Strangely enough, playing Tasmania is surprisingly easy and fun for an Australia playthrough. They have a wide variety of resources (including opium). And being in the British market can get all the immigrants you could want. Start slow, lower all taxes and raise all gov wages, then build all the different natural resources. That will get SOL up high. Then start building mines and industrial buildings. It won't take too long to be the highest gdp of all the Australian states. By then you should be able to start unifying Australia. Pretty cool for the nation that has the lowest gdp at the start of the game. (not including colonizable countries - although it's lower than many of them too). Also it's easier to manage 1 state at the start of the game..

i would love a decision to build the snowy mountains scheme towards the end of the game. it was a huge deal for the amount of workers it brought in and the effect on agriculture although it wasn't finished until after Victoria's time period.

Currently, 10/10 games, Prussia can't even firm the North German Confederation. 1/15 it forms the Confederation, and in my current run (30th time playing Romania), super Germany formed. Paradox need to tweak what is happening in the german area of europe as a lot of the times Austria allies Russia, and that puts a damper on anything happening in that area.

I mean there was essentially no reason to rush to colonize australia, it's kinda a barren wasteland. But once England lost it's first penal colony they sorta needed to set up a new one. yes it's the Americas, about a quarter of the 13 colony's population were british convicts, all told about 50k people. roughly a third of the total convicts that would be sent to australia!
