I had already taken diplo and influence ideas because I went the HRE emperor route and they still had like 37% liberty desire. So yeah unless you take those ideas you should just take it yourself.

The Angevin flag makes most sense as having the "old" English flag. The Angevin flag as it is now was specifically designed to denote the English claim on France; you literally click a button as England to say "I don't give a shit about going after France anymore bro" (I'm paraphrasing) if you go down the GB path so it makes waaaay more sense that you have the proper / heraldic English flag (which is the 3 lions) - ALSO I recommend looking up the royal banner of Henry VI as that is what was in use at game start because that flag is a freaking MESS my dude

The Pope will get everything in Italy but you can get them as a subject through your tree for zero AE I think which helps with gov cap I think. Haven't done it yet but I'm on my way there

You should first do missions in Jerusalem and than click that mission about Italy and Pope, so you would have two path and all bonuses, including holy orders from Iberian that pretty strong, and during invasion in holy land you could also expand in Italy and Pope won’t tell you nothing until you click mission about Italy.

The governing capacity issue is why I let the Pope take the Italian lands. You keep Naples and Sicily too. Then when you finish the Italian missions you get the Pope as a vassal

When you end that tree the Pope in fact becomes your Personal Union and becomes the Kingdom of God so you can still then diplo annex them
