Luggage Rack and Sissy Bar install 2002 Honda Rebel 250 (CMX250C) | The Fixit shed

I bought a 2002 Honda Rebel 250 (CMX250C) that is 20 years old, but only has 1888 miles on it. I need to add a luggage rack and sissy bar to carry my lunch cooler to work.

I literally got the exact same backrest/luggage rack for my bike. It looks sharp. 😎

On mine, the Chrome finish is not very durable. I had to wrap it with a rubber rim strap that I had lying around to protect it. The Chrome started wearing off, so if you want to keep it looking nice and you're going to use it all the time, you're gonna want to protect it with a piece of hose or something.

I really like it. It think it looks pretty good. You may want to make sure you protect the luggage rack if you put stuff on it. Mine seems to be getting scratched up from my plastic lunch cooler

Looks great man. Two questions: has it held up and does the luggage rack have to be mounted for the sissy bar to mount secure?

No and No. I carried a plastic lunch cooler on it daily, and it started to wear through the "chrome" I wrapped some rubber around it to protect it. It does look nice new, but if you are going to use the rack, I would wrap it with something to protect it. You do not have to mount the luggage rack part. Just the back rest will work just fine.

It's straightforward yes, but a major major b**** to do with saddlebags installed. LOL And why not remove the saddlebags you may ask? Because the backing nuts with the bags in the way, is impossible to work with

I ordered what I think is the same rack from eBay. The rack has a distinct downward lean and when I started to shop for a tail bag to mount to the rack, I found that even the smallest sizes that go the length of the rack block the tail light. I'm going to fabricate a couple of little aluminum extenders to kick that rack back up near level or even a little higher. I'll keep you posted how I make out. I'm curious if you're having a similar issue.

@@TheFixitShedI loosened all the mounting bolts including the bolts to the fender. There is some slop in the bolt holes so there is some movement. I pulled the rack up as high as I could and took a pretty good amount of the sag out and retightened it. I guess it will have to do.

That's awesome! I found that my plactic lunch cooler would slide around a little. So I use the back rest as an additional point to secure it.

I don't have saddle bags to test, but I don't see any reason it would interfere with the bags or the brackets.

The seller that I bought from is out of stock, but I'll post a link to one that looks identical. They aren't the highest quality. I carry a plastic lunch cooler on min, and it has worn the "chrome" off.
