I don’t think there’s too much that’s premeditated. I don’t think you have TIME to do that much thinking on the floor - even playing at Luka speed. And with the defence constantly trying to throw different things at you, you can’t be too premeditated. Same with the slow step. He can’t do that EVERY time. He’s just FEELING what will work in any situation and he’s good enough to have so many options can choose from and make the shot, regardless.

Offensive players today have a ton of talent. But let’s not confused gimmicky skills for talent. Uh, abuse the hand checking rule for easy calls? The whole point is the hand checking meant refs didn't make calls. I feel like that slow step/deceleration was an evolution to his game brought about by playing so many competitive games. Remember, he's only 16 when he played for Madrid. His physique is not yet fully developed and had to work his way against faster fully-developed grown men. He had to think of a way to drive to the basket with the mismatch on physicality. One more thing is that it It's true, you can't really recreate the actual defense on practice that's why he said he didn't practiced it. The deceleration really depends on the defense. If the defender didn't jump you could see Luka would plant both his feet and pass the ball instead of forcing the shot. Unlike the crossover which you kinda bait the defender, the deceleration is really more of a gamble.

The thing with 1980's hand checking it really only works in the paint for players that use their back- while dribbling backing up. Hand checking for 'strong' defenders works... because if they put their elbow on your back as the dribbler' is backing up ...he cannot back up that stronger defender... the elbow force on offensive players back alters what the offensive player has to do. When the offensive player is stronger than the defender with the hand checking or elbow on the back... the offensive player can still back up the defender. But yes hand checking did make it harder to score. Because offensive player had to be a really good dribbler' great handles... to deal with defense like that.

If the nba really wants defenders to have some power back, like jj said hand checking will just turn into more foul baiting (I can’t imagine embiid trying to bait even more fouls). But if they REALLY want a change in slowing down scoring, make the refs actually ref the game like they did in the 90s. Call the players carrying, call it a travel when they take 3 steps, etc. ref the game in a way so defenders have a chance to play. It’s impossible to do anything when the offensive player gets to play like a globetrotters and if you challenge them, TWEEET foul shots time.

It’s very clear to that the league back then didn’t have half as much talent and so many of the guys defending MJ are not even good athletes by todays standards.. but of course because we don’t have time machines the people who seriously believe todays players would be worse in the 90s and Jordan would average 40 to 50ppg if he played today, will always believe that. Reddick is just company man... He didnt bring up real issue which is complete disregard of ball handling rules. Luka constantly carries the ball, thats basis of his game, every bounce he pauses and defender has no clue is he gathering the ball or is continuing the dribble. Then he pivots around one leg but he is cornered he lifts it and goes other way. Then there is 3step traveling. He goes for the ordinary 2step but again when he sees he will get defended just adds another step and defender just flies by. This isnt just him it has slowly spread over the league and every major player exploits these lack of rule enforcment. The lifting of the pivot annoys me the most because it really makes defense look foolish when in realitt they cornered the guy and shut him down but they can just lift that leg and go other way.

@mevil25267 ай бұрын
@@outlander234 The move where you lift the pivot to shoot or pass, the thing you can't do is touch the ground again with the pivot.
@outlander2347 ай бұрын
@@mevil2526 I am not talking about that. I am talking when pivoting on the pivot foot you cannot just step in and jump of the other foot while lifting the pivot eswentially taking a step. When in pivoting mode the only thing you can do is jump with two legs simultanously. What people do now, for example toi are pivoting around right foot, they take single leg jump of the left leg. Thats illegal and complete game changer. Of thats what you were talking about also then you are wrong. Unless they chanhed the rules rwcently this was not allowed in the past. But I doubt they officially changed anything they probably just sent a memo to the refs to not stiffle these moves since it makes players seem more skillful then they are. I have seen these illegal moves slowly spread in the past 5 years or so and now almost everyone is (ab)using them.

Luka seems like he's becoming more comfortable with conversation in English now. Him being able to articulate and express himself better is a good thing for his career/legacy in the NBA. Great job as always to JJ and his team for putting something like this together. Maybe he'll hop on the PG podcast next 😬

JJ you gotta work on making your questions more concise and focused, my man. Your interviews are great, but there's way too much meandering and extra fluff when you pose your questions. You often touch on three or four different points before settling on one topical direction to pursue, which wastes time and puts the burden of sorting out your own thoughts on the guest/viewer. Love the podcast and happy for the million subs!

Was never trained on this. Is there appropriate times to be loud spoken. Indeed the scripture came to mind which says cry aloud, spare not when commanding a prophet to preach against sin. But perhaps soft-spoken as the general Strat is best.

@@killout18 It’s just a preference thing, not that serious lol I’m American, I’m accustomed to people being louder and more braggadocios when speaking. I find the more mild, thoughtful European disposition to be a welcome departure from that. To each their own, though.

Haven't watched the video yet just saw the title but the QUICK answer is he got off because DeAndre Hunter didn't play. He was out due to injury. It's no coincidence that 1) They call Dre the Warden because he Locks up 2) ATL Went on a Win streak the NEXT game when he was cleared to play. Well see them again in Dallas tho...

😂 Hey Homer 1) Hunter is decent but Warden is not a name he's known well by 2) Atlanta are 2-2 with him since the Dallas game and also won 2 without him. You're massively overestimating his impact on these wins

@silewis9396 Ehhh I'm not going to deny that I value Dre maybe more than others but His defensive performances against players like Luka can't be Denied. 2-2 lately but I was referring to the immediate streak after the Dallas game. Also Dre's impact can never be overestimated in my eyes. We're much better with him than without him. Also, whenever Dre Locks up, the Warden memes start flying. I'll let you know the next time it happens 😂👍🏽

I don't belive hand checking was explained fairly here. This adds so much more physicality and involves more than just hand placement. Guys can out muscle you on the perimeter and running into the paint would be painful. There would be less fouls called. Yeah you can go in the paint and draw fouls But it's soooo exhausting and takes a toll.
