I remember that, after playing some it and putting it down, years later I mistook the Best Friend for the Main Character. That aside, I couldn't really get into it back then. I could go and play it now, but I'm honestly more focused on the Mainline games at the moment. That said, Lufia The Legend Returns is amazing by the way. Don't listen to the haters. I don't doubt the fact that it's a bit of a weird choice to put it on the GBC, but because of it it's easily one of the best-looking JRPGs in there. The soundtrack is not something to scoof at either, with the track that plays in Leong Temple being my favorite.

It’s so obnoxious how no one reviews this game with out comparing it to its past games. This is the best RPG I’ve ever played and nothing compares. I searched my whole life for a jrpg this fun and exciting. It does it all amazingly! Not even Lufia 1 or 2. So stop comparing it to those.

This was the most positive review I’ve heard of this game. I’m a pretty big Lufia fan but I could not get into Ruins of lore. In fact I think the gameboy Lufia game has a better story. I will agree the music and battle graphics are great but I just couldn’t finish this game. And what did they do to my boy Dekar

Same, got lufia 2 first and loved it played 1 and 3 later and thought they were OK not even close to 2 but fine RPGs... then I picked this game up years ago played it for hours and just couldn't get into it. Just a big meh.

I think this is better then Lufia I but not as good as II, or The Legend Returns (Which is both my favorite Lufia game and my favorite game originally made for the Gameboy Color)

It isn't a bad game... but I never really gave it enough time. A lot too kiddy for my tastes at the time and it's somewhere alongside of Ankylosaurus fossils in mt. Backlog now.

My ranking for the series is, in descending order: Lufia II, Ruins of Lore, Lufia I. The inclusion of Dekar is enough to push Ruins of Lore above Lufia I; Dekar is the man.

It's unfortunate how this game is so close to greatness. Everything has a bit too much startup lag inside of battle, you're back to Lufia 1 battle mechanics like turn amounts being based on Agility and being unable to cancel actions out once you select them, the story becomes very rushed by the end, and the lack of save points inside of dungeons is a baffling exclusion from previous games. It's quite telling that the game features a ton of unused content, from unused enemies, to unused sprites, to unused music even. There's a credits theme in the game, but no credits sequence at all. Ragule has like 3 appearances in the whole game, and 4 lines of dialogue. The game was very obviously rushed, and that's a shame. I like the combat in The Legend Returns, I like how it's the one game in the entire series that doesn't degrade bosses into regular enemies, making all of them unique and memorable in some form or another; I also like the ideas this game introduces as well, like the Disc Monsters system and switching partners mid-dungeon, something that was originally planned for Lufia II but scrapped during the prototype phase of development by the time they got to making Artea's sprites. To me, the ultimate Lufia game would be a mixture of The Legend Returns and Ruins of Lore's combat systems, while having the more episodic nature of Rise of the Sinistral's plot. Shame the Harvest Moon devs still own the Lufia IP, because even though chances for a remake would be small, at least in the hands of Square Enix they'd likely have tried a remake of the first game instead of the second one, which really didn't need one.

To add to my other comment, I would've liked it better if they looked at Golden Sun as an example, especially since it was a very famous example of GBA JRPG, and they could've even used The Lost Age as a better part of it as well.... not sure what went wrong there.

Im a huge fan of Lufia 2, and in my opinion this game cannot hold a candle to part 2 on the SNES. I’m having to force myself just to play it at the moment because there are so many aspects of this game that I feel were poorly designed. The story itself is generally uninteresting, and its hard to like any of the characters. Its just all around boring and not fun.
