I genuinely dislike him and have for years. How people make excuses for him getting that big injury 9 years ago baffles me. He’s downed tools under every manager since he’s been here especially Jose and Rangnick. Always put country over club. And I honestly think our fan base massively overrates him when he has a decent period. I remember 18/19 season he got club poty because the fans had sympathy that he stayed fit for a full season when Pogba was clearly player of the season. Finally when people say he’s one of the best left backs in the world, I think that says more about the lack of quality left backs than his ability. Never had elite attacking output and don’t think he’s defensively that good either. He’s just got a nice touch when receiving the ball.

1) as a LB; his time is limited. I think it is the length of his contract. And one of the thing I really wanted was a LB to begin to replace him; e.g. getting Netz and seeing Amas in the future. 2) he is so far ahead as a full back for us now; it looks terrible when we look at our signings through the ages. Like now. Dalot is only at backup level. Mazraoui is far off. And Malacia is a total joke in ability. 3) For mid term, we should look to move him to CB. Tha might get a year more. But eth disagrees with that. 4) in long term, he will go and he knows too. Already has a uefa c license with Maguire and Jones. In 5 years, we got to transition away from Bruno, Shaw, Mazraoui, Dalot, and Maguire. And it is going to be really the barometer.

Don't think you can blame a player for wanting to represent his country, especially at a major tournament. Rashford did the same for Euro 2020, delaying his shoulder surgery until after the tournament, spending three months of the 21/22 season out recovering from it.

I don’t think it’s as cut and dry as people say with regard to the fitness. It’s such a huge issue as no matter how good the player is, what good are they if they’re not available. For me the LB position has been a long term problem. I have mentioned it before, asking if the answer was Dalot placed there, putting a strain on the RB position, and received a comment about academy players fitting into the team. Clearly this is not a solution. Ste talks about backup choice for positions but that is based on fitness/availability as Ste points out. For me Luke Shaw just can not be relied upon to be fit for a season. It's time to move him on. He'd do better in the Budesleague where he'd have less physical pressure than in the Premier. God knows what Malacia is up to and he was suppose to be the back up. MU need a new LB, possibly two.

When he’s fit he’s exceptional, but the problem there (as with any player) is we have to use “when he’s fit” before the praise. Personally I think Alvaro would have been a better option, but United screwed themselves over there. His contract is up in the summer I believe, I HOPE Ineos doesnt do the daft " protecting the value" excuse by giving him a new contract (I dont think they will). Shaw has always promised to be better than he actually ever was (certainly in consistancy terms) - Im happy for Amass to be given time this season to see if he can claim the spot, but either way we need at least one left back next summer (Im sure Malacia will be sold, either in Jan or July)

Rather have a seven out of 10 available every week than a eight or nine for 20 games a season. Rashford has suffered because of Shaw's absence as partnerships are formed all over the pitch. Neville and Beckham for example.

Been saying we need a new lb for years . He isn’t a premier league footballer (not since his injury) Unfortunate but we’ve wasted that position and killed Marcus at times with the inconsistency of full back behind him New LB was a priority imo

I got the impression Mourino thought Shaw was a bit thick. That he had difficulty knowing when to join the attack and when to sit in. Always rated Shaw as a player but his injury record is bad and will probably get worse with age. Let his contract run down as I don’t think anyone would pay for anyone with such poor availability.

🤔It's well overdue the worrisome thing is his understudy Malacia seems to be threading down the same line. But even so I'd replace Malacia before replacing Shaw because in terms of quality Shaw is head & shoulders above the rest. Come next summer sign a new left back good enough to start sell Malacia if possible Luke too.

As you say, availability and reliability are the two most important stats / traits to have. If you can't pick them, talent, ability, tackling etc doesn't matter. Unfortunately he's another player we have kept for too long and i expect him to be moved on next season under Ineos.

What dilemma. I think its a no brainer here. We need a permanent 1st choice LB next summer. If u cant stay fit, then u should be down the pecking order. I mean Shaw as a player when fit is tremendous but we cant rely on him when he’s always out injured.

He's showed up for us at some important times for the club and respect for his contributions but we would be better served moving him on as there's enough quality there where he may thrive in a less intense league, on that basis we'd probably get a good fee for him as he's not deadwood he just can't keep up with the physical requirements of the premier league.

It was the England thing that did it for me - Before that I backed him and thought he was a brillaint player, helps us massively in both defence and attack. But going to England and then not returning fit and ready for the season is the nail in the coffin, he should be sold at the nearest opportunity.

I’ve never ever liked Shaw. Everyone says he’s so great going forward, he’s got 4 goals 32 assists in 317 appearances. Dalot has 7 goals and 12 assists in 189 appearances. He was pants defending as well as you said always out of position. I will never in my life forget that 7-0 match against the scousers, he was at fault for almost all of the goals. Salah is the all time leading goal scorer in matches between United and Liverpool, Luke Shaw has been at United the entire time Salah has been at Liverpool, not a coincidence. I also will never forget that ridiculous hand ball with the last kick of the match for a pen he gave away, followed by him blaming the loss on the forwards not scoring in the post match interview. He should’ve been moved on and properly replaced seasons ago.

No player should be at a club like Manchester United for a decade unless you're an absolute unicorn like Rooney. It shows a lack of ambition, and a lack of consistent management/transfer strategy that we're even talking about Shaw still. Shaw (on his day) is a very good player, but we have never seen the consistent run that would elevate him into the elite bracket. The clubs inability to stick or twist with Shaw has just added to the ongoing defensive frailties that have haunted the back line for several seasons. Defences win titles, and until Shaw is consigned to the history books... 21 isn't coming anytime soon.

And the left foot is crucial in Ten Hags system. Dalot has done ok but let him be that right back and let Nous cover for either side.

I feel for him because I know what it's like to suffer through long term and recurring injuries, but you can't afford to keep players around who aren't pulling their weight, regardless of the reason. I think INEOS would like to have brought a left back in this summer but I'm guessing Shaw would have to leave and who's going to take him? He has another 3 years left on his contract. The time to sell him was 2 years ago before he signed a new deal. He probably should have gone under Jose to be honest, but that's just another example of the leadership under the Glazers putting "assets" over sporting decisions. I notice you didn't even mention Malacia in the video. Honestly feels like his career could be over before it's even started. We might need two left backs next summer, and need to shift the pair of them however we can.

We prob needs to move on from Shaw , he doesn't look after himself , also seem like any excuse to be honest . He could be gd backup wouldn't need to play to often and could cover LCB .As replacement i like Aït-Nouri , Barco , Kerkez all three had a bit of prem experience, I also really like Hato, plus he fit as he Ajax and dutch . I like him more as LCB , he would be perfect Yoro partner for next 10 years. Oh cant forget Patrick Dorgu that ste did a scout on . He look gd . Really I just want constancy in our team and player in the actual position.

shaw's mentality is his biggest limitation. his wages aren't astronomical and he is useful when available. i'd be ok selling or keeping as amass develops

I think if we can get him to reduce his wages, we should keep him, because there aren't many LBs in world football who are better than him when he's fit. But as you said, his availability is a massive downside.

We have a new director coming in for sport and fitness. He will get to the bottom of Luke's problem and he will either make him reliable or tell the board to move him on. Luke, on his day, is one of the shining lights in the team, we just are in the dark too often. It may be coincidence and we have to give him the benefit of doubt but Luke performs at his best and is more available when it looks like he has another serious left back at the club. (A fit one)
