i think it's also like this: by making those jokes, the actual joke is him, or the person who would say such a thing, not the people who are targeted in the literal joke. The gentlemen format is an excellerated version of this, where they all say kind of awful things, but the joke is the absurdity of these 19th cent upper class double standards of being polite but having the most vile politics and personal customs, and not for example the women they would make sexist jokes about

I also do want to comment here and say that when Spencer is talking about the Angela and Amanda Resident Evil video and "showing girls a video game" is really cool for me because of that brother aspect. Spencer and Shayne (and Trevor and everyone) make it feel so non-toxic to be able to learn about and enjoy video games. When I was growing up, it was such a boys-only thing so much of the time, and it made it not fun to learn about or enjoy video games, but smosh games has made it fun again for me to like video games.

I had the same experience, I have only brothers. When it was just my older brother and I, I would be so interested in video games but my brother would never let me touch them and say that it’s “not for girls”. So I legit grew up thinking I shouldn’t touch or like games unless my brothers said that it was cool to do so. Same thing with wrestling, we are a WWE/sports entertainment family and I was interested in it as a kid and again, my older brother would say it was just a boy thing. It wasn’t until recently where I’m learning how to play video games and watching pro wrestling more. I sucked at playing games but I learned what I liked and disliked about games and what games I gravitated more towards because of the let’s play KZbin era and those guys wouldn’t flat out tell me that I couldn’t watch, like, or play these games lol

I legitimately was not interested in Smosh content in the slightest for over a decade and subscribed only shortly before Anthony came back. Defy owning Smosh before and not respecting the audience really showed throughout the years and I simply wasn't connecting with that approach. Now, when Smosh is fully independent, the authenticity of the cast REALLY shines. Constantly trying to recapture lightning in a bottle never works. But what Smosh is doing now generates new lightning with every single upload. It truly feels like the golden era. Ps. I'm a subscriber of Anthony's channel basically since the beginning - not because I'm a superfan, but because when he left Smosh, his mature take on making videos and the connection he cultivated with his guests was genuinely the content I could get behind.

@@tiktaktictac It's a term used in competitive games to refer to how people play the game currently. For example, if a character suddenly gets super strong and everyone starts using it, that character is the meta. It can also refer to techniques or strategies, like Spencer does for hitting his sisters
@nyxx781318 күн бұрын
@@tiktaktictac meta used like this is referring to gaming. Specifically the meta-game. the meta-game within in a game is dependent on various factors. for example, in a game like overwatch theres tierlists of the characters based on their performance "In the meta". Then that brings in terms like "nerf" or "buff". Nerfing something is essentially weakening something. Metas aren't defined by game developers, but by players. So if in a game there was 10 characters, but over time players slowly find out that characters 4-8 are insanely good. Then that means characters 4-8 throught out the games player base are playing them and a bunch of data is collected to produce the "meta". Its win rates, pick rates, ease of use, etc. if you play any call of duty, that games meta is defined by the guns and perks, sometimes even the operator you use (character model) can have an impact on competitive performance. So when he uses it about hitting his sisters, he is saying that it was just the most common outcome or methodology of executing harassing and fighting with his sisters was hitting. but its not as one to one or that anal about it being a collection of data 🤓🤓🤓 hes more so saying that wasj ust the most common thing that happened. Phyiscal sports kind of have metas. Like height in basketball. Anatomy based pros and cons related to like physical measurements. In the olympics there are banned shoes for running sports because they like fuck up the "meta" and are assisting runners to much. Some shoes give you about a half inch of boost in stride distance bla bla. I hope this helps.

@@tiktaktictac Meta is an acronym mostly in gaming for Most Effective Tactic Available. It basically means "this is the way to get the best result in the game" So he's basically saying that fighting his sisters was the way lots of people were back then

As a relative newbie to the Smosh universe, Smosh Games was the last channel I explored. I'm not much of a gamer in any sense, but I am thoroughly entertained by Smosh Games videos. I can't wait to see what's coming in the future!

Same! I avoided the channel for a while cause I just figured it wouldn’t feel relevant to me (and I admittedly still don’t engage much with the more video game-specific videos), but it has honestly become one of my favorite Smosh channels! Especially after the latest Dread series 🤯

This felt like an employee review a lil bit towards the end. Spencer is great and being so upfront and public about his journey and performance on the Games channel speaks volumes to his work ethic and drive.

I couldn't fathom Smosh's entire existence without Spencer. As a fan I absolutely love his style of comedy. He's so much more than an editor...

I feel like this video was like the best kind of performance appraisal for Spencer lol. But honestly, the Games channel is one of the things I look forward to the most and also rewatch constantly. I definitely feel what Spencer was saying where the best videos have been the ones where they are just trying to have the most fun. You can see the change over previous eras where it’s all about numbers and what performs better, this era just seems so much more authentic. It’s probably why I enjoy it the most, it’s truly about laughs and friendships. I think this current cast lineup is also helping that though too because they all are just so good together and just bounce of each other so well!

I’m a Spencer girlie ❤❤ he just really calls to what I find interesting online. Similar to someone I would choose to spend time with in real life, like a friend. That’s his appeal. He manages to do that to almost everyone, I feel. He’s done amazing things with the Games channel and wow I’m excited hearing about yall having big plans!!

Before a year ago, I would've never watched a Smosh video. Now I'm subscribed to most of the Smosh channels. The variety is awesome. I've been on KZbin since the beginning and Smosh's humor wasn't my kind of humor, so while I was aware of Smosh for over a decade, I didn't watch their stuff. I started to watch "I spent a day with.." during the pandemic, knowing who Anthony was and it was awesome, then I remember hearing mythical bought Smosh after Defy died on the Philip DeFranco show, and then when Ian was on "I spent a day with..." And it was announced Ian and Anthony were getting back together, I started watching the Smosh channels and loved the content from TNTL to Reddit Stories to Smosh Mouth, to a lot of the table top games they played. Idk it just seemed better than the really weird and chaotic nature of the old content and it drew me in.

I totally agree that Spencer is so good at letting the audience feel like they know him yet sharing so little about his past and life outside smosh. I just realized how little I actually know about Spencer. I don't even know how old he is yet he feels like a friend who I've known for so long. A really tricky thing to achieve but he does it so easily.

For real though, anytime I’ve recently asked someone if they watch smosh they’re all replied so enthusiastically and then we’ve spent the next 1+ talking about smosh. That’s the kind of thing you guys have going and I love it

Man turns to face Anthony being more direct, giving them both more space, and clearly values this conversation rather than sitting in the direction of the chairs regardless of being a director himself, knowing that can be counter-intuitive. #1 Clue Spencer is chill and authentic. Absolutely lovely.

I really think one of the reasons Spencer has become so beloved by the Smosh community is that whenever he’s in a video you can tell everyone in the room finds him so funny. All these people who were hired as cast for their comedic chops, and this editor/director is the guy who makes them all laugh more than anyone.

I think something big I've noticed in the past year, across all channels, is how much fun the crew is having while the videos are being filmed. It used to be that you'd occasionally hear Shayne or another cast member laugh, if they were watching a vid be filmed, but it's rare that a video these days doesn't have the sounds of crew laughter in the background. It really shows how much fun everyone is having, and as a viewer, having that extra layer, it just adds so much.

When people ask why I love watching Smosh so much, I explain that it's because I love watching a group of friends share things, have laughs, and get to explore their creative paths. Hearing Spencer explain that the target tone for Smosh is aspirational seems spot on. I love watching the shows because the cast and crew remind me of my own friends - now that we're all adults we have busy lives and don't get to hang out so much, but when we do, the vibes are often very similar to the Smosh gang. Watching Smosh videos gives me the opportunity to experience some of that joy when my friends aren't around. 💛

13:53 this commentary on detaching from numbers I think is so relatable even from someone who does not necessarily have a social media platform like Anthony and Spencer. It’s hard to know the balance of healthy sharing and also keeping your own mental health intact. But also not getting focused on numbers. I aspire to be more able to focus on my life outside of social media, good on Spencer for making boundaries early on.

I freakin love Spencer and everything that him and the crew have accomplished at Smosh Games. Literally my favorite Smosh channel because it always feels like I have someone that I'm hanging out with. They've definitely achieved the "aspirational" tone that they were going for. Cant wait for more

This may be a little deep, but Smosh is the ONLY channel that doesn’t make me want to end my life. I genuinely want to thank you all for the authenticity and kindness that is put into the videos from Smosh. Obviously I only know what is shown to the viewer but the purity of that channel is something I value very highly. For years I’ve been struggling with mental health and the only thing that keeps me going most of the time is a Smosh video. 🖤

Also - just to note - Spencer's been there since 2014. back then he only edited videos, but he persevered through the bs of defy, the layoffs and the bloody shutdown. compared to a lot of the crew, he does deserve to be where he's at.
