San Francisco has one of the best public transportation systems in the country. For a mere $75 a month (Clipper card) you get unlimited rides. The city is comparatively small (49 sq miles) so you can get practically anywhere on public transit and never worry about finding a parking spot. Using the NextBus feature on your phone means you can track when the bus or train will arrive.

What would it cost to use all public transport for one day?

You were so lucky to catch the electric trolleybuses doing the 49-Van Ness/Mission line since those buses have been (temporarily) replaced by Muni's New Flyer Xcelsior XDE60 low-floor buses and Neoplan AN460 high-floored diesel coaches since 23 April 2016. The main reason: the Van Ness Avenue corridor between Market Street and Lombard Street will be upgraded soon to become a full-blown BRT line, which will require reconstructing the roadway for at least two years.

Did MUNI not keep one of the 60ft Skoda ETIs for heritage? I guess we got the really clean 40ft restoration that i saw at presidio few weeks ago.

3:55 in Hannover Germany there's a tram like this, but most overground stops has high platforms on completely Plattform length and first vehicles hasn't the steps for being compatible with low platforms. That makes it possible for wheelchair users to enter the tram on each door

Amazing that they can keep standard wall phones ( for whatever purpose they serve) at Castro Station, without them being stolen or damaged.
@punchnazis3498
@punchnazis3498 6 жыл бұрын
lol why would anyone try to steal some useless old maintenance/emergency phone that's attached to the wall (which makes it pretty hard to steal anyways). Trust me if there was a reason or if it were easy to steal them, it would happen all the time, and they wouldn't be there...there's no shortage of theft in SF, which has one of the highest property crime rates in the US. I'm sure they do get damaged sometimes though.

Very klassy trolleybus power supply multiple crossing :D In Europe knowns for 135yrs, very frequent in central and eastern Europe, or at continent at all.. At now in the most of cities and towns centers begin operating hybrids of trolley and diesel or trolley and electrobus .. Just Trolley... In this times, a power supply cables are not allowed in everywhere, for example - in a city centers - they have allowed to drive as an electrobuses only, from saved energy in batteries . For the rest of route, when they´re powered by cables, they´re charging the batteries.. But for an American city - still very solid job SF !

I don't like BRTs at all, but BRTs should seriously be made using trolleybuses· It would be so much better· Imagine all the pollution from all-diesel BRTs··· Ecologically outrageous·
@Zarastroika
@Zarastroika 8 жыл бұрын
@Zarastroika
@Zarastroika 7 жыл бұрын

@AlexTheRailroader
@AlexTheRailroader 8 жыл бұрын
zero emissions. They do not utilize diesel or gasoline because they draw electricity from the overhead wires. So they are used in cities like San Francisco where clean air is demanded from public transportation.
@Luftschlange
@Luftschlange 8 жыл бұрын
Also, trolleybuses manage very well with steep terrain (like in San Francisco) as electric motors have much better torque than diesel engines. Moreover, the ride is smoother, and they are quieter.
@oscardaone
@oscardaone 8 жыл бұрын
I see. However, wouldn't light rails already do that despite construction cost?
@AlexTheRailroader
@AlexTheRailroader 8 жыл бұрын
oscardaone light rails can't go up San Francisco's steep hills, the incline is too steep, the light rails would simply slide back down the hill, you need friction, like a rubber tire, -ergo trolley busses :)
