I couldn't believe how beautiful Greenland and Iceland are from the air. I had the privilege of being on a flight on a ridiculously clear day. We could see probably twice as far as shown in the video. The contrast in color between the deep blue ocean and the white of Greenland was breathtaking. I was amazed by the number of huge icebergs that were freshly calved off the tip of one of the massive glaciers.

I have taken the flight from Frankfurt to Denver on a 747-400, and I remember the scenery being very similar to what you filmed. The vastness, the shear emptiness of the arctic is really something to behold. It makes you feel very small. Every now and then you see a trace of man, but most of the time it's just nothing. Completely untouched. You really are on the edge of the world there. Also I have to say, what an amazing machine the 747 is.
@KoT-ew2dk Жыл бұрын
this route does not go through the arctic, but planes fly. how is this possible?
@xythras Жыл бұрын
The depicted route is inefficient and improbable on a Globe model. But on a Plane Earth model, it makes all sense: as the shortest distance between 2 points is the straight line. Media always gaslights viewers depicting a route very curved to the north, almost parabolic, when the straight line (use whenever possible in transportation) has, in practice, a very minimal deviation from straightness.

Oh that was a beautiful ride, what a well done vid. Brings back memories of being in roughly the same seat, on one of those magnificent beasts, the majesty of all that power as you take off lifting all that plane, fuel, people, baggage, looking like you are barely moving when you are up high as you look at the beautiful Earth below, the reality of how fast you are moving when you move through spotty clouds, and finally, the marvel of how the plane maneuvers with the engines revving up and down, the banking and positioning to line up with the runway, and the realization of how fast you are really moving as you get a few hundred feet off the ground, and finally the respect and admiration to those who designed, built, pilot,and maintain and guide these beasts down safely. I have nothing but respect and admiration to all of the people involved, from start to finish. Just beautiful.

The 747-8 is a magnificent aircraft. I think its only real flaw is that it isn't as quiet as the A380. The IFE on Lufthansa is pretty decent. But it pales in comparison, in my opinion, to the spectacular views you have shown us here. Good post.

The more close you are the nose, the quieter and better of the a380 the 747 is :). The 747 doesn't have to surpass the the super jumbo to be the best since is already better tha the rest.

Truly breathtaking and beautiful and it felt like I was looking at this truly magical place...I'd gone to sleep somewhere over North Dakota and woke up again over Iceland and it was a different world. About 15 years ago I was returning to Toronto Canada aboard a Air Canada A340 Airbus and the APU failed which forced the pilot to fly a more Northerly route over greenland. While we were over the west coast I spotted a (what I thought was a huge iceberg, with a lake in the center of it). Two days later there is a picture in the paper of what they said was the largest iceberg seen in years (it was 7Kms by 11Kms long) Neat!!

The view from the window of a Boeing 747-8 is truly breathtaking, offering a unique perspective of the aircraft’s sleek design and powerful engine. Aviation has always been a passion of mine, and while I may not have pursued a career as a pilot, my dream of owning an airline remains steadfast. Based in the UK, my goal is to one day introduce my own airline to the world, and although the name is yet to be decided, I am determined to make it a reality. The legacy of the 747-8, which is no longer in production, will always hold a special place in my heart. I am a dedicated fan of both Airbus and Boeing, and I eagerly anticipate the future innovations in aviation. This journey to become an airline owner is a long-term passion that I look forward to fulfilling.
