Not true at all! Even if you feel your skill level is low, you should still go to tournaments. You can learn how you stack up to your local scene, make friends and training partners, all while getting better at the game. As someone who used to be scared of entering, it's totally different and better from what you think it would be

I fell into that trap early on as well, but once you go you really realize the only person expecting you to be some standard level of decent is yourself lol. Plus its the easiest and quickest way to getting decent quickly as a beginner anyways so its a win-win.

Melee players love seeing new heads show up! And if you ask any of them for advice you usually have a hard time getting them to shut up lol Thing is that it's always possible to kind of feel this way bc the melee levels go so deep/ so high, kind of a mentality thing to always think about. I do think many locals these days are accommodating for newer players with like redemption brackets or newbie tournaments. There are also tons of slippi kids like you who have just started playing in the last year or so!
