Great video as always. I love the shape of the pitch black going down the lane. Used to have a fast pitch but found that it was super clean and didn’t come off the pattern as well as the pitch black. Also I think the reason why people hate urethane, or at least the people I’ve encountered at my local house, is because they usually start/stand in the same spot and move left at the same time and have a “routine”. Urethane breaks up their routine and makes them adjust in ways they aren’t comfortable with or aren’t used to

Went against a team that only threw hammer urethane balls old and new. My only adjustment through 2 full games was move half a step back every 2 frames to kick out the 10 pin. Game 3 was when i started moving left with the same amount of distance back. I use a 3000 grit Phaze 4 as my benchmark ball as a 2 hander. It helped that they were throwing urethane in a good grouping so I was able to play their carry down while each of them were struggling with dealing with each others' carry down. Shot a 736 series that night and missed 3 10 pins cuz wasn't focused.

If you have 8-10 bowlers on a pair, one person throwing urethane is not doing enough damage to affect anyone. The other 7-9 bowlers throwing resin are changing the lanes much more. It's in people's heads. There are two ways to generally attack a house shot throwing urethane. One, play the oil line straight. Two, swing it to the outside/gutter like you would on a short pattern. For the former, you use that line as hold as a reactive player. For the latter, the goal is to get the urethane to the friction early enough to create the proper shape. It's going to be earlier than any reactive breakpoint almost always. So it shouldn't affect anyone throwing resin. People get in their heads and/or don't pay attention. Most of the time, you can actually take advantage of those throwing urethane - especially on a house shot.

All cover stocks are a polymer base, but reactive resin adds several additional chemicals that’s make the polymer chains longer to creates air pockets or peaks and valley for more traction. ~I’m convinced that straight urethane makes the pattern longer just like reactive resin and is no different. Some balls with surface will shorten the length of the pattern like the Gem, while other balls will push oil right, like a snowboarder pushing snow down the mountain or off to the right creating the same effect that people think urethane is to blame for. I’m not sure if all urethane is the same except for durrmoeter or hardness rating such as 73, perhaps color pigment is the final difference. For those that don’t have urethane and decides to buy one, a word of warning is that it’s straight polymer and is difficult for most to get it to change direction. That’s where the UC3 comes in as an entry level urethane because it’s a hybrid with part reactive polymer. I’ve gone down and examined the pattern after a set to see the results and how much carry down was created, and found no difference. I’ve seen up to 8 feet just with reactive resin balls.

Finally said screw it and bought a pb for the first time never through urethane before and ripped off a 730 series with one of the games almost becoming my first 300. The house we bowl at has so much hook on the back of the lanes that being a two hander with reactive makes the house shot feel like a sport shot. Going to keep throwing the PB from now on at this house.

Totally cool video. Did not see much issue with either ball on house. My highest games have been shot with urethane on house. I have won tournaments on house with urethane. The carrydown a low flare urethane ball produces on a house shot is very small and easy to adjust around. By comparison, I bowl in a sport league and when all of us are throwing urethane on a high volume short pattern look out! Now that is carrydown! If the house shot bowlers who bitch about carrydown caused by one guy throwing urethane experienced what we see on Wolf when 'everyone' is throwing urethane, they would realize the house shot is totally fine even with urethane going up the lane.

@Swamprowdy2 жыл бұрын
Going up the lane like you are doing, I don't see any problem throwing resin looping the ball around yorur early breakpoint. The problem I have sometimes is a cranker throwing urethane out to like 5 board at the breakpoint, then pushing some oil up the lane in the track area. It gets tricky then with midlane control. Good vid. I have a Fast Pitch which I primarily use for 10 pins. Had to throw it this past weekend in the Assn. tournament up 5 board because the crappy lane machine did'nt strip the 50 ft challenge condition that the pro shops machine put out for the junior league. Pro shop uses Fire and Ice, the houses uses cheap junk. Nova and Phaze 2 went straight no matter where I threw them. Fast Pitch actually was impressive up 3-4-5 board. BTW, a lot of pissed off bowlers on the 4 pairs with the 50 ft "ghost" pattern; much controversy.

Urethane doesn’t typically bother me even though I don’t really see the point of it on a house shot, but that’s just me. What does get a little irritating is when the people that throw urethane spray it everywhere never hitting pocket and making the backends tight everywhere, not just the break point. But I know those will just be lower scoring nights. Everyone should be able to throw what they want. I definitely see the use for it on sport to try and break the lanes down in an advantageous way while controlling pocket

Hey what’s up everyone here is the truth about urethane balls in a nutshell, urethane does not absorb oil it transposes it down lane from its surface, this varies according to which urethane ball is used they all flare and roll differently, and we as bowlers have different types of rolls, so the amount of oil placed down lane will vary greatly and all of this is based on flare, repeated shots, and number one Rev rate…… if a stroker rolls a urethane ball up the lane he is more likely to give the lanes what Luis has replicated in this great video,,,,High Rev bowlers are a different animal altogether The lanes will become head banger burnt and drastic moves left become the only answer to get passed what’s going on or is it???? Move left into head oil but wait now your ball has skid but then never stops skidding its lazy or if you find a hook spot its jerky off the spot or drastically different from pair to pair. My personal opinion is this,, All bowling equipment does this to an extent, urethane does place more oil down lane than most of the reactive balls made today,,, so lane transitions can be easily navigated by moving left with feet and target,, allowing for a bowler to remain consistent with carry,,, but that’s why the sport is called bowling not striking,,, an individual must overcome the obstacles in order to become the better bowler of the day….So shut your damn traps and man up and figure it out…..
@LuisNapoles2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for this great comment but What I will say is that a low flaring reactive ball will cause more carry down than a high flaring urethane ball because of where the oil rings are. The reactive balls aren't absorbing oil into the cover as fats as we are throwing the ball
@christopherknuckles12 жыл бұрын
If your consistent with urethane it can produce hold. The problem is your 150 -170 average bowlers using urethane is spraying the lane with it and creating a puddling across multiple boards at the break point and that screws your more novice bowlers. When it's a team scoring event. Try telling your 130 to 170 avg. Bowlers to "adjust". The average bowlers don't understand whats going on with urethane and carry down. Your 200+ average people can probably figure it out. But if your league team is one 200+ and more 150 average bowlers they will have a major disadvantage because you can't teach experience and touch and speed control in three games. Especially to someone who doesn't know there is 39 boards across the lane.
@LuisNapoles2 жыл бұрын
These lower average bowlers you’re referring to will do more damage with reactive
@umbra92732 жыл бұрын
Most bowlers in league don't understand carry down anyway. At least in my league. Their answer is to keep the same line and switch balls. Never really works for them. Anyway, league is for fun and those bowlers you speak of are gaining some experience. Best to be patient with them and focus on your game. Remember they look at you in awe as a God of the lanes when compared to them. Been my experience anyway

I'm still anti (modern) urethane but my Fast Pitch will say otherwise. I see another lefty on the pair who's NOT on our team, it becomes the defensive/🖕 play to throw it and shoot 240 or better while they struggle. I just drilled an old school Brunswick Attack Zone urethane from 99 and it's my preferred type of urethane: split boards and shut the lane down. The only downside is I can't get more than 215 or so with it so Fast Pitch it is. Lol.

Not exactly, at least with straight bowlers throwing down the middle, I can play around them. The guy I'm talking about wants to be Belmo but he has very little skill, so his ball travels a different path every time he tosses it. So he's trashing the lane for anyone playing from the far right to the far left and he rarely gets a strike or makes his spares. And I'm not even sure urethane makes sense on a 44 oily house shot.

Most bowling balls push oil down Lane. If you get your ball and see a big ring of oil on it and throw it again without wiping it down chances are you still pushing oil down the lane. Like Pete Weber never wipes his ball off and it has oil on top of oil on it

I think my only complaint is when people spray urethane all over the lane at my league. I don't mind it overall I personally can't throw one do to my extreme low rev unless I throw mine straight up 2 board.
I'm a 71 year old lifetime league bowler that used to average 200. I now throw a Pitch Black because I know I can hit somewhere near the pocket. I do leave a lot of corner pins on pocket hits. My ball speed is currently only around 13mph. Is there a ball that would give me better carry at this age???
@LuisNapoles2 жыл бұрын
So the age doesn’t really matter it’s all about the ball speed. What I suggest is take a weaker bowling balls like a 900 Global Burner Solid and drilling with a short pin layout (your pro shop will know what that is) you’ll get a similar motion just a little more pop down lane

Need more brands to come out with balls like motiv did with the microcell on tanks. Gives more people urethane look without the issues urethane can cause on a shot. OR people should drill short pin solid balls. Much better for a shot and they roll great. I have seen enough times from where a guys chucking urethane all over the lane and then peoples balls about halfway through game 2 cant get a ball back to the headpin. Makes for a fun league night.

Great vid. If your looking for a real challenge, try a league where 90% are throwing plastic (assuming urethane and plastic produce the same nasty transition). After 10 minutes of practice, the lanes are already transitioning. If your ball is making a double move (wiggle), you are in hell.

A true example to how to ajust to carry down would be to make a video with fresh oil and make a video after league play on the same pair that way you can get an idea of what carry down really is. You can’t just base it off of 20 shots.

Exactly, and I am assuming you have a good relationship with the bowling alley to let you bowl afterwards on a pair that has had a league play session on it. I just think it would be good content to get the before on a the pair and the after. And I know I’m being naive thinking it will be the a true test because all the factors, and I know a house isn’t going to allow you bowl on a fresh pattern right before league play, but it would be a better judgement having many different shots breaking a lane down then just a few shot on a single line. BTW. I love your content!! Stay awesome!!

I have bowled for 30 years and even been a national coach. The urethane makes me think bowling is broken! I have trained so hard and then playing tournaments/championships where you come behind someone with urethane. Its like a war zone and the twohanded players will make havoc of the lanes. Its like luck or unlucky which people you come behind. I can repeat shots better than many, change release and just urethane makes me wanna run oposite direction to Bowling. Bowling will never be an Olympic sport like it is run now. Even the professionals use urethan as a crutch and its so boring to watch. Not interested in urethane! Bowling is on the decline…cause bowling isnt showing us who really is the best.

I couldn’t agree less with what you’re saying. The object of bowling is to throw strikes PERIOD and it someone thinks urethane is the way to do it then what’s the problem? You saying what you’re saying makes me believe you’re not as good as you’re saying and/or not as good a coach as you’re saying

@@LuisNapoles Well. I think ita boring to watch bowling. I am not impressed with pros playing Witherspoon urethane. People that dont know about bowling would never watch it. Its way to complicated for a viewer to really understand what its going on. It ia Just a tool to make the lanes more difficult for your oponents. Its a game where hig rev players also will see more shape with a urethane compared to like you with less revs. You will get harder to compete with this envoriment compared to before 2010 whem pitch black came out. I have a flobowling subscription andre live in europe. I dont know when things are one cause your evolve around USA. No times for different time zones around the world. You cant get to watch the player you want and get visual scoring tabels for top 10 players. Bowling is boring to watch when you watch a vil tournamemt without knowing much about anything. You Just randomly watch without knowikng Who is leading most of the time. Man bowling is so far behind and making the sport easier to watch would make more watch it. More sponsors and more buzz around it as a sport. You Just go run urethan 70% of the time and see how likely bowling will be an olympic sport. It Just isnt working!
@barkanellichasingdreams41422 жыл бұрын
@@LuisNapoles Well bowling is small. Nobody in Europe are living of bowling cause it is not an Olympic sport. If the sport was Olympic sport we would automatically have funding to be the best possible. There would be 10-15 professional players living in USA. The road to being an Olympic sport is making it easier to understand. Urethan is oppsite direction! Then if you have a tournament with 40 lanes you have to have 20 cameras and put in the Code to follow Belmo the whole squad. The score for who is leading will come up and you understand who is playing well. So maybe you change from Belmo to Tommy Jones. Understanding who does What is important when you have so much going on at the same time during qualifying. The abillity to give the viewer the whole picture without having to browse 3-5 different webside to look for it. Then the different times ones is showed in flobowling and so it is given so people from the whole world will understand. Am and pm isnt normal everywhere. Everything does not revolve around usa, but you always talk about the best in the world. No the best asian players are not there. The europeens mostly are not there. The sport isnt exactly What you think it is. My country have had players that could dominate im the PBA but it is exspensive without funding to do so. Make the sport more easy to understand, and also more open to What exactly is done with the oilprofiles. What the goal was and what a actually happend. The lanemen need to have a bigger role since they affect the game so much. Bowling is making it silent and so many players talk shit about things they are not happy about. 😅 Transparency 🥸 I dont know which day the next tournament is, when the finals is and what times it will play. Why does that have to be so difficult ? Information is king😎 Bowling dont want you to know when things are broadcasted Even with a flobowling subscription. Peace out!

I dont understand why anyone would use urethane on a house shot unless it was on a second shift where they didn't oil the lanes. After bowling I walk down the first lane and look at the end of the oil pattern. You can see where the oil carries down RIGHT INTO THE PIN DECK. SOMETIMES, WE SEE 10 PINS OR 7 PINS SLIDE OVER TO THE 5 PIN SPOT. THAT IS WHY PEOPLE HATE URETHANE AND PLASTIC ON HOUSE SHOTS.

I don't hate it but most house bowlers don't need to throw urethane. Their rev rate is typically low with high speed and urethane hinders them more than it helps. Where reactive balls will give them more angle and stored energy when it hits the pocket. It always makes me laugh when these people use urethane and they constantly complain about 9 counts. When the urethane ball is usually the cause of their 10, 8, 9, and 7 pin woe. The only bad thing about urethane is when people don't wipe the ball. If you clean the ball before each shot then it's all good. I typically use urethane if I'm getting too much hook on house. It could be late or game one but the weak ball helps me stay away from standing in the left gutter. Sometimes I'll still be standing with my right foot on 30 but it'll hit the pocket. So I can create alot of carry down through the dump 10 bowlers since I hook urethane more than usual. People do hate me doing this but idgaf lol

Urethane is not necessary on house shots. House shots already have built in hold and hook right. A pso can recommend a ball to combat house shots with a lot of friction but urethane should not be one of them. There are enough balls on the market with lower diffs that can get through the front part of the lane and use the built in hold left without overreacting.
