I always go with a pin down layout on stronger equipment 40x4 1/4 x70 I like to have control when throwing strong stuff with my revs being 450+. I like the idea of comparing it to the Helios! If you were to add one more to that, I would say UC3. I know with the cover being different it sounds weird, but trust me.

Fantastic ball. I was watching your feet in this video. I've seen you make several adjustments. Nice to see and learned something to stand to the left and play deep. Brunswick Prism has been my only real asym solid ball that I've had, and have actually liked it quite a bit. But I'm an SPI guy so I'd love to replace it at some point with a Reality, or now maybe the Gem. It's certainly gonna be the first ball I go to at the Storm demo this weekend at my local alley.

The gem look real nice, might have to pick one up. Was debating between trend 2 or this one. But the way it roll on the lane it look good. I’m a right hand bowler, but the way I bowl, I backhand. And I been trying to watch a lot of tips, but it harder when not every bowler backhand. It either left or right hand. The ball I use right now is the beast and track heat.

Just looking at the undrilled figures for RG and Diff's, when you said you were going to compare a pin up drilling to a pin down drilling, I guessed you'd like the pin down more because the Gem is such a strong ball -- I made the assumption you filmed on a house shot, was I correct? I know it's too strong for me to even consider buying it (but I'm bowling mostly on house shots.) Hopefully you will get good use out of the pin up on sport shots and serious tournament conditions!

My favorite asymmetric is the Hammer Black Widow 2.0 because it's so so versatile and as they say "Nothing hits like a Hammer!" Plus it's black. Not a fan of the swirled cover stocks. I guess I'm just too old to embrace the swirl!

Wow love the look of the gem. I actually got the motiv pride bowling ball and got it drilled pin down. And it kinda has the same reaction on the lane as the pin down gem does. I do have a couple practice videos on my page. If u have any tips on what you can see from my practice. Do let me know what I can maybe do better. Cause if I end up buying the gem ball. Would I need to drill it pin up ? So it wont be close to the same as my pride ball with pin down? Or just drill it the same? But I do love the video of showing the difference of pin up and pin down for the same ball.

Just got my gem drilled today and this ball hits the pins so f* hard. Almost like it makes the pins scream when they get hit. Haha. Thanks for the review of different drillings that is something I don’t understand so I just had my new balls drilled the same from the storm 2LS chart #3 for the Gem, Reality, Zen, and hy-road pearl. Do you think that is a good thing to have them drilled the same and let the different cores and coverstocks be the difference in reaction?

I think so yea its one less thing to have to think about. Besides the layout only does so much. Gotta remember that the core doesnt touch the lane the cover does, so cover and surface will be everything. I layout everything pretty much the same and adjust with surface

Hey man, I keep asking for ball reviews, 😅 what I should probably be asking instead is this. I used to bowl in leagues in my early teens. I didn't have any coaching, I'm 43 so KZbin wasn't a thing back then. What's a good ball for me to get back into bowling with. I'd like to end up with a good set of 3-4 balls eventually. My wife has never bowled before, I'm buying her a tropical storm. I'm 5'9", don't throw with a ton of speed, not a ton of rotation.. what's a really good all around ball for me to start with.

Teammate picking Gem up this week, med speed and rev, 190ish league avg. Playing on a slightly heavyish THS and current "heaviest" ball is Phaze 2 or Alert. Should he think about pin down? Definitely on the fence. Was considering picking up the Gem because of the early dig and pick up on oily fresh lanes. But after seeing some reviews, I'm noticing some have been experiencing lack of back end pop...which I kinda need. Lol. Do you experience any of that? If so, suggest any alternative balls?

I am curious to know what your angles for each ball happened to be? My current layout is 60X5X40 on a lot of my Asym balls. Will be getting the GEM shortly and based on this video, I may look into pin down. I have a phase 2 but I’m looking to add 2 balls to my bag for my first few tournaments with my dad. Reality and zen? Or the nova. Any suggestions could really use the help

I apparently don't know what a strong ball or lots of hook looks like 🤷♂️. I've yet to see this "hook monster" actually look like a hook monster. Maybe everyone is throwing it on something super long and oily so it looks weak.

So “HOOK” doesn’t mean left to right motion. Hook refers to how quickly the ball wants to get going. This ball is the strongest ball I’ve ever thrown because it gets going so quickly and what makes it special is that it doesn’t puke in the back like most other balls in that category

@@LuisNapoles The avg person watching this won't really grasp that, may be a good thing to bring up in video. Most folks will view hook as left to right. Love the videos though, keep up the good job

Ive had the gem a few weeks now. Not at all impressed. I have several balls that hook much more.

@@rickjohnson8527 okay because “hook” refers to front to back hook and I can’t imagine to many balls being stronger than a Gem. Left to right like you’re explaining there’s always gonna be stronger balls because of the nature of the cover on the Gem

@@LuisNapoles for me the columbia 300 authority by far out hooks this thing. Hook is hook. If I stand further left to hit the pocket, it hooks more.

@@rickjohnson8527 it’s okay to not understand what hook means. Hook means traction. How soon does it pick up traction. The C300 Authority is a shiny pearl ball that changes direction more than the Gem. Doesn’t hook more than the Gem. There’s a big difference. I’m just trying to help you understand is all
