkans flee German authority to the US.

About the early mega-Germany question: I reckon it boils down to what kind of state Germany would have been, would as many germans emigrate to the US or would they have stayed in Europe? A monarchist Germany going to war would still have lost millions of people to emigration, but a Germany that was not as bellicose might have meant a longer-term german influence in the US. A mega-Germany would have no friends in Europe due to fear of total german hegemony, would they have been able to push through that or work with it? Interesting stuff to consider

I am gonna be honest and people may hate me for saying it but...I liked Imperator Rome more when it released than Victoria 3.

Because it feels strange to have european nation with a name big all over the continent, i searched for extra formable nations. Like Roman empire for Italy, sadly nobody made a more historical "Paneuropa" as formable nation, only European Union or European Empire... Ps. The only way for Romania, to get a free visa for moving around is removing Austria.

Okay, Ludi, REAL question: HOW, in the names on gods, do all of you guys successfully use thousands of construction?! I'm getting absolutely lost in 600+, building barely profitable junk cause all except basic recourses is at -20% cost at that point. And it's even worse as Germany, cause i built every single woodchoper in the country and still close to +70% cost (and other countries still somehow buying it from me)...

Likely you need to raise the SoL. Richer pops -> more consumption -> more internal demand -> higher prices of goods for same production -> more profitability Otherwise just set up a ton of exports
