Luigi's Mansion is one of my favorite games, but it was recently remade on the 3DS. I was originally not going to bother with it, but Might as well for completions sake.

I entirely agree. The 3DS port is about as good as it was ever going to be. I don't blame the developers who were told to remake the game for an inferior system, but at the end of the day it just feels pointless. I really liked playing The Hidden Mansion and getting most of the achievements, but otherwise it's just a worse version of the game and I'll stick to the original as my go-to way to play.

I think this game is actually very impressive for the 3DS and I am glad we got it on a 3D console right before the 3DS basically died. I mean, if Rayman 3D, many Switch ports, and some other 3DS ports taught me anything, it's that it's hard to replicate a previously existing experience on modern hardware, especially if there's no care put into it. There was definitely at least some care put into this game. Sure, it has problems, but I'd say it did a pretty good job with transitioning a GameCube game on the 3DS. It made me also wish we got more 3DS ports of GameCube games! Just imagine TTYD or Super Mario Sunshine on the 3DS! That would be awesome!
@AkameGaKillfan777
@AkameGaKillfan777 Жыл бұрын
TTYD could work since it doesn't use the C-stick and Select can be used in place of Z. Though given how fragile the Circle Pad is, they should've changed the Super/Ultra Hammer moves and Spring Jump, along with some action commands like Shell Slam and Love Slap. Sunshine however would not work and arguably be worse than Luigi's Mansion since there would be no camera control, switching between spraying while moving and aiming would be clunky, and the spin jump would also be awful for the Circle Pad. The game really would've benefited from 60fps, as seen in future 3D Marios, which probably would've happened on the original if it wasn't rushed, but very few 3DS games in comparison to consoles ran at that framerate.

27:22 That’s not supposed to happen. That’s actually drops in the frame rate that screw up the timing. The game is supposed to run at 30 frames per second, but sometimes the game lags a little, and that’s what causes the de sync. In fact, this seems to be a common thing in the cutscenes of this game. Really strange, considering the 3DS is capable of running good looking games and keeping the frame rate steady. It might dip a couple times, but this just looks bad. EDIT: I’ve seen footage of the co-op and HOLY, is the frame rate horrible in co-op! Seriously, in the base game, the frame rate might dip occasionally, but it still generally says above 20 fps. But for the co-op, the average is about 10 fps and during combat it gets so bad, it’s almost impossible to tell what’s going on!

I was down for a remake of luigi's mansion getting it a fresh coat of paint, I was also surprised it got announced for the 3ds as I still did not have a switch yet(even now I still don't have one). If they just made the controls like dark moon but tweaked them it would have been alright. But, after finishing the game my god wtf did Grezzo do to the controls and the frame-rate(a little to blame). I know it's a old system(new 3ds/3ds) but how did they not tweak the game more smoothly, the revision has been out for 3 years or why didn't they make it a new 3ds exclusive if it had frame-rates as playing it on the original is a nightmare. Co-Op is a slideshow and the controls man oh man, the c-stick is even more difficult to control in this game even with the psp mod and the circle pad didn't respond to some ghost battles(toy solider boss ,final boss). It's just a worser experience, i'm glad someone pointed the issues out even further and ripped this game, not a good remake at all. I thought people were being too harsh when it was announced but god. It had flakes of charm left but at what cost. Will sub keep up the good Analyses. Also live long 3ds until the end of 2019 but no more remakes AT ALL.

The one thing I like about the controls is that you can press a button to toggle between regular and sidestep movement. So you can vacuum in the direction you walk, which you couldn't before. I find this really handy for sucking up cash.

There's one aspect of general consensus I don't agree with: LM 3DS controls > LM 2 controls. On remake I can rotate 360 easily combining 2 buttons switftly, LM 2 is impossible. Gyroscope worked out to me cuz rotate Postelgust felt neet, precise and smooth. It's like you got more freedom of movement on the remake than the sequel. Can't believe people had a big deal with controls, but I cant expect them to agree with me, Im in minority

Personally, I love the new Luigi's mansion dark moon as well as the original remake. However, I 100% agree because part of my experience with these Luigi's mansion games was a mix of slight discomfort as far as control/action layout and awkwardness also because of the controls on handheld.

I hate it when Remakes change the atmosphere of a scene. For example, in Majora's Mash 3DS, when the moon is falling and the giants are coming, the sky is all red and the moon makes a weird noise while crashing. In the original however, it is simply dawn, and I thought this scene was beautiful that way, no need to add that red sky or anything else.

I think they actually nerfed the combat in this game to take into account the 3DS' unique controls, it feels easier to suck up portrait ghosts in the 3DS game than the GameCube.

1 if you go below 90 in the final boss then heal it will not count for gold because the heath you have left isn’t the decided factor for the rank it’s the amount of damage you take so you can go into a boss fight with 50 hp and get gold (I haven’t tested not going below 90 hp but I don’t think that would work because of what they did) 2 platinum is taking 5 or less damage not 10

@@lilypyrope4620 I also agree with your point you make at 42:26 - 42:46 because the thing I love about games from the 5th generation is that the old graphics give the games its own identity and charm. For example, one of my favorite video game series of all time is SEGA's Yakuza series (or Like a Dragon in Japan) but on PS4 Yakuza 1 & 2 both got remakes and while both remakes had their moments overall, I thought both games were the inferior experience compared to original PS2 games because what I loved about Yakuza 1 & 2 is the densely layered atmosphere of Kamurochō the color scheme of the city and the way all the lights bloom together to make things look a bit hazy it's really snug walking down the streets you get swallowed up in the dense crowds as NPC Dialogue boxes fill the screen it makes you feel like you're part of the energy of the city and that's helped by the games fixed camera angles that'll sometimes be pulled really far back giving you a sense of scale the game even has a button for locating Kiryu if you lost track of him. I really feel like the interiors of stores and buildings in Yakuza 1 & 2 really benefit from the deliberate nature of the fixed camera angles too because they're able to make each sure each location looks striking with additional details placed where they know you'll be looking making them appear more lived in, for example in one of the restaurants you can visit there is so much small details that this restaurants feel more real like a coat placed on the back of a chair or bags in the corner of the seat or women in the foreground who not additional detail on their faces but have unique items on their table too there's something so cozy about the PS2 renditions of Kamurochō and the low polygon NPCs are so charming they're squadding or smoking constantly which gives the city a grimy punk attitude in both of the Kiwami remakes it just feel the NPCs are just transiting through while in the original PS2 games it feels more like a hangout spot for delinquents like these people are here all the time and they're hiding out in every nook and cranny they can with the stationary camera it's exciting to discover and ally way tucked away in the corner of the screen when it hard cuts to the mysterious new location you found, Yakuza 1 and 2 also take place in December of 2005 and 2006 so the city has a Christmas theme going on there are NPCs dressed as Santa and Christmas trees all over the place which just a fun aesthetic reminds of me of similar moments in other SEGA games. there's an authentic element to the setting of the first 2 Yakuza games on PS2 and that's because the time frame of the story and game's release date are the same so while Kamurochō is a fictional version of the real city of Kabukicho the developers were still able to use the world around as a reference and capture its spirit accurately everything here in Kamurochō was built to represent the world they were living through rather than the Kiwami version which is recreated using pre-existing assets looking back on this time frame 10 years on. The story in the first Yakuza game on PS2 Kiryu was supposed to have a bit of an apathetic mentality towards the situation he's in because he was just in prison for a decade for a crime, he didn't commit and the whole time he was worried about his friends and family eventually he gets out of prison and now he's a fish out of water because culture and technology has left him behind and he has a target on his back as everyone in the Tojo Clan wants dead, what makes this situation worse is the love of his life Yumi and his foster father are missing and his former best friend become an opportunistic weasel spitting on the sacrifice Kiryu made for him a decade earlier this didn't turn out the way he expected it and now Kiryu is getting kicked from all angles due to act of selflessness so it would make sense why Kiryu would try to keep a low profile and try to stay focused on his goal of uncovering this mystery and get annoyed with people trying to waste his time, this whole situation hurts him Kiryu deeply but you can see the happiness in his eyes when he reconnects with someone he thinks hasn't switched up on him like the rest. It's this personality trait and contrast that comes from saddling with this little girl (Haruka) that makes this game such a memorable premise Kiryu prefer not to get involved with other people's problems because he doesn't want to waste his limited time but because he doesn't want to risk losing more people, he's grown attached to but since Kiryu is a good guy overall he can't help but stand up for individuals when he see being abused by groups with more wealth and influence this heart and demeanor slowly melted through his experience in this game with Haruka as he learns to move on from his pain and work towards a better future because you can tell how much Kiryu has change Yakuza 3, because of all of this the game has this old school meets new school feel to it and that's reflected in its Soundtrack because you get a nostalgia feel from all the acoustics like the echoing drums and chants of the opening tracks Receive You as well as of the other uses of brass instruments then that's contrasted with extremely distorted electric guitars and vocal sample heavy battle themes and every fight ends with an explosive gong noise. The final aspect I wanted discuss about Yakuza 1 and 2 are the Side Missons because in Kamurochō it feels like there could be an adventure around any turn and that's helped by the fact that several completely optional side missions have fully choreographed and voiced cutscenes and that's because part of the vision of Yakuza was establishing this setting full of interesting characters and that's why many of the main chapters focused on vignettes with side characters where Kiryu would step in to helped them with their issue by presenting with the same level of production value it gave them more legitimacy like they were just as important to the experience as what was happening in the main story but in Yakuza Kiwami 1 & 2 Side Missons are extremely hit or miss in terms of quality sometimes the keep the original cutscene from original but remade it and sometimes the production value of cutscenes look far more cheaper and rigid animations and has worse lighting and then one Side Mission for Yakuza 1 just got cut from the original for some odd reason and it also doesn't help that the sound effect Kiwami 1 & 2 uses when all of its side missions really kills the mood for me too. To conclude I think that remakes for the gaming industry are a dreadful of how creatively bankrupt this industry is starting to become and goes to show that gamers are so fickle to play the original, it's such a shame.

@@maxtubb8560 Well of course if given the option to get something new one would jump towards the new. But a factor you don't seem to be considering in your statement here is that for a lot of people, TTYD is a huge nostalgia point for them. And sure, maybe TLoU is a nostalgia point for people too, but compare the remake of a 10ish year old game with a remake of a 20 year old game. TTYD could have been someone's favorite game when they were younger, and now that they're all grown up, they're being hit with nostalgia.

@@seroujghazarian6343 Uh, no the GameCube is stronger than the 3DS lmao. The GameCube can go up to either 480i or 480p, while the 3DS only goes up to 240p. The GameCube ran a ton of games at 60fps, while the 3DS mostly could only manage 30. Smash 4 alone showed all of the sacrifices that needed to be made in order for the game to run as well as it did and keep the character roster the same. The Ice Climbers were removed literally because the 3DS struggled to work them properly. There was no Events Mode or Special Orders, Trophy Rush didn't let you use customs, only 1 Target Blast Stage instead of 3, the Master Fortress wasn't in Classic Mode, no post credits scene of your character fighting in matches with the Brawl victory jingle, there were just over half the amount of trophies, only about 10% at best of the music from the Wii U was on it, with only a handful of exclusives, you can only pick between 2 song choices during regular matches, no coin battles or Special Smash, there aren't nearly as many items that can be used at once and they're either on or off, something that not even the N64 was restricted on, you can't increase the game speed in training mode, you can't watch videos like character reveal trailers, and the opening is literally just the character icons copy-pasted onto the beginning of Brawl's opening, but with no music and moves slower. Melee had at least half of these things, and could've included more if the game wasn't rushed. Luigi's Mansion only scraped by because of how much of a small game it is.

I like your take on HD remakes. For me, while I do like remakes, ESPECIALLY Wind Waker HD, which to me is a remake done fantastically, I do agree that the obsession on “modernizing” everything to the dismay of the original look and art of the game so we can have something look “HD 4K ray tracing deluxe 600fps” can be a bit tire some. The movie industry is ruined with nothing but reboots and remakes, I’d rather not have that happen to the gaming industry either. Tho I will admit, it’d be funny is Nintendo made a new system and remade LM to use it as a tech demo… again. Would be fitting.

Sorry dude, but this review needed more work. It spends way too much time pointing out (or just plain nitpicking) every tiny details or aspects of the remake such as the visuals, enemy layouts, etc, when you could of just summed them up a lot quicker. Take for example your negatives on the future E. Gadd cutscene, not only were they overstated since they really don't take away anything about the game, but you spend over 3 minutes going over them when the subject could of been addressed in less then a minute. The video overall felt bloated and drawn out, it would have been more effective to have side-by-side comparisons of both games rather then individually showing the footage. I do say, I was impressed by your knowledge of Luigi Mansion and all of it's little details. You clearly shown you know the game well, but you just dragged them out for way too long. This whole review could of been cut down to 20 minutes if paced better. It's a not a bad review, you just really need to work on your formatting and time manage. I wish you luck in the future.
