A great video as always! S Stock has probably become my favorite underground stock too. The open gangways and air conditioning certainly make them the nicest to travel on, though in the peaks it's never going to be that pleasant!

I'm more of an A-Stock man myself (back in t' day), but the S-stock is still a firm favourite of mine. I find it funny how the S stock and 2009 stock on the Vic line sound very similar, but for some reason I don't mind the S-stock sounds, yet cannot stand the 2009 stock sounds. Huh.
@matthewb69167 жыл бұрын
To be perfectly honest, 2009 stock is my #1 favorite stock purely because of the sounds. I just love that loud whistling noise. Also, don't you think 2009 stock looks like a smaller, squashed version of the S stock, or is it just me?
@ollykehoe50547 жыл бұрын
Matthew B S stock and 2009 stock are made by the same manufacturer, at roughly the same time, and to similar specifications.
@wilsjane7 жыл бұрын
+Matthew B, The Victoria line trains are smaller and rounded at the top to run through the circular cast iron tunnels. District line trains are squarer and taller. However the S stock floor is 8 inches lower inside due to the smaller motors and a similar space in the roof allows the air conditioning equipment. They also use regenerative braking that saves energy, avoids brake dust and is almost silent. It is not fully operational at the moment, due to the high return voltage tripping older trains still in use on the same line. It also takes longer to stop, causing the mechanical brake to cut in quite frequently. It will only operate fully when the trains are driver-less.

Walk-thru trains. Brilliant. I presume the technology wasn't available sooner, then and out-of-the-box designer said, "why do we need to think in separate cars?" Good vid., Thanks
@wilsjane7 жыл бұрын
They do have a problem. If one set of doors develop a fault, a seat is dangerously broken or a window is smashed, a carriage cannot be substituted and the whole train has to remain in the workshop awaiting repair. In extreme circumstances a carriage can be substituted, but it is a lengthy process and has to be carried out in the workshop by engineers.

One of the two of my favorite rolling stock of the Underground. The other one is the Victoria 2009 stock. LIST(lines that uses my favorite stock of the Underground): Sub-surface lines (so good and modern) Victoria (that sound) Jubilee/Northern (door sounds) Piccadilly Bakerloo Central/W-loo and City (I don't like them.. they look weird especially the big windows)

Isn't that a cheery robo-announcer. Isn't it nice to find someone so happy in their work.
@wilsjane7 жыл бұрын
It is great fun when the driver forgets to set his destination at the start of the journey and when he realizes it at the first stop, the announcements and indicator boards are one station out of sync for the rest of the journey. Setting it wrongly will result in the system thinking that the train is on the opposite side of London. When the district line trains were first introduced, the announcements and indicator boards were sometimes giving out metropolitan line information.

No S Stock is to stay A, C and D Stock does not cut for today's tube. Niff why do you want privacy on public transport? The S Stock has walkthrough carriages to help passenger flow. What are you talking about the 2009 stock. A massive mess. The 1967 stock is old and could not achieve the 36 tph.

A decade ago, London underground was getting into a bad state of repair. Since then, we have replaced about 50 trains a year at a cost of 6 million pounds EACH. Signalling and stations have also been extensively upgraded. Stations are fully automated with 75% fewer staff. Although no one will admit it, the trains will soon be driver-less. Platform edge doors are also being introduced, but they cannot be installed in stations where the platform is curved. kzbin.info/www/bejne/f16zlpZqfNt3rbM

Granted, the trains are huge and don't accelerate that fast. The District, H&C and Circle line stations are fairly close so there is no need to for it to go that fast. If you go on the Metropolitan line S8 stock they go really fast.
