As someone who works with gasoline on a regular basis it is generally a terrible idea to leave a jerry can filled with gas in your passenger cabin. Especially in direct sunlight or on a warm day, if the can starts leaking ethanol fumes into your cabin and a spark goes off for some reason. Your whole interior will pretty much light up instantly, gasoline has a very low flashpoint at -23C so if a spark happens your screwed. That's generally the more extreme reaction the more likely probable outcome is Ludwig's gonna be driving down the highway, start getting light-headed and nauseas puke on himself, pass out, then swerve and cause a pileup.

Would like to add, for anyone that still doesn't get it, that if you're a cigarette smoker especially don't smoke while transporting gas in your vehicle. It might seem obvious, but I've witnessed a car blow up because the driver lit a cig after filling a gas can in their trunk. He survived, but still, ya don't want your car exploding.

As someone who has a few degrees in Occupational Safety & Health Slime's mindset is right on witht he gas being in the car. Gas itself dosnt really burn its the fumes and what it is called when the fumes will actually ignite is the "Flash point". Gasolines "flash point" is 476 Fahrenheit. A car in the sun for a long amount of time will usually hit 130-150 Fahrenheit. Its not recommended to keep gas in a container in your car for any prolonged amount of time. This isnt mainly due to it being a fire hazard like many would think. It is mainly due to the fume risk. If the container you have the gas in is not a true vacuum and can leak fumes it will quickly fill the cabin of the vehicle. Studies have shown that if you stay in this environment for even just 2 hours you could face massive organ failure and many other side effects. This is pointless and I went way to in-depth. Slime is correct in the fact that it is the fumes that ignite not the actual gas itself. So yes its not the best thing to keep in the back of your car, but it won't just combust in your car from direct sunlight because the fumes would have to have something ignite them so although it is hot its just going to evaporate over time due to the heat.
