It's a shame a lot of people don't appreciate this type of musicianship. It takes an unbelievable amount of skill to play drums for songs like these.
@Anaximander29A3 жыл бұрын
I want to see them doing that live together without a single flam like in this video. This stuff is quantized to the moon and back. I mean both of them can play the song well, but there is no way that if you take two drummers and let them play the same stuff in unison like that, there won't be a single flam. This is heavily edited.
@RamonScott7772 жыл бұрын
@@Anaximander29A obviously cause they aint robots, would you like to be hearing the flam on youtube? if u want to see a snippet of them playing check luke holland's tiktok.
@JJStylies2 жыл бұрын
@@Anaximander29A there are flams in this recording, it's not perfect, and that's what makes it absolutely insane. the trick is that luke and sam are hard panned right and left so they don't clash so harshly when there is a slight imperfection, but you can hear it, especially in the kicks. For a specific example listen to the snare lick in the opening, you can hear they're maybe a couple milliseconds off of each other. DCI drumlines do exactly this kind of thing though - and basslines go a step further splitting fast phrases between people cleanly.

Ever heard of a metronome? Every band uses it live, and in studio. *the more you know*
@iangillies7115 жыл бұрын
The use of a metronome does not negate the skill level of the drummer. A met can be clicking as loud as can be, but it still takes a lot to stay in time with it. Adrenaline is pumping, your heart is beating really fast, and your instinct (at least mine is) to rush like crazy until you’ve reached your physical limit. If you were being sarcastic and I misread that I apologize, but metronomes aren’t God. You still gotta stay in time with them. Playing as clean as they do on a song like this one is incredibly difficult, especially considering they’re on a full kit and not just like a snare drum or a set of quads or something
@HorizonEyes3 жыл бұрын
This is heavily edited & sampled. 100%. I love Veil & Sam… probably more than any other band or drummer & they are amazing drummers, but still. There is no chance that this sounded as clean as the mix.

Also noting the difference in snare hand technique. Luke is mostly using his wrist to chop it out (which is perfectly fine, just less efficient) and Sam is using just his middle and ring finger. He uses them as kind of a springboard to bounce the stick much more effectively
@BrianGivensYtube5 жыл бұрын
It's that pinch point with the finger technique. index and thumb hold it, middle and ring provide the movement.

Luke Holland is of course phenomenal but you have to realize that he is also mostly playing Sam's parts here, really, and Sam deserves a ton of praise for creating a compelling percussion track for this song, and really for the whole Matriarch album.
