Luke Skywalker(BOBF) vs Cybernetic Maul(Legends)

Damn, for some reason I thought that the returned Darth Maul could be a test for Luke's new Jedi order. Defeating him and his new Sith army would prove that the new Jedi are not old and can be relied on. Damn, he looks even scarier here and that's cool. Why did they kill Darth Maul and Luke ?
