the song is very simplistic to be honest. the lyrics are really just a repeat of the same verse for the most part. the score is beautiful, no doubt at all and that should certainly get some recognition. but it's really the vocals that make the song stand out in the film. they carry it very well despite how minimalistic the lyrics are. I don't expect this song nor this movie will win any awards, especially since nearly all the songs (save this particular one) were remakes of songs written in the 70s by an already award winning composer and lyricist XD

I really love how the animation of Scrooge singing takes on a lot of Luke's singing mannerisms. the thing I noticed when I first watched this movie through was how Scrooge's jaw quivers with the vibrato just like with live singers. it's a subtle touch but it really emphasizes the strain in the vocals of the character as they belt out their heart. You can tell the animators cut some corners with this animation, probably due to budget really (it's a bit stiff at times and plastic looking) but by cutting corners in some regards they were able to really reflect their skill in other ways and the facial expressions especially are something that stands out. Disney's characters have trouble really emphasizing the power behind the voice, they always animate their characters beautifully and fluidly, yes, and they sing very prettily, but they don't ever really express the actual muscle work behind pushing sound out through the body and face and vocal chords. Scrooge here is WORKING those face muscles (and that mouth and jaw especially) in this particular scene and it's NOTICABLE how close the animators were watching Luke in the booth. I really wanna applaud the animators here for that keen eye.

I New he could sing already from Beauty and the beast but man did he blow me away with this performance. The singing from his Scrooge is amazing and I cannot fault his performance at all. He beautifully nails the Cantankerous nature of Scrooge in the beginning and as the story goes on you see him slowly start to break through that icy cold heart, to see that Scrooge is in fact and can be compassionate, kind, caring and loving. He allowed dismay to cloud his judgment and darken his heart but with the help of the ghosts he is redeemed seeing the importance of kindness and his ability to save tiny Tim. I loved this film he honestly deserves an Oscar nomination at least for his amazing performance. Xx
